My excuse for the regress of Tony from 1 too 2 is that the iron man suit and “brand” has reinflated his ego back to what it was at the start of iron man 1. Iron man 1 was knocking down Tony stark. Iron man 2 is knocking down iron man.
yeah, but the film itself isn't about regress. it's about Tony learning to be selfless and saving the world. exactly the same as the first film. exactly the same as Avengers. exactly the same as Avengers: Infinity War. Tony Stark may be the most stale character in the whole of mcu
@@DorkN313the original version was going to be an adaptation of Demon in a Bottle so it was going to be about regression, but it was changed, we still see some elements of that idea in the final film though.
@DorkN313, how is personhood stale. His ego is a massive detriment to the person Tony wants to be. His own hubris and technical brilliance puts him in the position where he is actively working against his own goals by believing he knows the best course of action. His greatest enemy had always been himself, and the moments he gets out of his head and, by extension, his own way does he thrive. But the ego doesn't go away because it's an inherent trait, therefore an ever-present struggle. Thor grappled with being worthy across the franchise, Steve with morality in an ever changing world, Natasha and Bruce struggling with identity and who they are, and Clint being the only stable one among them, being a family man who knows his worth. A man who can, at the end of the day, hang up his bow and go back to his normal life till he receives another call to action. For most people their problems would take a lifetime to work through, and in a multi film franchise, that's exactly what they did, because they could afford to do so.
11:07 the reason that a ton of the villains are big robots is because the VFX crew who did them at first was the same crew who did the transformers movies so that’s what they were good at and got hired for. They’re the reason we even got an iron man movie in the first place because before transformers that level of mechanical VFX was considered impossible
@@henryisdumb yep. If you watch the first suit up scene from iron man 1 and compare it to the first Optimus transformation scene in transformers 1 you’ll see that it’s basically the same thing.
I feel like the post endgame movies have this aura of "what's the point?" The story could've ended after endgame, and it hasn't really justified it's existence
Post endgame movies have the aura of "the plot is too complex so it has a billion holes" Like seriously, it's silly how many stupid things happens in these movies. It feels like the writers went "I hope no one will ask a question about that".
It’s just too much. Looking back on the infinity saga not too many of them were straight set ups for infinity war but just had little teases and we could clearly see an endgame (pun intended). But now it feels like every project is setting up some next threat. We’ve got mutants coming, kang, doom, whatever’s going on with scarlet witch, kingpin becoming mayor, young avengers, eternals, that Shang chi post credit scene. It’s impossible to keep up with it all.
I think the post Endgame Spider-Man movies are the exception. With Far From Home, the point is to see the impact losing Tony Stark had on Peter, and with No Way Home it's about dealing with the cliffhanger of Far From Home. The movies don't set out to lay the foundation of the next climax in the MCU, they set out to tell stories about Spider-Man, that's why they work.

For me the problem with the post end game movies is that they almost immediately wanted to build up the next big "thing" (the multiverse) which makes the films seem pointless on their own because they're not trying to be good movies on their own. Most of the early marvel movies (the good ones at least) were great by their own merits, not BECAUSE they where building towards infinity war, but now it feels like they expect us to like the movies just because they are part of something bigger no matter the quality of their own stories.
Its so interesting how so many criticism I hear for these movies are contradictory lol. On one side there's people complaining that the movies don't feel like they're building up to anything, and on the other there's people saying that they only feel like build up.
@@Idkwgo1 I mean people can have different experiences and view movies differently. And the movies being just build up but what they are building up to feels like it won't be very good aren't mutually exclusive.
@@Idkwgo1Yeah I agree that it’s not contradictory. The big hand is a pretty good example, it feels like it’s chucked in because they think ‘nobody will care about this unless we buildup to something bigger’ but there’s also no actual plan or thought put into it. They want the financial reward of a big crossover film without the actual effort of building up something interesting.
Fun fact: It's impossible to hitch hike from Brazil to America by road, due to the Darién Gap. Which is a coast to coast jungle with no road through it.
Well, travel vloggers did it. It was quite a horrendous journey, but they made it eventually. Those vlogs have more substance than the entire marvel cinematic universe, so check them out!
Man I was thinking the same thing. He presents every occurrence like it's a Tarantino-esque, fullscreen shot of an actress's feet. Then he shows it and it's the most mundane wide shot of Pepper walking around her house
He's British. His people used to not only have ankles be covered, but have floor length tablecloths in their own homes to hide the way table legs curved. The generational fear of seeing the human body has manifested in this case as, "walking around in your own house?! without shoes on?!"
I rank The Incredible Hulk a lot higher, because even if the movie's a bit lackluster, it still gave more character to Bruce Banner/The Hulk than the entire MCU afterwards combined...
I enjoyed the movie well enough, and seemed most in line with what the hulk could have been, personally, the character just felt dull for me after the avengers, yeah it was cool and all seeing him "smash" stuff, but people often forget that it's only half of what is meant to be bruce banner/the hulk, and it doesn't help at all to see the somehow unnoticeable at the time but very obvious now decision that they made the hulk into a joke character, his power now sucks, his character now sucks, there is hardly anything interesting coming out of the hulk now, and I miss the incredible hulk's hulk because of it. if you don't believe me, then just watch the beginning of infinity war and watch thanos effortlessly beat hulk's ass in a fight. and that's far from the only example.
@@CursedAnqxl Yeah, fully agreed. I feel like they interpreted the poor box office sales of The Incredible Hulk as "this character is a failure, let's relegate him to background set dressing now so we make more money".
Watching Wakanda Forever made Riri feel outrageously out of place, because the whole movie genuinely felt like the characters were grieving T’challa, as the actors were grieving Chadwick Boseman, and then Riri shows up and seems… tone deaf, almost.
_then Riri shows up and seems… tone deaf, almost._ Cosign loved most of WF except some cludgy CG and RiRi who basically takes you out of the film - as Kevin Feige mandates Disney Plus spinoffs. sigh. Signs of fails to come.
@@Strangerz64 I like Riri. I think she’ll be a great addition to the MCU. However, I don’t think Wakanda Forever was the right film in which to add her. She was bright and bubbly, excited about joining the MCU, in a film that needed to be somber and mournful. That’s nothing against the actress, I understand that she didn’t know Chadwick Boseman, she didn’t have that connection to him that the rest of the cast did. I think she had an excellent performance for a standard MCU movie, but WF was meant to also be a memoriam, and she took us out of that space. I do look forward to seeing what they do with her character outside of Wakanda Forever, and I hope it’s handled well, but I think it would have been nicer to have her introduced in FATWS or something.
I also think it was a bad move to replace Iron Man that soon after his sacrifice. We spent ten years with Tony going from a box of scraps, to a universe saving nano-tech weapon. Iron Man the suit became part of Tony's growth as a person, leading to his sacrifice. It just felt cheap to see someone become "Iron Man" in her dorm room, as a science project. I think the character herself could be interesting, but it really wasn't the right movie to introduce her.
@@izzytodd4242 I think it couldv'e been handled well, in a kinda "this is what he was fighting for. Even if she has no connection to him, they still fight fir the same thing/his legacy is the future"

