He was nominated for five grammys that year and won zero. It was a heartbreaking night for him, despite this iconic performance. I felt so bad for him. He looked so sad sitting in the audience :( They treated him so badly.

They tried to humiliate him. MJ poured his heart and soul into the "Bad" album. And showcased his immense amount of skill on that stage. But, in the end MJ's star was too bright to ever be taken away.

@@honey.brown.nerdrealm They sure did that’s how I knew they wanted to embarrass MJ putting the camera on him as soon as U2 won Album Of The Year and everyone else won all these awards except MJ who had 5 consecutive number 1 hits in a ROW!!!!!! Yea they knew exactly what they were doing that’s why I’ll always stand by MJ he deserves all the shit he been through was so uncalled for they knew no album was competing with MJ’s BAD album so they gave his awards away to other artist and invited him out to perform but it didn’t matter cause he’d go on to sellout Wembley more than any artist ever has or will on his BAD World Tour MJ’s Stardom was too bright for them to dim PERIOD!

This performance literally stole the show, even though he didn't win any awards that night but it was enough to show the world that he was the king. Please also react to his Billie Jean performance at Wembley stadium 1988.

This performance, he was lip syncing until the spot where the mic goes out. That is when he starts singing live! Before this song, he performed The Way You Make Me Feel! He was very upset when they didn't turn the mic on when they were supposed to. Michael is my favorite male artist and I've done so much research on him! Great reaction!

In hindsight it doesn't really matter that he didn't win any Grammys. Because it's like you said, that performance was a spiritual experience, and no award could ever compare to what he did that night...it was everlasting.
And Grammys today are like participation awards given out to mediocre performers.
But it's good seeing you guys and hearing your insights.
    Keep the music coming.

Michael was nominated for four awards for Bad (Album Of The Year; Best Rhythm & Blues Vocal Performance; Pop Male Vocalist; Producer Of The Year). And as you said he didn't win any of them. It is hard to believe, especially since the Bad album had five No.1 singles.

An absolute travesty. Legit. And it was done on purpose to humiliate him. The "Bad" album was very influential to the culture. It's so dumb that they chose to try and take away his pride like that

Mike having black church out there, the microphone was cutting off which made it better! ( You are correct though this was the beginning of the hate for Michael Jackson people started coming for him wayyy before the allegations in the 90s and 2000s people just don't remember, which is why he made the song and great video Leave me Alone which you got to react to also. )

The entire Grammy performance is incredible! This is why he was the king of pop, Michael didn't need a huge stage production to have the entire crowd enthralled (though obviously his stage shows were spectacular) - some of my favourite performances of his are just Michael with a microphone. God, that voice! 😍♥ Another amazing performance that you guys should definitely check out further down the line when you guys get to Earth Song is his Royal Brunei 1996 performance.......beautiful, in the truest sense of the word, and like the Grammy performance, not too over the top in terms of production - just Michael with a microphone, and its glorious.
I will happily second that you guys need to check out The way you make me feel, and just cant stop loving you!! Lets be honest, his ENTIRE back catalogue is amazing and we want you guys to check it ALL out lol, but those two songs are among my favourite songs on the Bad album, love them to bits! Btw, the original version of Just cant stop loving you has a spoken word intro by Michael.......ooft! 😍
*totally agree with Blendas comment about Michael needing more genuine people around him in his life that actually cared about him and his welfare, that werent just yes men who were only around to exploit him and piggy-back on his fame and success, and didnt give a damn about him or his well-being.
Quick word of warning about The Detail btw.......Some of his videos are pretty good and have fact-based information in them, but others (especially more recently) have the tendency to descend into more tabloid-y territory and I know many MJ fans who have stopped watching his videos because of it. Im not saying dont watch it, and as far as i remember his doc on Dangerous is one thats actually ok and reliable (its been a while since i watched it), but please just tread carefully with that channel.

    • @honey.brown.nerdrealm
      @honey.brown.nerdrealm  2 роки тому +3

Completely agree! Michael could just be on a stage talking about his day and I would sit there and watch him with such great attention. He is so captivating and his charisma and his genuine nature is so pure and intriguing.
Hmmm, I think you're the only person to ever recommend that live performance of "Earth Song". I think when we do that live performance of "Earth Song" we will start with the one you recommended! Thank you so much for that!
I absolutely love "I Just Can't Stop Loving You"!!! And I can't wait to show her that song as well! Also, I wish Michael had more genuine people around him that truly cared for him. He had his mother and a few others. But, he was surrounded by such negative people that probably took advantage of him.
Yeah, I don't really watch "the detail" as much anymore. I don't like the topics that they're covering. It's too exploitive and as you said tabloid-y. I just enjoy the breakdowns on the channel of MJ's career when it came to the albums. They did an amazing job on the "Dangerous" era. But, overall I don't really watch the channel as much.
Thank you so much for your comment!

