Sorry, my friend, but this vintage cartoon was made _to be_ creepy and eerie. The distorted backgrounds are in imitation of German expressionism (The Cabinet of Dr Caligari, Nosferatu et al), which is a clear hint that the creators knew perfectly well what they were doing. Never underestimate artists from the past, they were often much clever and original than most YT creators.
These dolls are scary to us but often back in the day when they were popular as toys of that eras children these kids probably thought our concept of creepy was cute. This is also true with some children's literature sometimes even trying to make an adult story more decent for younger ears made reading it today seem much much worse then the origional story. Then those early 20th centuary Easter bunny costumes!

This is exactly what I was thinking! The visuals reminded me a lot of Weimar era expressionism, particularly the sets.
The skills that go behind stop motion film will always amaze me. Creepy or no, I love stop motion
Me too!

yeah I agree different times and different cultures. But even so its still creepy
It's extremely pretentious for us to judge art that was made almost 100 years ago, with the hyper sensitivity of today's society.