@@blazedonakayak5053civil war is a very good movie it's just that ppl hate on it for the reason that it wasn't comic accurate. It was more of an avengers 3.
Okay, so the reason the giant god sticking out of the ocean hasn't been addressed yet... is because Eternals was planned for Phase 5, but got put in the slot that was saved for Guardians Of The Galaxy 3, which was actually meant for the slot Eternals took up. James Gunn got fired by Disney back in 2018/2019ish for some really old tweets, and was pushed back. The turnaround for the god sticking out of the ocean was meant to be a lot quicker.
it is wild how many outside influences have shifted the entirity of the last few phases, i say outside influence when disney fired him but you know what i mean
@josephking8186 I'm gonna be so mad if we never get Black Knight. Easily one of my favorite superheros. I just have my fingers crossed that he'll show up in Blade (if it ever gets released)
FINALLY SOMEONE PUTS RESPECT ON MY BOY ANT MAN. That first movie is amazing, definitely my favourite MCU movie. I love the character of Ant Man. Thank you for it the appreciation it deserves.
This is the one opinion I really don't agree with. I didn't care much for antman or its sequel. They seemed like mediocre movies with mediocre characters.
@@TheGamerITA1 I kind of agree with you. The characters are mediocre and so is the plot, but the visual gags and actors make up for it imo making it a pretty decent comedy
I’m not gonna lie, if by some miracle we actually get an end to the MCU, if the final movie is one last Deadpool, that will effectively be one of the funniest jokes ever. Just imagine it. After _everything_ since Endgame, when you finally decide to call it quits and close the curtain, the honor falls on the worst person possible, and worst I mean the best. Because he will rip those years of efforts to shreds and reduce it to 20 second joke. And because it’s Deadpool… of course it somehow works.
Ultimately, the reason there were no female- or minority-led MCU films prior to Civil War is Ike Perlmutter (then CEO at Marvel and owner of ToyBiz) only got involved in Marvel Comics to sell toys, and according to their data, "female and black characters don't sell toys". He was also in control of the TV division completely, which is why it deviated so far from canon, as he was trying to leverage it to force the MCU to do what he wanted (showcase the Inhumans, for one, in order to undermine the X-Men; longer story). Him trying to keep them from bringing Tony Stark in for Civil War because RDJ was too expensive is why Disney stepped in and removed him from control of Marvel Studios, after an ultimatum from Feige. Sorry. Old comic nerd who hates Perlmutter for older reasons.
I hate how some of the weird grifters are now popping up Perlmutter as some kind of hero who hates "woke Disney" and their corporate bureaucracy. He was everything he now claims to hate and it's good that he's gone
It's funny because He-Man's sister She-Ra was specifically created because the makers realized that little girls liked the heroic stories with swords too.
I hadn't noticed since I only watched it the once, but Loki's expression when Thanos catches him is just perfect. It's just complete acceptance, but also distinctly an energy of "I may die, but at least I'm going out my way." Even if in such a small way, he did force Thanos's hand, managing to keep his pride by sacrificing himself instead of letting himself simply be defeated.
I don't disagree with anything so far but i did just laugh out loud when you complained about Christopher Eccleston's villain not speaking English until 40min into Dark World after literally complaining about aliens wanting to take over the earth and somehow all being able to speak English, just a few minutes earlier 😂
I once had someone try telling me that Taskmaster was the villain of Black Widow and that the man who was mind controlling her every move was actually the good guy because “he created all those badass women”. That’s right; he thinks the human trafficking murderer who refuses women to control their own bodies in any way is the good guy. Coming as what should be a surprise to no one, a couple years later, I heard that this same guy also doesn’t understand the word no. What a shocker, he thinks that the guy who mind controls women is a good guy and also doesn’t understand the concept of consent? Who would have guessed it!
They actually were originally going to in iron man 2 originally, but some higher up told them to change or something. This is secondhand information I heard like at least a few months ago though so take that with a grain of salt
I really wish more people threw content like Daredevil and Agents of SHIELD into the conversation. Those shows were not that long ago and are significantly better than most marvel projects.
@@mr.iiconic I dont think there is any marvel disney + series with finales as good as agents of shield. Or character arcs and evolution that are as good. I especially think the villains in agents of shield are quite fantastic especially the first 5 seasons. Id also say something similar about days of future past being the best ensemble marvel film. I think marvel studios doesnt have as good villains or arcs. I think the Russos work was great. I definitely have a lot of love for some of their films. I think Marvel tv specifically did a lot of things better. mainly just compelling writing. I think the same things can be said for Daredevil it just didnt get to continue naturally.
@@TheTurbanator123 the Disney plus series suck but I would put quite a few films over AOS. I also strongly disagree that ANY X-Men film other than First Class could even be considered an ensemble, let alone a good ensemble. Those movies are wolverine and friends, each with room for like three other characters who get a portion of his spotlight, in that films case Charles, Erik and Mystique. First Class is an amazing ensemble, DOFP is a glorified wolverine film just like every X-Men movie with Logan
@@TheTurbanator123 this might just be me being a comics geek, because in the comics the X-Men based are a true ensemble where everyone spends most of their time as a supporting character and 10% of it as a main character when it's their turn to be the pov character of a particular storyline. The movies completely botched this and took a shit on everyone who wasn't Wolverine, Charles or Magneto (and later Raven, Charles and Magneto for the Apocalypse). This is why I LOVE first class, it's the only true X-MEN movie that is about X-MEN the team and not two character and their sidekicks.
@mr.iiconic yeah I mean you bringing up first class isn't a bad thing to me. It's definitely better than a lot of marvel studios films. I do think days of future past is an ensemble. Pretty crazy concept, I know. I mean the cast speaks for itself. Plenty of characters havea great moment. My brain Doesn't immediately go to wolverine with that film. I think of Charles Arc and the concepts and themes of hope. I think of Evan Peter's. I think of both magnetos. I think of the rogue cut even. I love days of future past and you pointing out that Logan gets a focus again doesn't change I like that film more than most avengers films other than civil war and infinity war. Which I would say are on par. I also love X2 and I don't think there's a film quite like it since. I do think agents of shield did multiple ideas far better. It did secret invasion better. It did evil robots better. It's capable of having comedic episodes. And it's capable of serious dramatic episodes that are dark. I think villains like John garret and Aida and Ward/Hive and The Doctor seriously run laps around marvel studios. Agents of shield even did house of M really well. And it set clear rules for the darkhold that are much better defined than what marvel studios presented. People didn't understand how the darkhold works in wandavision and multiverse of madness. They also explained time travel and multiverse ahead of the films. They did Jeffery mace before marvel studios did us agent. The other thing it does better is female characters. Agent may daisy johnson jemma Simmons mockingbird. Same with other marvel tv. Jessica jones Colleen wing Karen Paige misty knight Claire temple Overall I would say Marv studios needs to step its game up in terms of writing. I wouldn't say this other stuff is perfect btw. Defenders is flawed. The other netflix shows are quite cheap other than daredevil. Agents of shield has some slumps. But gun to my head I would take the writing of marvel tv and the works of mattew Vaughn over some of the superficial mediocre writing of marvel studios And the fact the Russos and marvel studios right now believes Robert downy Jr Dr doom is what we want and not just a reallt well thought out story is so cringe and desperate. And I mean come on almost every villain in marvel tv is far superior. Kingpin killgrave GrantWard Aida bullseye Hive Also if we are bringing up comics I think TV does comics better. For DC and Marvel.
OMG, if you need this video, you are YOUNG. The original MCU had no hype, minimal publicity, was just a rumour that it was happening after that surprisingly awesome Ironman movie that nobody even knew about. The original MCU was a life-era defining experience that grew with us as we got older from our mid-20's to late 30's
The fact that no MCU movie until the avengers made even close to $1b is a fact lost to people who were too young to observe the franchise’s origins. People forget that the first 5 MCU movies failed to surpass the box office of “Hancock”.
