    Bill had to die to show that this was a legitimate family. They had to show that it wasn't bill who made the family whole. Like any other family out there, they go on TOGETHER. The women didn't scatter to the wind after bill died bc their bonds and commitments were as much to each other as they were to Bill. As sad as it was to see bill die, had he stayed alive to end the show the notion that polygamous marriages are mainly for the gratification of men would have endured. The entire point of this show was showcasing the women as individuals with their own passions and dreams and wants and needs. They weren't like those FLDS women who could not exist as a family without a man to lead them. These women didn't need leading and in the end they stayed together bc their bonds had been greatly tested and as Barb said they were forged by fire and the bonds were unbroken. The family remained even without bill. It wasn't about sex or control it was about the true definition of family. Brilliant ending. Brilliant.

      I agree with your comment. I cried like a baby when they killed him off and felt like I had lost him too. I lived this life for twenty years. It was a great yet difficult lifestyle. And the man works the hardest from my perspective. Having to show love without inflaming the other relationship. If you think a man has it made in this lifestyle, try it.

    I love that they got Natalie Maines to do a version of "God Only Knows" -- it was a great way to close it out as a callback to the beginning. Maines is actually a major fan of the show & was thrilled to be asked to do this. The full track is available to stream or buy. I definitely miss Bill Paxton. Regarding his acting abilities, he wasn't often recognized for the range he was capable of. But "Big Love" definitely gave him the material to show that range; his portryal of Bill Henrickson earned him the Emmy & Globes nods he hadn't garnered previously.

    Such a great show, very realistic and I love how it portrays character development, different seasons of faith of each individual and their (family) relationships. As much as my heart broke when Bill died, that hug was somehow even more touching - without a single word it literally made everything fall into place and proved the whole point of the series.

  • @yluj0407

    What a great ending. And yes Bill had to die in order to achieve greatness. He basically started a new church and by allowing Barb to bless him shows that she still needed him to be ok with her being the priesthood holder for her to finally answer her calling. I believe in the word of God and have accepted Jesus in my life but I never believed in the Mormon religion and especially polygamy, but this show has opened my eyes to see that all this arguing about religion is making everyone

    You know I was really pissed, Bill overcame so much in his life, to have his life end by some crazy neighbor was unfair...it was cool that his eyes was fixed on his first wife Barb instead of the other 2. Barb got her priesthood n everybody else got what they got...my question is what do they do for companionship?? Especially the younger one?

    • @millers3888
      @millers3888 4 роки тому +12

      It is. In my honest opinion, Bill is the least likable character on the show. Always just doing whatever he wants without any input from his wives. The best part of the series to me was the sister wives relationships with each other. Brilliant acting from Jeanne Tripplehorn, Chloe Sevigny and Ginnifer Goodwin when they were all together.

    • @patrick4662
      @patrick4662 Рік тому +1

      @@millers3888 As the series progresses he really gets exposed. To this day I am not sure if polygamy was his true belief - or if it was like Barb's mom called him out after he tried to Marry Anna. "Its a lifestyle preference!!!!" she said - nothing holy about it.
      Also as the show went on he was increasingly involved in "plot" stuff, which took him away from the concerns at home. Juniper creek, weber gaming, the hardware store, money problems, and eventually politics - he always focused on that stuff before his family.
      He would have his occasional moments, but you start to root for the wives instead of Bill pretty early in the series.

    I like this show better than Six Feet Under, personally. No character fully leaves the faith, but there is a lot of fair questioning. Many characters change their beliefs throughout the course of the show, and one of the show's main arcs is the first wife's changing of beliefs despite it going against her entire family. It's a very excellent watch. I would recommend it.

      They are two of the best family dramas in the history of HBO IMO. I found Big Love to be unique because as you point out, basically every single character has a deep religious conviction. I don't watch a lot of shows like that, I can't even think of one - at least not one set in modern times. Even the non-polygamy LDS people are SUPER religious. It makes for some interesting character motivations.

    Think Heather will ever let Ben bring other wives into their marriage?

  • @danielpack7675
    @danielpack7675 Рік тому

    I would have preferred Heather and Sarah as a couple myself. It would have been awkward, but interesting with the rest of the family. Heather was clearly gay, whatever Sarah was, in any case. And Ben should be polygamous. That was always his predisposition.

    • @patrick4662
      @patrick4662 Рік тому

      I feel you on that. My only Devil's Advocate would be maybe they were both going through a phase - initially I mean. Ben with following in his father's footsteps and Heather with her attraction to Sarah. Maybe she is a lesbian, obviously I don't think that is a choice. But maybe it was also just all this LDS stuff that had her repressed and screwed up to begin with. I kinda liked Ben and Heather as a couple.
      But I think its unrealistic that they ended up together not because of their predispositions, but because the world is a big place and they already had a break-up. You'd think they'd both be over and out, but for the purpose of the show it was probably tidy and neat to bring her back in at the end.

    miss the point. The most important thing is to serve God and take care of your family. Bill’s family was taking care of so much so that even in death they were still strong and in fact stronger. His neighbor from across the street. As to why? That is sort of open to interpretation. The technical reason is he was mad at Bill for re-sodding his yard without him asking. He was emasculated by Bill, someone who he looks down on and doesn't respect because of the polygamy. But I think the hatred and resentment were brewing for a while.
