Good one, James (MJ tagged me) I saw "Twelfth Night" at Chicago's Navy Pier Shakespeare theater, and Malvolio was played by a very tall, male guy black guy, who was _hilarious!_ I'll never forget it. I _do_ annotate/marginaila some of the classics I study; however, I'm w ya on highlights in 2nd hand books and in library books being barbaric. 📚
Something about Aaron Facer being grouchy and annoyed brings me a smile, because I believe him to be the most chill guy on booktube! You are able to pull off being annoyed slightly better, but I still have trouble sensing your outrage. Fun tag🙂 Thanks!
Th price of books. Lol right to the point, I like it! Tall books that tower over ones next to them bugs me too. Glad to have found your channel with this tag and looking forward to more content.
Good answers, James. Aww, the little free library reveal- taking all the books or not taking any. Yay! Deckled edges. Interesting, annotations vs. highlighting. Hello, Louise. 🐶
I totally feel you. There are some things that annoy me with the book printing....my primary complaint is a book series that has a specific size and theme cover and then the final or next book in the same series is not the same size! This happens, I'm told when the publishing company changes or the new person in charge decides the volume should go in a different direction with respect to cover design. But the most egregious is the choice of paper for a volume. Touching that newsprint hurts my brain and I feel like I can envision that volume not aging well and yellowing and it's a hard pass every time. I love handcut pages and french fold covers! Yes every time. lol
OMG! The price of books - SO annoying! How did I miss that? We had someone cleaning out our Little Free Libraries last year. I try to tidy them up as well. Sally Rooney … 😂😂😂Thanks so much for doing this tag! 💛
@@JamesRuchala Negative videos can get a lot of attention. I didn’t mean for this to be totally negative - those definitely aren’t the videos I typically make! Clearly some people are more bothered by things than others are, I guess! It was meant more as a harmless bug bite than … well, the health equivalent of really big rant! 😃
This is one tag I considered doing for a moment after watching your video. Temporary lapse of reason. Likely if I do it I'll anger much of the booktube community. I will mention one pet peeve. I thought about when you were talking about spoilers, which led me to trigger warnings. I can't stand them. They ruin the story. One of the joys of reading Romeo and Juliet in middle school was that we had no idea the teens would commit suicide. We've would've revolted if the teacher prefaced our reading with a so called trigger warning. To quote the Queen from Alice in Wonderland, "off with her head!" (oops, another trigger warning needed!)
A pet peeve of mine with books is tiny print. For example, I received an Abacus paperback edition of David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest for Christmas. The print was so tiny I couldn't read it (and even a young person would ruin their eyes trying to do so). I've noticed quite a few Penguin paperbacks have too small print. Generally, the print in hardbacks is more generous, which I like.
I found that the print kept getting unreasonably smaller every year until I got a prescription for progressive lenses. The print size has really improved since then.
The only spoiler that ever annoyed me was the one that was in the foreword of We Have Always Lived in the Castle. What sort of idiot spoils a book in the Foreword???
Clever take on the tag and ❤to Louise. Is that the 80 volume Penguin little black book collection? If so I'm jealous😂. And should we mention IJ and what looks to be an unbroken spine. I have one of those, too. I'll get there...one of these days. 😂 Not an annoyance per se but a poorly narrated audio book can be tough to endure and that's my biggest source of DNFs.
You've been snooping on my shelves, eh? I know the penguin set you're talking about, but this isn't it. It's just my shelf of regular black-spine Penguin Classics. And that is a well-read copy of IJ, I'll have you know. (fake dudgeon). Those are phone-books and you'd have to try to break the spine. In my younger days, I almost always bent the spines back when reading a book, but now I try to be gentler. Turns out you can read them just as well without trying to turn them inside out. Thanks for watching!

The only thing that annoys me about books is not being able to buy all those that I want.

I like Twelfth Night probably best of the comedies. There's a good production from Lincoln Center on UA-cam.
@@JamesRuchala I like the play, a lot, too, but _The Merchant of Venice_ is my favorite Shakespearean comedy.

Thanks for watching. Your channel looks pretty cool. Subscribing.
@@JamesRuchala Thank you! 😊
I so rarely buy new release books that I don’t notice the price. I do however get miffed at the price of many Kindle books.
❤🐶
Amazon's kindle book prices are unconscionable. $15? for a file that they can take away if they want?

I wanted a new book on history the other daye hardback was 21.99, and the ebook 20.89! What a gouge, needless to say, I didn't buy either.
Great answers, revealing some of your bookish peeves.
Cool! Thanks for tagging me! You're the second one, so I guess I better hurry and do this tag!
“Everything anyone ever does in a Sally Rooney novel.”😂😂😂 My answer to that prompt would have been similar, but not as artfully phrased.
I'm sure you'd have your own artful spin on it.
lol, very annoying

I am now annoyed by all the "I'm so annoyed booktube tags" popping up in my feed.
Yeah, it's really taken off. Turns out bibliophiles are all a little cranky and just need an invitation to spout off.
I watched one or two and that was enough for me unless I'm subscribed to the channel. Tempted to rant against those other channels:)@@JamesRuchala

That's just cruel! Save the forwards and introductions for the end, I say.

*ding ding ding*!! 🛎️ The first time I’ve heard someone say “frisson”. (Do I dare or do I dare? I don’t think I’m ready to use it myself though.)
Haha. Glad you liked it David. I say go for it.
My tongue will tell the anger of my heart, or else my heart concealing it will break. Shakespeare.
Are you going to give this one a try? Consider yourself tagged! I want to hear your answers.
8:20 that new penguin design is worse in every way!!
I mean, it's still usually the best choice for a reprint, but they're just uglier now.

I agree. Aaron's channel is great and I think that's part of the joy of seeing him talk about annoyances.