The mcu has always been a bit hit or miss with the quality of each film. And I do agree that our expectations were risen way too high after endgame, but I also think the amount of stuff to watch has also soured the experience as well. The tv shows should have never been part of the main story. No one wants to do homework for their movies.
One of the best things to come out of this most recent phase for me was Loki season 2, it’s honestly shocking that something of that quality was a Disney+ show.
@@henryisdumbjust because the fact Loki S2 is soo good, i had hope he will suddenly appeared in the end of Deadpool & Wolverine to give their "story" back after they got disintegrated by the machine-thingy-i-forgot-the-name-of.
1:45 FUN FACT! RDJ credits Burger King with him getting sober. He was a real bad alcoholic back in the day and one day he was eating a BK burger, hated it and said “damn it I need to make a change” and the rest is history
Foot fetish can be weird but that doesn’t make feet weird that’s so strange to me. If someone had an elbow or clavicle fetish we wouldn’t demonize a movie for showing elbows or clavicles we’d just go on with our day bc we don’t have the fetish
You just described sexualization perfectly. It’s just a body part with purposes other than sexual, but unfortunately since they’re associated with that it’s seen as inappropriate. A body is never inherently sexual, it’s just so annoying that we’ve made up this stigma around just existing in a body. Probably a bit too serious of a topic for a comment under a comment on a marvel video lmao don’t mind me I’m just writing into the void
I just had this conversation with my dad a few days ago about this (or tried, at least). Feet themselves aren't weird, I don't see someone barefoot in real life and go "FOOT FETISH", but a in a movie everything is a choice on what to show, and if the shot is the bottoms of Margot Robbie's feet all covered in dirt in the middle of the screen, that's a foot fetish scene, or if the character is barefoot where there is no need and everyone else is wearing shoes, it's a different thing from just seeing a foot (if your comment is about the hulk ignore what I just said, I just needed to get that out of my system)
hahahah thankyou, out of everything i said this is the thing people are getting the most annoyed about, so i'm glad someone else gets what i meant especially when the director has a history of it, like whedon's been doing it since buffy, and like tarantino who's addicted to being weird with them
I cant really agree with the statement about lokis sceptre. It was obviously introduced as menacing when Loki showed up mind controlled a bunch of guys with it, killed another 10 and then shot a chopper out of the sky with it. That was the introduction, and that happened like an hour before the "explanation" of the staff as you put it happens int he movie. So I dont really get what your point was there. Great video overall tho. Very enjoyable to watch and I think you hit the nail on the head for most of the movies
i understand that but the main thing that bugs me about it is that it's always a bunch of non-descript characters that we've just met and we're supposed to be instantly invested in them, getting whooped by a vaguely magical mcguffin that we only know what it is from an exposition dump an hour later, like in comparison to say when thanos whoops everyone in infinity war you instantly know the stakes because we've had years of build up seeing the heroes win, opposed to these random shield donnies additionally after watching loki lose only a few hours before in the first thor film, he's already coming into the film with lower expectations because, we've already seen him lose
I dont know, even as just a "mind control stick" it still provides plenty of stakes and menace. Especially on a first watch, where you dont know that it wont affect ironman during the loki talk. Like, all our heros, save thor are just guys. Theres no reason it wouldnt work on em. r@henryisdumb
@@henryisdumb I think the problem with random unexplained power levels is that you can't win no matter what you do, because if the heroes are knocked about only to come together and win in the end, it becomes pretty tiresome and predictable pretty quickly. It's less "oh this is a serious threat" if you do it more than once, and more "Oh this is part of the tempo where they lose early so they can win later". The issue is really just that the writing usually fails to set up anything beyond 'beat the bad guy' within the film's dramatic structure. If Loki was doing trickster God things in a slightly more clever way, he could have been the first Thanos and manipulated the villains and heroes of the films over a protracted period of time, faking his own defeat in his actual appearances merely as part of furthering his own ends. But I don't think in general they tended to set up villains with long term goals. Thanos didn't have a long term goal, he had a one-and-done goal that merely happened to be saved up to serve as a culmination for the set-up of the larger universe. If he had survived he would have served no purpose in the future. Now, of course, you can always invent one, you can invent new progression, new evolution, new plans, new motivations. But he had nowhere logical to go after endgame. I don't think you need extreme long term planning, which can be a negative in films given how long they take to make and all the complications that can arise from that. I just think if you have a strong coherent concept of what the motivations and goals of characters are it allows you to do those things if you want.
I didn't like Quantumania either, but it really irks me when people repeat objective falsehoods like "Kang was beaten by ants", especially when those people supposedly *just* rewatched the movie & should know otherwise.
My least favorite thing is when people say shit like Scott should've endangered the multiverse cause he wanted more time with his daughter, just cause the trailer hinted at it
For someone, who is supposedly mega powerful multiverse villain, Kang had way too much trouble with those ants. And objectively, he WAS defeated by ants. Without ants, Ant-Man would've lost that whole battle.
Kang was beaten by ants. That's why people say it. But it's worse. He was beaten by Earth men from 21st century 1000 years before he was born. He supposedly needed their tech to fix the flat tire in his time machine. I'm going to stop right there. The film is objectively stupid. Period. And the writers for this film and Multiverse of Madness have fired because of it.
I’m still a fan of the MCU. They have at least proven that they can still make good stuff (when it’s not being rushed). For every bland or forgettable Marvel film, there’s always a great movie that reminds me why I love these movies. Plus this is the only ongoing franchise that I actually get excited for.
I never agree with “big cgi fight” as a complaint. Some of the things we want to see from comic book stuff, kinda requires cgi. So like…where’s the problem? Do people expect the film makers to make legit Iron Man suits and cast the actual Hulk? Big cgi fights are totally okie dokie in my book
It's more of a proxy, it's not the CGI as a method, it's the "Here's a swarm of computer generated threats in place of something that would require more thought". It's what is being done with the CG, not the fact that CG is used.
What really grinds my gears is how Transformers 1 & 2 from 2007 and 2009 have some bombastic cgi while disney has some of the worst for being made in the late 2010's until now. Like how is that possible? Massive budgets to be able to see mediocre to bad cgi.
A case of those who preach loudest having the most to hide… Broadly speaking, he seems to have way too much to say surrounding any instance of a woman being shown in revealing clothing. Personally I didn’t like externals very much, but I have no issue with the things you mentioned. I’m fine with the celestial being dead in the ocean, it’s a little weird, but whatever. Me just being pedantic, it’s definitely way too small, compared to the size shown in the scene where it destroys a planet as it “hatches”. My main problem comes from the existence of deviants and the celestial as a big bad. It kinda feels like the movie should have been extended and dealt with those two ideas and threats separately. Also I’m just tired of new characters dealing with world ending threats by themselves. I love Shang-Chi, but I’m annoyed by its final boss for the same reason. Also the nature of the eternals as a team doesn’t feel like it was fleshed out enough, with the whole thing going on where they can forget themselves and become mindless killing machines. It needed more time. Lastly Circi’s powers were treated weirdly throughout the film. It is shown pretty well at first that she can change the material something is made of, but not the shape. The bus is a fun example when she turns it into petals, then it collapses. But the crux of the film has her turn the deviant into a tree. In that case she changes shape, but not material. Then proceeds to never have her do that again. Maybe it was meant to showcase that she can use her powers on living things, but if so they did it wrong. I don’t even know where a celestial would even stand in regard to that. The death of the celestial also just felt weird to me. I don’t read the comics, just read too much into movies. In the end people are allowed to enjoy stuff even if others didn’t. Thanks for reading and have a nice day

