I restored a Winnie certified '67 Manx that came to me in pieces. The ethos back in the 1960s was build them up as quick & cheap as you can, salvage as much as you can from the donor & go have fun (I think some of the Meyer's ads claimed it could be done in a weekend). Which meant I found myself dealing with 50 year old bodges! Your work is so exemplary it's just a whole other level. Can't wait to see the rest of the build.
Great Job Neil, Wished you lived next door man I have about 7 vws Love the old fiberglass bodies Just got 68 Daytona Made by Allison in Daytona Had to cut new frame got it ready to weld but no welding stuff . Hi Neil. I found your channel by way of FB on the vw buggy page and I just wanted to say please don’t alter the way you film and edit you videos as I’m blown away by your naturalness to the camera and, way you deliver information to us etc and The pace of your vids is spot on and a real joy to watch (and the lighting levels in your garage are perfect- neither too dark nor too bright, just right). This summer I’m wanting to start a buggy project with my two boys (7&5 years old) which will be a LWB buggy to get us all in and your journey sets out what I could face when do get started. I’m interested to see your work on a decent roll cage and how it can be tied into the floor pan correctly. Have you considered possibly making a video on your welding techniques as your welds look sweet and the mig sounds like it’s frying bacon nicely? Keep it up as I now find myself looking for your next instalment almost daily. 👍
wanted to build one of these for years. zero welding abilities. just bought a flux welder so i could learn. is it possible to get good enough welds with a flux welder to do something like this?
This is totally the incorrect way to shorten the chassis, never "but joint" the two chassis parts together. Chassis are cut behind the handbrake because you can slide the chassis sections into each other. Also cut the joint at a fourty five degree angel ( Z cut) will be twenty time stronger. This section of the chassis is the back bone of the car, the stronger the better. apart from that great workmanship and a good vid
Neil "not sketchy at all" Steel! That has to be the cleanest chassis cut down in history.
Incredible metal work.. If I were a rich man, you’d be first on my list to be asked to build me a Dune buggy.. I seriously am enjoying this series.
Thank you! But there are people out there that are far more qualified at this stuff than I am.
@@Neil_of_Steel Quality and thought, you’re right on time.. Being a VW guy, I’m digging the series!! Love the buggies..
I keep waiting for you to use the Phrase "Bob's your uncle." 🤣 Great work by the way, keep up the good work. 👍🏾

Neil, you make everything look so easy, hoping mine goes that easy.
Subscribed! I love how you go into details about some of the tips and tricks. That is very rare.

Thank you! I will be describing the welding process in more detail in some future videos so please check those out.
Not having done it before well done, I am in subscribed and wait for more videos🚗
I be waiting part 3 clean job buddy
I can’t recommend a festool hoover unit with a festool sander it’s amazing at keeping messy jobs clean.
When I shortened mine I cut the rotten frame head off and welded the new one on 14” back, then moved the gear stick and handbrake to match,
That's a clever way of doing it!
NIce video and good explanation, which showed me stuff I always wondered about
Awesome work mate!
Awesome video, weld work like a pro, well compared to me..
nice job Neil
Brilliant series so far! Are you a professional welder, or did you learn it yourself?
Thank you! I'm far from a professional though.
I'm a signwriter by trade and only do this stuff as a hobby and am self taught at all of it.
