Lana is a really talented musician. But she explores some really dark and unconventional thoughts, so if this is something that triggers you, maybe it’s better you stay away from her :) Ride is actually pretty mild hehe
Later albums are less triggering in general.
Prech plz I'm a vet myself and I love the America use to be.
i think "triggering" is probably not the right term; i've known a lot of people with similar attitudes and they all turned out to be...not quality people. but apparently this is all fiction, and even "lana" herself is a stage name and a fiction, so im just taking it as a piece of fiction i dont strictly agree with.
@@PopAt50 i relate to ride but i totally understand what you mean
Lana is Amazing, her range and versatility is fantastic!
her work is really great, her voice is enchanting. im looking forward to a lot more
100% autobiographical, it’s truly complex and contradicting art, if you’ve never experienced a depth/theme like this it will probably make you uncomfortable ngl, truth like this comes from the soul and with that comes that it is not for everyone.
Thanks for watching, hope you explore more. ✌🏾👋🏾
there seems to be no real consensus about how "real" this is . im taking it at %100 fictional character at this point. look at the last couple comments time wise, (newest). they say precisely the opposite. yet others say it's a mishmash. it's quite fascinating at this point
@@PopAt50 I say that because she stated it in an interview about her work at this time, she was directly asked that question. I think the fictional notes come in in how she writes and overall delivery of the work. The mishmash being her referencing things she finds beautiful in her life experience.
Lana once said in her interview that many of it was what she went through in her past life before she was famous.
past life like, reincarnation?
@@PopAt50 read it again 🤭
@@PopAt50 she had a troubled childhood got into drugs
As far as I know she clean now but that's why a lot of her stuff has a darker twist to it
THE FUCKING DAY I WAITED FOR
i wish i coulda gotten you there earlier but the backlog of requests is close to 100 now! anything else you want to hear?
@@PopAt50 more lana or Taylor swift please!
Sometimes u gotta step back and ask yourself "Am I a hater?" 💀
there's a crucial difference between not agreeing with something and hating. "hating" is irrational. my dislike of this *character in a *fictional *song is based solely on her actions and attitudes. has nothing to do with the artist. it's not capricious, and if you're getting worked up over it, sometimes you gotta step back and ask yourself, "do i feel this is a critique on ME?"
@@PopAt50 🥱 save it, and any other Lana reactions. I don't think you're the correct audience.
I love Lana sm, but it’s understandable that the attitude you see in the poetic sections of the video doesn’t appeal to many. I think it’s supposed to be from a young, angsty woman’s perspective who feels lost and misunderstood like many late teens and young adults and it definitely carries a certain naivety to it. Lana was in her twenties when this was released and her music and attitudes to life is much different now. Thanks so much for reacting to her !
you're welcome! i've now been schooled in the comments about a lot of lana's work and viewpoints on the art-now that it's pretty much confirmed it's all fictional, then it's just a point of view, and easier to not get worked up by. keep watching!
It would be beautiful if you would react to her older songs first and see her evolution over time. She really has made a huge change.
React to Young & Beautiful next
comin up!
It is autobiographical, she used to live in a trailer park. Her parents are quite rich but she has a Wild Life Style back then. She was sent to a boarding school at the age of 15 and used to have violent relationships(drugs, violence) shes better now , and shes Also a beautiful poet
Sorry for my english
that's strange. no one in the comments can agree on that. it's about 50/50 fiction, bio.
a lot of it is biographical but i think it’s more like “oh what if i never got a record deal and continued living the way i did” type of situation + just yearning for freedom in general
Yeah this video is a lil out there but that is what put lana out there you should react to more of her stuff so you got more of a feel on who she is start with BORN TO DIE !
more is coming!
She is a superior spirit. I wish i was at the same level as her. ❤️
i wont tell you not to feel a given way, but i refuse to put anyone on a pedestal; "superior" just sounds...idol worshippy.
Can you react to Textbook from her please ? :) It is from her last album Bleu Bannister one of the best album of 2021 in my opinion :)
got it, scheduled!
excited to see more lana on this channel
she plays a character called artist some of its true some of its not.
there seems to be no real consensus in the comments about how "real" this is . im taking it at %100 fictional character at this point
you're funny lol enjoyed that reaction lol be sure to check out more of lanas videos you will be taken for a "ride" lol i suggest "chemtrails over the country club " you're welcome in advance 😉
thanks! stick around and i will react to that too!