Alright, in all fairness, here: if you look it up, Britain gets A LOT of rain. Way more than most of the US does. So this feels like a moment of Britain being Seattle-esque in its' weather.
It's so funny that you said that the aliens in Avengers could speak English so that's bad, but the villain for Thor 2 didn't speak English until late in the movie and that is also bad.
As far as I’m concerned, I didn’t like Ragnarok because all the relationships between those characters were treated as a joke. Odin’s death is even less emotional than Frigga’s death in Thor 2. Loki and Thor’s relationship is reduced to a joke (when Loki betrays Thor and then Thor brings him down, they act childish just for comedic effect. I miss the great rivalry they had in Thor 1, Avengers, and yes even Thor 2).
@@henryisdumb didn’t like it either. For me those two movies are pretty much the same. But at least the chaotic tone makes more sense as the story told by Korg.
I think this is the worst marvel take I've seen in my life ngl. Odin's death is emotional and actually has weight and importance unlike Frigga's. Also Loki and Thor's relationship isn't "reduced" to a joke. There's like one scene where they make a joke about their relationship. They have multiple serious conversations during the movie. Just because the movie's a comedy doesn't mean everything is supposed to be a joke
@@d3va383 I felt nothing during his death. He just happened to be dying and says « Yeah I’m about to die, good luck with Héla dudes. » Plus the timing was a mess, as it comes after a scene where Loki is ridiculed by Doctor Strange and before a scene where Thor is captured ridiculously by Valkyrie.
If you do a sequel to this with the TV shows, make sure to include Daredevil. It isn't technically canon to the MCU despite referencing Avengers-era events sometimes (same with all the Netflix shows I believe), but seasons 1 and 3 of Daredevil is genuinely the best tv Marvel has ever made, and in my opinion are the heights of the MCU as a whole. Season 2 is doodoo tho :(
You decided to watch every single MCU movie, and EVEN THE BAD ONES just to make a video ranking them? I may not understand you, but you have my respect
When I woke up in a hospital hooked up to a million machines and unable to move on my own, when they asked me what to put on the tv I said Iron Man. I'm not sure why it came to me in that moment, Im not big a fan of hero movies, but damn it hit the spot. Cant believe you put it so low on your initial scale.
@@User-b9q2z cuz i don’t praise people for making random changes to things, i praise them for making a good change. i don’t have a problem with this change, im just not sure what’s praiseworthy about it. seems pretty neutral to me.
@@jaybee27D I'd even say it is basically a bad change if there isn't a good narrative reason, because of course it does serve a function, and comics did sometimes do this, of being inclusive, a dirty word to some, but the point was generally to say: Hey, you're a disabled kid? Well there's someone like you who becomes a superhero (that was a Thor thing at one point). A lot of adopted kids do have hard times depending on when they were adopted and how stable it was, so I can see the merit in that. But I agree, all that matters from a quality of story perspective is whether it served a function. How does it affect his relationship with his father, or how does it affect his own psychology and behaviour? And with Stark, where in theory his family legacy has a lot of good and bad mixed up in it, it should generally matter to what extent he feels responsible, or to what extent he feels expectations on him. In the end it's just a choice of his parentage, how it affected his life, and how that would play out in your interpretation. All that matters is that you justify your choices by doing something with them.
I don't understand the trauma with CGI. If you can't make an actual moving robot that shoots lasers and missiles, then you have to use CGI, you got no other option. Same goes with a giant dragon, a giant crocodile, and so on.
I'm not going to pretend I have a cogent explanation because it's someone else's opinion, but I think the issue is more of how generic a lot of the threats are, as threats. The lack of a more sophisticated narrative structure in a lot of cases beyond there needing to be a threat, and, in his view, a lack of imagination in the form that threat takes. The thing with CGI stuff, as it were, and CGI is incredibly sophisticated of course and can be phenomenal anyway, but, it is in those cases, something conjured out of the ether. You almost invariably get more out of a well developed character being acted out in a small moment, than a grand CGI display that by its nature, is depersonalised. That isn't an attack on CGI itself, but rather the categories of instances in which it is sometimes used, and the motivations behind those uses.
CGI looks absolutely terrible when rushed, and the MCU movies are Frequently rushed. But beyond the quality, Big CGI explosions are not new and exciting anymore. We've seen them, just like we've seen faceless CGI alien creatures. As a point of comparison, look how relatively little CGI is used in the dark knight. The Focus is ALWAYS on the characters, how they develop and what their motivations are. The best part of the movie is a conversation in a white room between a clown a guy dressed as a bat.
my only comment is that ur actually just completely wrong with 1 point of GOTG 3, cuz u said 'Gunn had no curve balls from Feige' which.... yeah u musta forgot that Gamora died in the movies before lol. most of the story of GOTG 3 is dealing with the fact OG Gamora is dead and Quill cant get used to New Gamora. aside from that this was a super fun video, i enjoyed it! :)
I think the first Thor is actually one of the best in the MCU. Thor evolving from a completely self centered himbo to someone who serves his friends breakfast and is wiling to sacrifice himself was touching for me.
Similarly, Thor 4 was really good to me. Almost every movie ends by defeating the bad guy by just hitting him hard enough. Especially Thor starts off as really blood thirsty, always looking for another fight. But in Thor 4, he ends the movie by appealing to the villain's good nature. "I choose love. You can too, you can bring her back... Make your wish." and he leaves Gorr to spend his last moments with Jane. Gorr realizes that he's right, and that the whole time all he wanted was justice for his daughter. He was so stuck looking for revenge that he didn't realize he now had the power to undo the damage that was done to her and bring her a more wholesome justice.
He didn't hitchhike from Brazil. He only hitchhiked from Guatemala. After he hulked out in the factory he woke up in Guatemala. You can call that unrealistic if you want but after he hulked out in Age of Ultron he woke up 2 years later on another planet.

