I don't know about you but I thought the lick over the C major chord to B flat major at 15:30 was outstanding, extremely tasteful and melodic. All the more impressive when Mark was playing it under the pressure of a live performance. I immediately learned it to see if I could transfer it to pedal steel guitar.
I am amazed by your version of this piece. I would love the opportunity to play this. Thanks for your time and effort in creating this UA-cam video and for producing such an accurate version for all Knopfler fans to enjoy learning. Thank You Steve!
this is perfect originally i was playing the original sultans with some licks i made and with the alchemy solos i now i can play the whole thing and i love charlie is he a 50,s strat he looks like a 50,s anyway Steve once your an absolute legend thank you so much. also loving the dedication you got all the straits vinyls on the couch.
This was a wonderfully done video ! So well thought out and to our good.Thank you very very much for showing it slowed down so even an old fellow as I might actually catch on to one of my old favotets :>)
A good write up dating back to Sep 1992 during the "On Every Street: Tour GUITARIST SEP 1992 The Pensa Suhr seems to be your main guitar now. How did that come about? "I just walked in there one day, it was the nicest store on 48th Street. I got very friendly with Rudi Pensa and I was very keen that Rudi follow a quality path. And now I think he's so far in front of the others it's not true. And it's nothing to do with me. John Suhr is so talented, and the guitar is just the last word as far as I'm concerned. It's tremendous." Is the story true that you actually sat down and drew the design on a paper napkin? "Yeah, we were in a little coffee shop up the road from Paul's store. I showed Rudi what I wanted and now he gets requests for them from all over the world, For the band stuff it's great - so quiet, no buzzes like the old Strats. On stage, using radio systems, I find it closes the sound down a lot, which I don't like. So the wireless is not as good as a lead for that sound." Do you use other instruments to give yourself a different texture or feel when. you're songwriting? "Exactly. I nearly always write with an acoustic, but if it's tuned to an open chord you will obviously have to write something different; if you stick a capo on it you'l write something different; if I use an amplifier and an electric guitar I,ll write something different again. So that's what I do. I just change the format a little bit here and there so it makes me write differently. "A perfect example of that is Sultans Of Swing. That used to be a completely different tune; I had the lyrics, but I played it on an open tuned National, then when I got the Strat and plugged it into an old Fender Vibrolux amp, it became what it became on record So I think if you've got the creativity to write in the first place, you just need to change, not so much the instrument, but maybe change the tuning or the pitch. Then you might find a you you write something different. Full article here linksharing.samsungcloud.com/gb8NUsR5WcTA

I do have all the social medias. But Facebook is what is required. If I bend the rules for one then I've got to bend them for everyone. Maybe get a Facebook?

Amazing work. I find this a really difficult song to play from a technique point of view but you've done a brilliant job. Thanks

Mind blown! I'm in my third year of trying to learn some basics. This is beyond my comprehension.
It's nothing simpler than practice I'm afraid. If I can do it then anyone can! Keep at it! 👍

Nice. I’d have played it with a pick though.
Then every guitarist in the world would be shuddering and they wouldn't know why. 😊
@@SteveFletcherGuitar I find playing with a pick puts less strain on your thumb.
@@jamesrobert680 and you'd be right. But the internet can't cope with someone playing a Mark Knopfler so without using fingerstyle.
@@SteveFletcherGuitar I reckon playing SULTANS OF SWING with a pick would be ok.
Hi Steve. Great channel. How do I get the tab for this? I've subscribed but not sure how to message with my screenshot 🤔
Head to fletchersteve.com/tabs. All the instructions are on there.
Is it possible to get hand on the backing track
Not at the moment. I record these backing tracks myself but sharing them would open up a whole world of copyright that I'm not ready to enter yet! 😂
hi. are you also using a volume pedal on this one? does he?
Yes and yes. 👍
Great job man I have just subscribed to your channel on here and followed you on Facebook any chance of getting hold of your tab transcripts?