But i think the concept of freedom she has now is different, shes more mature and her music os too now
always happens with age
Would really love to see a reaction to "Sapokanikan" by Joanna Newsom !!
ill put it on the schedule-ought to be nice, never heard of her!
You never defined what freedom is to you. I'm interested. I think her ideas were young here, she was ~27, maybe she even wrote the song years before that. Living life for art is one way of living. It often kills you because tragedies are arguably the highest forms of art. We all die anyway. I'm not sure if I agree with living life for art anymore, but I don't really have a fully formed alternative either. I prefer the actual song to the narration.
U don’t like this message bc it doesn’t relate to you
i don't like this message because it's self involved as hell.
Lana, forever
I think it's about how things used to be. She's said before that's all she used to sing about (her past). It's an angsty "I wanna be free" song that almost every teen goes through, so that's probably how she felt since she's singing about her past.
She did go to boarding school, so maybe she was with the wrong crowd. So I guess it's mostly true with some exaggeration for dramatic effect (like every artist does).
this has certainly stirred up some great commentary-but everyone is saying different things about who she really is, how accurate to her life this is, it's quite confusing. some commenters are saying %100 her, some saying it's %100 fiction, it's nbot clear anyone actually knows.
regardless, thanks for watching and commenting! i'll observe her journey with great interest!
oooooh more lana !!! she’s the BEST. EVER.
more coming!
You should totally check out Born to Die and National Anthem.
Also, "Lana del Rey" is a persona and a character which personally, and I think every fan would agree, I think shouldn't be judge by regular standars, meaning the person is Elizabeth Grant, but Lana is just like an alter ego, almost like a fantasy created character that Lizzie (the artist) uses to create her version of art. If you keep digging into her music you'll find out that every album has an era, a different feel and vibe to it that will sell you the idea that it's all like a big production driven through music. Especially in her newer stuff we can see her parting ways with Lana and being more Elizabeth, and I think checking her stuff and sumerging yourself in that storyline and evolution is worth it.
Of course, if you don't like it you don't have to, but I encourage you to not judge her music based on "art and artist are the same" but rather thinking that she's an actress interpreting a role through her albums.
She's a huge fan of poetry, even published a poetry book, so her lyrics aren't meant to be taken literally. The line "I believe in the country America used to be" probably is a way of saying "My mind is America, my own country, and I miss my old self and my old life" rather than an era when she wasn't even born. In this MV she acts as a prostitute, but ofc she was never a prostitute irl, but she felt like she didn't belong and felt lost, things that are usually part of the lifestyle of a sex worker, so she used that simile. The "I'm free" feel of it I've always interpreted as if she was saying "I'm happy, finally, so I'm free from my own mind and my own demonds, cause the things that tormented me back then are gone", which could be related to her being addicted to alcohol as a teenager. There's a lot of depth to her lyrics and I feel like you scratched the surface, totally understandable since it's your first time listening to her.
Great reaction! I think is amazing that you were annotating stuff and paying attention to the video, music and lyrics at the same time.
One last thing. If you wanna listen more from her I recommend starting from the beginning, which would be the album Born to Die or the Video Games music video. If you dont care about starting from the beginning I'd recommend then the Norman Fcking Rockwell album, which gives you a more modern Lana and is a more "comercial" sound but still maintaining her originality and indie feel that made her famous.
Thanks and I can't wait for the next video! :)
i've taken to interpreting almost *anything said in a song as being fictional. the song is great, the attitude of the character rankles me. i was reserving judgment that this wasn't actual her real thoughts. and now that i know even "lana" isn't "real", well, that's pretty cool, actually. thanks for all the good info, i'll be happy to hear more of her stuff later and present it to you!
Please do more lana reaction.
This is not 100% about her. But there are so many great lana del rey songs. You should check out her newer songs they have totally different vibe and subject matter.
this is very curious because the commenter three comments up said it's %100 really her! as for more lana, yes! it's coming!
Lana is just a genre on its own
im beginning to learn that very thing!
Lana is very unconventional. But so is her upbringing; being put in an extremely strict boarding school and dealing with alcoholism at the young age of 14 years old. She said she wrote the album born to die about those years. i do think that her perception of freedom at the time was twisted because it was based on things that were rebellious to her. I think at the time she saw rebelling and freedom as the same thing.
very intriguing. thank you!