Honestly I think most of them haven't even been that bad. People these days just really exaggerate the flaws of whatever media they consume, and make everything sound worse than it actually is.
I think it's because people 1. have set their expectations too high and 2. have been primed to look for flaws from before they even go in by the internet. No, the post-Endgame movies aren't epic life changing films, but they're not the downfall of Western society some people think they are. Even the post-Endgame films I hate the most are so overhated I can't help but go, "Alright, this is hyperbolic as shit, everyone calm down."
I was so nervous u were gonna hate amatw and homecoming bc people got so mad at me when I said those were my favourites back in the day, but I feel SO vindicated rn 💪💪💪
IMO The absolute worst moment in all the MCU was when Thanks killed Gamora for the Soul stone. They established that Thanos genuinely didn't care about Gamora, Nebula or any of his "children." He tortured and abused them and sacrificed them like pawns. And so when sacrificing her to get the souls WORKS somehow... The movie basically confirms that his abusive behavior was somehow... Love? Like not even in a "he believed that he loved her." Way, but in a "the magic of the universe says that his abusive love is fine." Wouldn't it have been so much better if he killed Gamora and nothing happened? It would show that the soul stone has the ultimate protection. You have to kill something you love to get it, but if you are willing to kill what you love for selfish gain, then you never really loved it in the beginning. It would also set up the Hawkeye/Black Widow sacrifice more. You can only get the soul stone by sacrificing yourself, because if you really love someone you would rather put yourself in harms way and that would actually be love.
Apperently the univerde agreed that there is a greater thing then love, and i doubt that it was thanos' selfishness that was its cause. Yes, he had a goal, and that goal was greater then the love he had for his children
It wasn't "the universe", it was specifically the Soul Stone, and the Infinity Stones are shown to be both sapient and malevolent. The Mind Stone is the most obvious example: in the first Avengers movie it influences the Avengers into arguing, and in the second Avengers movie it creates Ultron. But all of the Infinity Stones (except the Time Stone, which is implicitly reined in by sorcerer magic) have at least one scene that shows they're bad news. I don't think it's that far of a stretch for the Soul Stone to judge Thanos's sacrifice of Gamora as "good enough" based solely on how sad he was about it. Also for what it's worth, it's stated at one point (I forget when but I think it was in Guardians of the Galaxy) that the Infinity Stones _want_ to be reunited. Thanos was obviously the best candidate for the job, so that could've been a factor in the Soul Stone's decision to accept his sacrifice of Gamora as well.
Thanos really did care about Gamora. She said "I always hated that throne" and the very next thing he does is sit on the stairs in front of the throne instead. But he also replies "Even so, I'd hoped you'd sit in it one day." He always loved her, but yes he was abusive and pushed them too hard. He was so obsessed with his life's work that he put that before being a good father. I picture a workaholic sports dad who is mostly there for his son to train him. He wants the best for his son, so he trains him hard. But his obsession with sports gets in the way of him seeing that his son just wants to be accepted unconditionally, not only under the condition of his success. A lot of being a good father is preparing your child to succeed in the world, but you're right to point out that another big part of being a father is making your child feel loved unconditionally. Anyways, so both Gamora and Nebula ran away from Thanos and swore to kill him. While they were away from him, he had to reflect on why they left him and how he was as a father. Clearly he matured a lot in this time, because he has multiple moments where he expresses regret. His last words were to Nebula: "Thank you, daughter. Perhaps I treated you too harshly." This is admittedly a little bit personal for me. I have a father that didn't always treat me well. He always did what he thought was best for my future, even if sometimes his methods seemed cruel. I always knew he loved me, and I still know that now. But especially since I've moved out and gone to college and live away from him, he seems to have a more somber regretful tone where he wishes I were closer to him but knows it's his fault that I am not. But I also appreciate that a lot of what he did made me as strong, courageous, and upright morally as I am now. Nebula and Gamora are very strong and independent characters with the only flaw being their childhood trauma because Thanos was (regretfully) an abusive father. But his abusiveness never came from a lack of love or even a lack of empathy. It came from his faulty assumption that they were strong enough to handle being pushed so much by him to become that strong.
And, again, the root cause of Thanos pushing them so much is that he cared more about his life's work than he cared about the daughters he loves. That's also why he is willing to sacrifice Gamora for the soul stone, as explained by him. He thinks his destiny is more important than his loved ones, and is willing to make sacrifices to achieve the ultimate goal. That's ultimately why he wins and the Avengers lose. Captain America isn't willing to make sacrifices, he (arrogantly) thinks he can just work hard enough to win without any losses. If they simply killed Vision, Thanos probably wouldn't be able to find the body to use to the time stone on it. The only reason the Avengers win in Endgame is because Dr. Strange sacrificed the time stone, sacrificed the 5 years, and sacrificed his chances with his lover. All of that was to set up Tony Stark to sacrifice his perfect and peaceful life to save the universe. If you don't understand that Thanos truly does love Gamora (but is simply willing to make huge sacrifices for his goals) then you don't understand the ENTIRE message of Infinity War and Endgame. It's all about sacrificing that which you love for something greater.