@@honey.brown.nerdrealm Aww I feel honored lol! :D Id love to see you both react to that performance - I know there are other Earth song performances that are perhaps more 'spectacular', but the Royal Brunei one doesnt get nearly as much love as it should for some reason, I think you'll both really enjoy it aswell as the music video :)
Thats great I just wanted to give you a little heads-up, im glad you were aware already :) Yeah The details videos on the albums are usually pretty good, but yeah especially in the last several months his videos have become increasingly problematic - just in the last couple of weeks he did 2 videos on Michaels appearance, and it became a dumpster-fire in the comments with people accusing him of bleaching his skin, not being proud of being African-American and wanting to be white, and his 3 kids being adopted. Just really ignorant stuff thats long since been debunked! And theres been others that have been incredibly exploitative and trashy.
Its so sad that there were so few people in Michaels life that truly cared about him and had his back- like you say he was surrounded by negative people that just saw him as a walking dollar sign and took advantage of his sensitive nature. Im always greatful to the people who DID have his back and WERE there for him :)

Hi honey and brown. Thank you so much my dear friends, for uploading reaction to the most emotional and mesmerizing and moving performances of Man In The Mirror. This was such an awesome and yes spiritual experience to watch - I was lucky be there in front of the TV watching him wow his peers in the music industry. All respect to MJ that night was shown on their faces after the performance. He was sharing his message to his peers with so much passion - this was so important to him. You're right -- this was a time during the negative press and stories to bring down MJ - following his leap to mega stardom after Thriller. There was the move in the industry to bring him down - a controversy about how they would bring down an epic performer so they don't get too far up the scale - part of it being a black performer as well. But MJ was far from the american music industry -- he was loved by many people and respected by leaders and around the world because he wanted more to keep the movement to help and heal the world we live in, end war and violence and live in peace. I love Michael too honey - not more than my husband but still I just love him so much...so I get how you feel. His music and sound is in my head always. I love his vocals and his passion - not to mention performances🥰🥰 Thanks again and take your time -- I so look forward to the Dangerous era reactions. God bless you both and keep well and safe always. 🥰🥰♥♥🙏🙏 King of Pop is forever and forever innocent - Let's continue to keep his legacy alive forever ♥♥

Nobody will ever touch MJ in terms of overall package he had everything an artist needed and everything was uniquely him he truly is The Greatest Music Artist To Ever Live Singer & Dancer As Well Long Live The King Of Music he’ll always be my inspiration😇🙌🏽👑💙💕🌟(Siedah Garrett wrote this song only for MJ and she was begging Quincy to give it to MJ plus he wrote to Man In The Mirror but got his writing credits took off simply to let Ms. Garrett get most of the shine on that end of the bargain and MJ was always in his Prime on top of his game throughout his entire career and in all his performances he gave it his absolute all that is a FACT! And speaking on the BAD album not receiving no awards that night in 1988 that was absolutely the establishment’s “SCREW YOU!” Moment to MJ folks think they started to go against MJ in the 90’s No it started exactly during the BAD Era MJ wanted to Top his Thriller album and sweep the Grammys once again and they weren’t going for it so MJ was nominated for everything but didn’t win anything not even album of the year U2 won it and it’s crazy and yes it was done on purpose cause MJ with the BAD album had 5 consecutive Number 1 Hits in a row which is no easy feat to accomplish yet they gave him 0 awards that night so MJ put on the performance of a lifetime and now nobody remembers anything but MJ’ Performance of that Grammy Night and it is known as Thee Greatest Grammy Performance Of All Time! And you wanna know what’s real messed up he did eventually end up winning a Grammy for his BAD album only a year later in 1989 for Best Short Film with his Short Film/Music Video for his song titled “Leave Me Alone” which is phenomenal of a Short Film they were playing with MJ and sabotaged him out of his BAD albums success but the album is 1000% Forever Influential no denying that especially more than any album that won that night PERIOD!)

Loved it. You can see how amazing of a performer he was and how much soul he would put in every performance.
Honestly, there's more Man in the mirror performances worth reacting to. The ones from Dangerous tour from Bucharest and Copenhagen 1992. But this after some time, of course.
Also if you're getting to Dangerous, I would love to see you guys react to Will you be there performance from MTV 10th anniversary 1991. By far the best choreography he's ever done for this song. And that as well is a spiritual experience. So beautiful. In that same video he's performing Black or White as well. Both are a must react to. I hope you guys will react to that in the near future, as it is a very special performance for me.
I can go on about how much I love your reactions, but you already know that.

I read an article but I don't remember much from it but it said that MJ could have created another 1984 moment (sweeping every nomination) but the academy thought it would be not fair or something like that.🤔 But the bottom point is they intentionally didn't give him any grammy that night. And MJ never returned to grammy since then. He appeared once in 1993 to receive a Grammy legend award, and that was it. He never attended grammy after that.

Such a shame. The "Bad" album is so good! And a lot of important and influential songs were created in that masterpiece. But, at the end of the day it's what matters to MJ and his fans around the world. No award can ever take away the impact Michael had on the world! A true star. A true human being!

He'd had plenty of grammys anyways and he'll be long remembered and celebrated and introduced to new generations for centuries, maybe forever, long after many other Grammy winners have long since been forgotten. Great reaction as always guys! Indeed one of his greatest performances ever and imo THE best Grammy performance in history. However, you commented at 2:57 that his vocals are live, actually his mic isn't turned om before 6:00 after the breakdown, and it's first at that point we hear his actual live vocals. Which are brilliant btw! Everything you hear before that are studio vocals. You can clearly hear they needed a few seconds to actually turn up the volume on his mic before it reached the appropriate volume. That's why we can hardly hear his "I'm gonna make a change" and then " It's gonna feel real good shamone" is a bit louder, before finally the mic is fully turned up. Again, brilliant performance by him:)

If you do the reaction video to "I Can't Stop Loving You," could you maybe do the performance in Argentina? Siedah Garrett (who wrote "Man In The Mirror") was Michael's duet partner during the Dangerous Tour. That night she pranked Michael by wearing a blonde wig during the performance. Michael had a lot of trouble singing the song because he laughed so many times. It's funny to watch the video.
