I suspect that the Illustration rares, despite having a Secret Rare number, they’ll still have the same pull rates as Trainer Gallery cards. And they will still be pulled in one of the Reverse holo slots. I’m pretty positive of this. Just looking at Japanese boxes, you’ll pull a Secret rare, and like 3 illustration rares. Just the same as when they were SwSh era Japanese boxes with trainer gallery cards
That was my first thought too, surprised Jake didn’t mention this as a possibility, he’s familiar with the Japanese sets, and even though they have ‘secret rare’ numbers, they have different rarity levels as are clearly defined now
I thought the same thing too like you will get 3-4 of the lower end illustration rares a booster box and hopelly one of the big ones a box and then a chance at another secret rare
That's not too many rarities. There has been that many in the previous sword and shield and even sun and moon sets but they just had one symbol, a silver star. That doesn't mean there were less rarities, now it's just an easier way to differentiate between them, especially for new collectors
This is a little bit of stretching out the reality of the situation. When this gardevoir ex art rare card’s set number was revealed we also saw some AR cards like Dolliv also get revealed, which is 200/198. Assuming all 24 art rare cards from japans scarlet and violet set are going to be in our English set, we can almost halve the number of secret rares in terms of SR cards that are hard to pull. The non-textured art rares are now classified as secret rares but I think it’s safe to assume they will have higher pull rates (like the trainer gallery cards of recent time). There are still realistically going to be only a couple high valued chase cards from S&V, my guesses being the art rares of Miraidon ex and Gardevoir ex. I doubt Miriam will hold the same value as her Japanese counterpart. But yeah, scarlet and violet will be a big set but I think it will be feasible to collect despite the way secret rares have been recategorized.

I think you’re making a judgement too early in this. You get multiple art rare cards in a Japanese booster box and I’d be surprised if TPCi changed that. Just because there isn’t a designated gallery doesn’t mean they are going to be exceptionally difficult to pull. I think it’s wiser to wait and see what the pull rates are actually going to be rather than drumming up fear and outrage about it before the sets even out.
I like the direction the Pokemon company is taking SV if what you are predicting is true. The quality of the cards and art are increasing in quality and desirability over the old gold/rainbow/full arts (secret rares in japanese). It makes sense that the rarity reflects the desirability of the cards.
Im expecting the lower secret rare numbers to be much more easily pulled similar to how the lower number trainer and galarian galleries are much much more easily pulled. Im hoping with the additional holo rare slot it is all well balanced out. I agree 5-6 should be the amount you pull from a booster box.
No, I believe we still will have a trainer gallery subset. Even if we didn’t, it wouldn’t be against the usual because a subset has usually on,y been applied for the last 4 sets in an era. Or, like you said, secret rares will be much more common.
I don't think overall odds are better or worse. Its just that the "trainer gallery" slot now is here to stay. non-holo rares won't mean that higher rarities will show up. And then its just more rev holos which I personally hate, but if they insist on them existing, it at least helps the collectors looking to collect a complete set with rev holos.
This was the fine print on my preorder. If i could post the screenshot i would but... "Each pack of Pokemon cards will now feature three guaranteed foil cards per booster - all cards with a rarity of Rare or higher will now be foil"
I really wish they just stuck to how Black and White series sets were...with only, like, 1-3, maybe 5 for the high end of expansions Ultra Rares, and only like 1-2, MAYBE 3 max. secret rares. It really made the UR's harder to pull, but the satisfaction when you see that shininess of a card, you KNOW it's rare. 60+ Secret Rares is just too much imo. Also, the sets were only like 100-130 cards without counting SR's.
I just pulled a Koraidon alt art and Arven trainer gallery from the pre release. It does kinda feel like the pull rates are high in this set compared to the other ones.
I think I heard that full art cards are considered secret rares in SV. So there aren’t necessarily more secret rares in the set. They just changed what is considered part of the main set and the secret set.
1. It's already been leaked that AR's are in one of the reverse slots. 2. The increased number includes full art Pokemon and trainers.... which were part of the main set before. That means those secret rares include AR's, FA's, SAR's, and gold's. Some of those cards are in the reverse slot and from some of the early openings, pull rates seem promising. Man, you should know better than to speculate without looking into the information. People will use videos like this to try to inflate prices when they can, but the set is not available to the public yet. All we have to work with are speculative videos like this and the few leaks that have happened. Wait until the set releases to see how the pulls work.
I'm fairly confident that pull rates will remain pretty consistent. All of the character rares in VMAX Climax were technically "secret rares" since their numbering exceeded the set number, yet you get 3 per box along with a CSR, and they go for around $3 on the secondary market.
To be honest, I'm 50/50 on this. One the one hand, the secondary market could be an absolute nightmare like it is with Japanese. On the other hand, if they're changing English sets to be more like the Japanese sets, maybe they'll finally improve the print quality? Possibly?? *PLEASE?!*
Great video Jake. I truly hope you are right Jake and that secret rare cards are easier to pull. I’m really happy with the pull rates for crown zenith, I haven’t been disappointed with any of my openings, if they continue the same as they are it should be fun

I think Pokémon Company was tired of people calling Holo Rare V and GX cards “UlTrA RaReS” when they never were. CHECK YOUR ETB BOOKLETS! It has always said the normal V and GX cards have been Holo Rare V and not Ultra Rare! Ultra Rare have the texture. I mean come on, does it really make sense to call something ultra rare when they are approx one in every 3 or 4 packs?!? Finally we can get past the ignorance with a wider rarity symbol catalog.
The rarity system with double black star, single gold and double gold star i think is fine. I'm not saying this is based on any facts but internally this is more than likely how they decide how many alternate arts and secret rare is an ultra rare's etc. get made and put into product. Were just now publicly getting the rankings. As for how MANY secrets there are, that's absolutely insanity
Great video Jake! I personally like all the changes Pokemon is doing for Scarlet Violet. Big question on a lot of collectors mind is pull rates and difficulty of pulling secret rares.
I think I'm done collecting pokemon cards. I collect for sets and it's becoming more pricey and not worth it.
Do you think the English Miriam will go crazy like the Japanese version?
It will be a 20 dollar card like serena and the rest of them
They're clearly transitioning to what japanese sets are like, having loads of SRs, I can only imagine they will be easier to pull them
I don't think japanese secret card is expensive because of the rarity, more like card shops and capitals invest in waifu cards
I hate that there is not real alt arts anymore.
Good !! If they're raising the prices on this trash, they better make it easier to pull all these $1000 cards
It so much easier in Japanese sets they literally say sr or ar or sar which for me makes more sense
'Gotta catch em' all' (at a price)
I see singles goin up in prizes, especially if the pullrates are absolute shite.
It's getting so expensive to get a whole set.
Great video Jake! I personally like all the changes Pokemon is doing for Scarlet Violet. Big question on a lot of collectors mind is pull rates and difficulty of pulling secret rares. I personally enjoy opening packs and trying to complete master sets. I hope they make pull rates easy and I don’t have to go broke chasing these secret rares. 😂👍🙂