1:00:00 You nailed it, expectation were risen to a absurd level, not every Marvel movie has go be infinity war or endgame, some will be have lower stakes or less repercutions and lower "quality" but that is expected. I'm amazed that people think that Marvel didn't do a stinger until phase 4. But also believe that the shows impacted how audiences respond to marvel content and made the "marvel has fall off since endgame" more louder Edit: 1:01:24 I think you point out something very important, the difference in expectation pre-release and then revisiting the movie, now knowing what to expect from it.
yes and even with the TV shows, with Wandavision it was insane, every little mystery or vague reference equaled cameo, and almost in every project it was like when is a mutant goig to show up? even when it didn't make sense.
Yeah exactly this. I've enjoyed most of the MCU films that have come out post endgame, because I always knew they were never going to be the next 'endgame', but set ups for the future 'endgames' I even enjoyed love and thunder (even though it has chronic Ragnarok syndrome) because I didn't expect it to be the next game changer While some are objectively worse than others, to compare it all to endgame and say with a serious face 'the MCU has fallen off' when only a handful of the latest films and series are objectively bad feels disingenuous Edit: I also keep my nose out of all the discourse and trailers so I don't have my expectations set into the stratesphere either
Tony Stark isn't supposed to be a flawed hero, he's supposed to be the absolute last person for the job. He's a womanising billionaire playboy who trades in WMDs, plays both sides, drinks like an alcoholic fish, and has an ego the size of a helicarrier. Without his own weapon literally blowing up in his face, he was on track his supervillain origin story. He mends his ways, but it's not an over night thing. He haunted by his past and feels like he's living in his father's shadow. The MCU tones it down, but he's literally meant to be Andrew Tate.
That you can see Natasha Romanoff's stuff in Avengers 1 and relegate it to "Weird" stuff is where I turned off. Like, it's literally missing the ENTIRE character development. You learn more about Black Widow's perspective in the film from the stuff than anything else. She's a femme fatale who has been taught to use her femininity as a weapon against masculine villains. She has been taught that her feminine side is just that: a weapon, which underpins later development of her pain being forced sterility etc. It also underpins her understanding of what she is. Her very nature is as a killing agent, not even her womanhood is left alone. And so, it makes Loki's statement of "can you wipe out that much red" so much more powerful. Etc.
To answer your question "Was the MCU ever good?" Yes. Phase 1 and Phase 2 was the MCU at it's best. If you think not let's do a little review. Ahem! Phase 1: Was the perfect way to start a franchise. Had it's many issues that hindered half of it's movies from being better than just Origins. Overall the greatest way to start off. Phase 2: It is now not so good. But the Phase isn't that bad. Got Ant-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. The only movies that weren't really good was Thor 2 and Iron Man 3. But in their own right they aren't truly bad. Just the MCU humor hindering their respective stories to reach great heights. Then the Dark times came... Phase 3: Now this. The Phase starts off perfect. Civil War? Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? Oh my god they Phase started off perfect! So why the hell do it classify it as worse than the 2nd Phase? That's because bad movies no matter the goddamn quality were raking $1 Billion dollars. And the worst movie in the Phase and the ENTIRE MCU raked over $2 Billion Dollars. Dark World isn't looking too bad now. The movie i say in question is Endgame. And it's not just because it raked in over $2 Billion dollars. But the next two Phases copy the goddamn movie. Appealing to the fans with Nostalgia. No Way Home, Deadpool & Wolverine. It won't be long before Marvel realize we go in for the nostalgia movies. No wait they already realized because Deadpool 3 exists...Fuck me. Phase 4: The bad only started getting noticed NOW. Beforehand, it could be ignored because the hylw was HUGE. But at this point the hype had died down and boom. The movies only got worse. And shows. No Way Home was the worst because it expects us to gobble it up like we're babies. Phase 5: Started off shit. Has only had ONE good film and that in itself has issues. Borderline not good. But because the other films in the Phase are ten times worse or I just haven't seen them. Yea. Fuck me for getting invested in this universe
I don't know what it is, but I genuinely cannot bring myself to hate iron man 2. You can tell me everything bad about it as much as you want but it never manages to change anything.
My biggest issue with the mcu now is that it can't quite decide if iy wants to do multiverse stories or the skrull stories. I personally feel like post Endgame, the stakes should have been lowered for phase 4, and fhe skrulls presented a good opportunity for that. Compared to the multiverse, they are relatively low stakes. We could have Avengers 5 or The New Avengers or whatever to beat the skrulls and then introduce the multiverse
i find a lot of this analysis surface level, but you did a really good job with showing scenes that add to the context of what you're saying. you have really good comedic timing! the edits are delightful!
i think it'd be much more interesting to evaluate how the comedy changes over time in the films. Iron man 2 isn't that strong in the plot, but it's absolutely one of the funniest MCU movies ever.
The fact this man feels a need to point out every time a character is barefoot when I have seen all of these movies several times and never noticed it in a single scene??? Bro, you got a problem, not the movie
I thinks ethernals is getting so much flame for no reason. That movie is incredibly ambitious, introducing a bunch of new characters, and has a darker tone to it, and I think it does it super well, for me its an A+ tbh. I just feel like some people who like it are afraid to say it out loud, and they shouldnt
The problem with the movie is that the cast of characters ends up being overwhelming. Avengers worked as an ensemble style film because the cast was built up before hand in the individual movies.
@@disrupt94 I agree 100%, but I also think that they dealt with this issue really really well, ofc it wasnt as good as avengers cuz the circumstances were different, but even so I ended up having a good connection to many of the characters
This made me realize that Captain America had the best trilogy after Guardians of the Galaxy and both series have two things in common: they're able to take a step back from marvel blockbuster formula and try out genres where they can carve out a space for themselves(gotg is mainly an absurd comedy while captain america is very political) and both films base their conflicts between people and groups instead of cgi monsters. Also talking about civil war reactivated my twitter arguments gene back: steve was absolutely in the right in civil war, the government was really shady with how they tried to control the avengers and by prisoning everyone who defy them proved steve's point on government control. Both tony and steve have understandable arguments based on their lived experiences(tony knows what happens when someone (himself) is not given restrictions, steve lived as a puppet of the government and also he knows government, just like shield, can get corrupted). People only remember the film as "tony was in the right" because steve hurt him personally and tony was on the role of "betrayed" at the end.
I also feel like while Tony is justified in feeling betrayed by Steve, it doesn't make Steve protecting Bucky wrong - he was so severely brainwashed he didn't recognize his best friend and tried to kill him, do we actually think that he had any ability to decide to kill or spare Tony's parents? And then the Accords which mandate that anonymous superheroes give up their secret identities and wear tracking bracelets all the time... Not to mention the MCU canonically shows that the consequences of the Accords are Bad™️ and they get repelled after a couple of years. I honestly feel like Tony just supports them because of his own guilt and wanting to be able to hand off responsibility for his past choices.
Making a god bleed is a theme he said there is no one else with that tech the whole movie is about the press wanting his tech as weapons for the army but he insist that no one can make it… someone made it and fought him in public to show people do need protection it only cements the avenger initiative
hahah yeah sorry about that, i had a bit about it but i cut it because i didn't wanna bum everyone out - basically, my childhood cat died around the time i first saw black panther 2 and now i can't disconnect those two things, hope that makes sense, also thanks for the kind words!
Ike Perlmutter is why we didn't get a Captain Marvel, Black Panther or Black Widow movie till as late as we did. He came from the toy business and during his time at Marvel he was responsible for something that I feel like rarely gets mentioned. In 'Avengers: Several Days of Ultron' there's a scene where Black Widow has to chase down Cap on a motorbike. When the toy came out Cap had gained a new power in the ability to teleport as he was now the character on the bike and Black Widow was nowhere to be seen in that or really any merch from around that time. Same with Gamora because Perlmutter didn't think "girl" superheroes would sell. He was also the guy who, when they swapped out Don Cheadle for Terrence Howard, said nobody would notice because "all black people look the same". Probably no coincidence he's a not so secret advisor and financial supporter of a current presidential candidate.