Her depiction of this wild unhinged but free personality is mostly fictional. She plays the persona of the all Americana woman who has an old soul trapped in her current body. She references historical American periods either through her lyricism or her overall aesthetic and you’ll find that peppered throughout her entire discography. She talks about alcoholism and abuse often painting a vivid picture of them, which is often unfortunately met with criticism saying that she glamorises these dark and ominous subject matters. I personally don’t think she glamorises them but rather she tells a story through her eyes about how very real and raw these experiences have been for her. Art is art at the end of the day it’s an artist expression and that’s how she chooses to portray it. Take that as you will but I admire her as a poet who has, in my opinion, an unmatched prestigious level of skill and talent in the music industry unlike any other artist out there. There’s not a single artist like her she’s unique in that way and it’s evident in her work.
this is very curious-some commenters are saying %100 her, some saying it's her but in a "previous life", some saying it's %100 fiction. i wonder what she's said about it herself?
You missed the whole point
maybe. but so?
You should react to national anthem by miss lana del rey. The music video it's one of her best
the actual anthem or a song about it?
React to Ultraviolence next
now scheduled!
I definitely think you should listen to more Lana. She’s truly an icon when comes to pop culture and had a huge influence on many pop artists today (such as Taylor swift). She has all types of sounds and songs. I think you’ll enjoy her album “Norman fucking Rockwell” a lot. It has beautiful lyrics and melodies and quite different from what you’ve heard from her.
Hello from Lithuania. Please react to and listen to Love by Lana Del Rey. It's one of the best songs by her for me.
excellent, i will. thanks for watching!
Kween Lana stun! 🥰 Btw i love your headphone hahaa
thanks! i like having fun around here and the ears just add to that. good clean fun!
@@PopAt50 oh nice pls react more to queen lana! Support! ❤️
I would listen to this on my way to school and I really thought I was her 😭😭😭. Also the America it used to be comment, she’s playing a character in her songs
Sir with all do respect. Lana del Rey is a very different artist. Im sorry you felt that way but please give her music a chance!🙏
ive got more coming, but what people are asking for ...so far it's not my cuppa. i believe in fair shakes tho so im still doing more.
Please react to her "Born to Die" and "Summertime Sadness" videos.
now on the list!
Just keep in mind she wrote this in her early 20s and is now in her mid 30s. Check out some of her newer material. Maybe hope is a dangerous this for a women like me to have
lots of things change in those two decades of life
...but I have it.
I dont think she is trying to convince or teach what freedom is, like it doesnt matter what ur individual ideia of freedom here cause the poem explain her experiences and ideia of freedom, its cool to analyzing but its not a conversation with the poem at self
Bro I've been suggesting this for a long time
i knowwww! there's a backlog of requests-nearly a hundred-but if you stick with me you'll get what you want!!!
I believe some of it is autobiographical but it is also written by someone in their mid 20s about her realise who would have a very different idea of life goals than the Lana in the current day.
She does at times look back fondly at the simplicity and anonymity of her life pre fame but is clearly aware of what it brings to her.
She is an artist who is worthwhile stating from her early days as her themes and style change dramatically by album
there seems to be no real consensus about how "real" this is . im taking it at %100 fictional character at this point
Even if it’s 100% autobiographical (it’s not, it’s a mix) why not just agree to disagree on lifestyle choices rather than go into judgment day mode lol
Please react to Heroin, Hope is a dangerous thing and Arcadia by Lana del Rey. I really liked your thoughts of the song 😊
got 'em, thanks!
Plsss react to shades of cool by her- one of her best songs that shows her vocal abilities and the music video is amazing!
i got you!
React to I don’t wanna be you anymore by Billie Eilish it has amazing lyrics please.
that's an intriguing title-on the schedule!
Please react to National Anthem by Lana! The music video is great.
ok!
you should also react to Freak by Lana its very interesting
i will!
I believe most of this is fiction, a character.
now see, the guy 5 comments up said it's 100% her real life. curious
not a good video..
bah
I would love to see you react to Blue Jeans by lana
will do!
Can you do the other woman by lana del rey too?
it will be a while, but absolutely!
Would love to see you react to more Lana stuff 🙌🏼
more is indeed coming! lots of good suggestions in the comments
do white dress!! it’s also by Lana, such a nostalgic song
ah, tha'ts one no one has mentioned yet, thanks!
@@PopAt50 White Dress is a great song that was completely improvised on the spot with the 'tape' rolling.
❤❤❤
Is this a regret song or a celebratory one? Lol hahaha Lana would fit both into one song and leave you wondering
MORE LANA PLS
lol hedonism bad.. just because its a life you could never attempt doesnt make it shallow
what i attempt or not is irrelevant. selfishness and giving in to base desires merely to enjoy them, constantly, without thinking of the larger world is always shallow.
