Since the Chinese shopping app launched in the U.S. a year ago, it has become the number one e-commerce app in the country, with downloads skyrocketing 50x from 600,000 to 30 million in just one quarter, according to Bernstein analysts. In contrast, Amazon's downloads have dropped off a cliff, falling 40% in a year. Known for wild discounts and dirt-cheap prices that severely undercut Amazon's, Temu has ratcheted up its ad spend to infiltrate the American consumer, set to spend an estimate $2 billion in marketing in 2023. This week on Tech Check, we dive how Temu has hit Amazon's weak spots to take the country by storm.

@@edwardr8826not necessarily fake, more like knock-offs/copy like if there's an official Dyson, they've got Thyson, or just a description of the product but the same look of the product (not necessarily the quality)

I'm from Europe. Recently discovered Temu. Ordered a winter hat and was surprised by good quality only 5 euros. Will order again. Never ordered from Amazon it's quite expensive.
The best thing is they don't charge shipping feeds. And refund you a money for stuff that broke or not work.
LOVE TEMU. Delivery to Europe only within 6 days and its FREE no customs nothing, hahaha :D OMG, the best shopping place ever. You can find there literally all essentials, everything. Insane place!!

Well, I have bought many things from Amazon, and 90% of the products are from China and its quality.
Benefits from Amazon: quicker delivery.
Quality, price are way behind.
I'm actually still making a list of all the things that I'll be ordering from Temu.
I regreted having made my recent purchases on Amazon.

There are a lot more selections in Temu than all of Walmart/Target/HomeDepot/Autocare/Ross/99cent Store/Ace Hardware/etc put together.....and they don't come dressed up with the middleman's tags.

What we don't understand is the bigger picture and the effect on America and small businesses. Instant gratification is Americas demise. Think about your children's future if you don't care about yourself.
I notice a lot of ads delivered to me offering Temu with the slogan 'Shop like a millionaire'. I am not a millionaire and I therefore presume that millionaires buy cheap Chinese junk that breaks after the second use.
Shop like a millionaire actually means to shop without being constrained & restrained by the cost of products.
Regarding quality, Amazon isn't any better just more expensive.
It's your choice: cheap things at a cheap price; or cheap things at an expensive price!
You'll still be shopping as a millionaire in one and be shopping as if you were a millionaire in the other!😂
You should do a comparison of the goods on Amazon that are made in the USA versus those made in China, and in other markets.
The result would be like this:

#2.China
#3 Other markets
#4 USA
There are many American brand names and English sounding brands that are not made in the USA nor European countries!

There are virtually two models which are one (#2):
1. Import cheap and sell expensive
2. Produce cheap, export cheap, sell cheap directly and expensive indirectly!
The producer is China and the consumer is the World!
They avoid taxes by claiming there from a developing country. While Amazon has the pay taxes on all orders
You're just hooked on to old stereotypes. The problem with your statement is 3 folds: (1) They are not junk quality by any means (2) they also offer different quality levels with different prices (3) There are no alternatives because the good ole USA doesn't make 'em at such a low price won't even attempt to..

so while looking on temu for example sofa cushion covers, sizes were in metric, also when i was interested the price suddenly was higher when i picked a different color then they were out of many sizes so not to be able to get a complete set. wasted hours not finding anything
Finally learned how to skin the cat. Sell direct to consumers. Greatest idea. Win win. Now get rid of all the dubious aspect of the app, prioritize it's reputability and trustworthiness, prioritize customer satisfaction and confidence, keep shipping cost minimal, root out disreputable sellers, make customer king, secure customer info inviolabity. If Temu can do this, customers from around the world will profess their undying loyalty to you. We just want someone to be on our side.
Smart consumers is all that matters buy and be smart about what you actually need and what you pay for convinience or savings.

Why pay $10 for a phone case from Amazon when I can get it for $2 on Temu for the exact same thing. Yes it took 10 days to arrive but since I ordered ahead of when I needed it, it worked out great. Yes over consuming is soulless... so is overpaying for needed items.

my wife ordered a hoodie, soap draining dish and a cart. the hoodie is so thin and looks like it's "very worn out and stretched. it looked new, but very cheaply made. the soap draining dish are made "so so", but the "suction cups" refuse to stick to the surface. the cart is decent. temu has no chance in HELL with amazon. all the "TEMU" garbage is from a chinese land field .......be assured that "amazon will wreck" TEMU. :)

Everyone is focusing on the price aspect only - where the price is only one element of the sale process... quality of those products are near to zero so if you want to buy a garbage then good luck. My friend from Norway use to say "I am to poor to buy a crap" - there is logic in this, you buy cheap stuff and they break down quickly so you have to buy again or buy the better (more expensive) next time so why don't you buy a better one in the first time?
The point is that the same product is 1/2 price of amazons. Good luck overpaying for items

Temu loses money on every sale. They’re basically trying to gain market share and banking on consumer stickiness when their funds run out.

Temu and SHEIN practice de minimis shipping which avoids taxes, tariffs, and customs/import duties. These two should be boycotted. They also negatively impact our own retailers. Shame.