My excuse for the regress of Tony from 1 too 2 is that the iron man suit and “brand” has reinflated his ego back to what it was at the start of iron man 1. Iron man 1 was knocking down Tony stark. Iron man 2 is knocking down iron man.
that makes a whole bunch of sense actually, maybe i was too harsh
yeah, but the film itself isn't about regress. it's about Tony learning to be selfless and saving the world. exactly the same as the first film. exactly the same as Avengers. exactly the same as Avengers: Infinity War. Tony Stark may be the most stale character in the whole of mcu
@@DorkN313the original version was going to be an adaptation of Demon in a Bottle so it was going to be about regression, but it was changed, we still see some elements of that idea in the final film though.
I really agree with this, mainly because this has happened to me a lot, just cuz someone is humbled once doesn't mean they shouldnt be in the future
Thor 2's biggest crime is still trying to spend the first 90% being ultra serious, then concludes with a Scooby Doo chase but with CGI portals

11:07 the reason that a ton of the villains are big robots is because the VFX crew who did them at first was the same crew who did the transformers movies so that’s what they were good at and got hired for. @@henryisdumb yep. If you watch the first suit up scene from iron man 1 and compare it to the first Optimus transformation scene in transformers 1 you’ll see that it’s basically the same thing.

Michael Bay cursed us with this
I feel like the post endgame movies have this aura of "what's the point?" The story could've ended after endgame, and it hasn't really justified it's existence
They should have just taken a break for a few years. No TV shows, no movies, nothing. Give us time to miss them.

@@Idkwgo1Honestly I find both to be true. Like there’s no buildup, but I know that they’re intending it to have buildup. Makes it doubly disappointing

Nah, this film bombed for good reason. It had little interest in Banner despite the posturing of the actor, who was fired, for good reason.

_then Riri shows up and seems… tone deaf, almost._
Cosign loved most of WF except some cludgy CG and RiRi who basically takes you out of the film - as Kevin Feige mandates Disney Plus spinoffs.

Jessica jones Colleen wing Karen Paige misty knight Claire temple
Overall I would say Marv studios needs to step its game up in terms of writing.
I wouldn't say this other stuff is perfect btw. Defenders is flawed. The other netflix shows are quite cheap other than daredevil. Agents of shield has some slumps.
But gun to my head I would take the writing of marvel tv and the works of mattew Vaughn over some of the superficial mediocre writing of marvel studios
And the fact the Russos and marvel studios right now believes Robert downy Jr Dr doom is what we want and not just a reallt well thought out story is so cringe and desperate.

Very enjoyable to watch and I think you hit the nail on the head for most of the movies
i understand that but the main thing that bugs me about it is that it's always a bunch of non-descript characters that we've just met and we're supposed to be instantly invested in them, getting whooped by a vaguely magical mcguffin that we only know what it is from an exposition dump an hour later, like in comparison to say when thanos whoops everyone in infinity war you instantly know the stakes because we've had years of build up seeing the heroes win, opposed to these random shield donnies
additionally after watching loki lose only a few hours before in the first thor film, he's already coming into the film with lower expectations because, we've already seen him lose
@@danielkiran8174 Objectively, he wasn't; otherwise he wouldn't have been able to slug it out with Scott afterwards.
@@Strangerz64 If the Pym tech can't fix his time machine, then he should be even *easier* to beat in that movie.
Yeah that has literally never made sense to me. These movies are big action Blockbusters. A huge climatic fight scene is exactly how it should be imo.
It's more of a proxy, it's not the CGI as a method, it's the "Here's a swarm of computer generated threats in place of something that would require more thought". It's what is being done with the CG, not the fact that CG is used.
The problem is that most of the times the cgi is shit and then it all just falls into lazy writing
What really grinds my gears is how Transformers 1 & 2 from 2007 and 2009 have some bombastic cgi while disney has some of the worst for being made in the late 2010's until now. Like how is that possible? Massive budgets to be able to see mediocre to bad cgi.

i really liked it, i think it's one of my faves post endgame, there's just a few annoying bits but apart from that its solid
I did like Eternals too I thought it was fun but the sword post credits scene is dumb
It's so funny that you said that the aliens in Avengers could speak English so that's bad, but the villain for Thor 2 didn't speak English until late in the movie and that is also bad.

@@henryisdumbI think he may have been joking
As far as I’m concerned, I didn’t like Ragnarok because all the relationships between those characters were treated as a joke. Odin’s death is even less emotional than Frigga’s death in Thor 2. Loki and Thor’s relationship is reduced to a joke (when Loki betrays Thor and then Thor brings him down, they act childish just for comedic effect. I miss the great rivalry they had in Thor 1, Avengers, and yes even Thor 2).
i'm intrigued what did you think of love and thunder
@@henryisdumb didn’t like it either. For me those two movies are pretty much the same.
But at least the chaotic tone makes more sense as the story told by Korg.
So you prefer them estranged?
I think this is the worst marvel take I've seen in my life ngl. Odin's death is emotional and actually has weight and importance unlike Frigga's. Also Loki and Thor's relationship isn't "reduced" to a joke. There's like one scene where they make a joke about their relationship. They have multiple serious conversations during the movie. Just because the movie's a comedy doesn't mean everything is supposed to be a joke
@@d3va383 I felt nothing during his death. He just happened to be dying and says « Yeah I’m about to die, good luck with Héla dudes. »

2:17 well in movie that name first appeared in newspapers as a nickname, that's why Tony says i am Iron man
The one change i will always praise the MCU for is making Tony Stark Howard's real son. In the comics, he was adopted
why do you praise them for that?
@@jaybee27Dwhy do you not?
It's one of those things that's impossible to explain to someone who doesn't immediately understand it
@@lynx4082 So, it is something that is bad because is bad. No explanation.
Nice.
god i was so swept into it i completely forgot about that hahahah, that's what happens when you watch over 70 hours of movies in a short span of time
@@henryisdumb understandable lol.

I know a lot of people don’t like the movies post endgame, but honestly there’s been some good stories post endgame

Love? Like not even in a "he believed that he loved her." Way, but in a "the magic of the universe says that his abusive love is fine."
Wouldn't it have been so much better if he killed Gamora and nothing happened?
Perhaps I treated you too harshly."
This is admittedly a little bit personal for me.
@@ijsbeermeneer9952 I recognise that the Universe has made a decision. But given that it’s a stupid-ass decision, I’ve elected to ignore it.

But also believe that the shows impacted how audiences respond to marvel content and made the "marvel has fall off since endgame" more louder
Edit: 1:01:24 I think you point out something very important, the difference in expectation pre-release and then revisiting the movie, now knowing what to expect from it.
i think it is a mad thing to think about, even now with the whole five hundred people rumoured to be in secret wars it's happening again
yes and even with the TV shows, with Wandavision it was insane, every little mystery or vague reference equaled cameo, and almost in every project it was like when is a mutant goig to show up? even when it didn't make sense.
Yeah exactly this. I've enjoyed most of the MCU films that have come out post endgame, because I always knew they were never going to be the next 'endgame', but set ups for the future 'endgames'
I even enjoyed love and thunder (even though it has chronic Ragnarok syndrome) because I didn't expect it to be the next game changer
While some are objectively worse than others, to compare it all to endgame and say with a serious face 'the MCU has fallen off' when only a handful of the latest films and series are objectively bad feels disingenuous
Edit: I also keep my nose out of all the discourse and trailers so I don't have my expectations set into the stratesphere either

1:09:57 “I’m imagining this isn’t going to get as many views as my previous last videos did” little did he know
My biggest issue with the mcu now is that it can't quite decide if iy wants to do multiverse stories or the skrull stories.

Thanks for taking one for the team!
Making a god bleed is a theme he said there is no one else with that tech the whole movie is about the press wanting his tech as weapons for the army but he insist that no one can make it… someone made it and fought him in public to show people do need protection it only cements the avenger initiative
