- The Canon 400mm f5.6 L Series Lens is a fantastic lens for wildlife photographers who like to shoot at this focal length, however the f/5.6 aperture is dark so you will need to be shooting in plenty of light.
Despite it's dark f/5.6 aperture this lens has plenty of plus points: it's not very heavy, it's sharp, distortion levels are negligible, the focusing is fast and accurate, and most importantly of all, this lens is affordable!
This review was completed using a Canon 6D and a Canon 70D and includes sample images and video footage captures with the lens.

I own both the 400mm f5.6 and the 500mm f4. I agree that the 400mm f5.6 is a down right fantastic lens that will provide 80% of what my 500mm can for 15% of the cost. My 12 yr old son uses the 400 on a T5I/700d and hand holds it all day while capturing some amazing images.
Conclusion. If you're on the fence about this lens. Don't be. It is a proper "L" lens and in my opinion is the best bang for your buck lens that either Canon or Nikon makes.
The best review I have found. Very professionally done and extremely informative and watchable. Thank you for posting.
Hi, Can an ND filter be attached to this lens? Thanks
You sound so much like Christopher Frost
Hello. Do you know how this lens works with a Canon RP with EF Lens Adapter or with a Sony A7iii using Canon Lens Adapter? thanks
Love this lens.
I sold my Nikon and Sigma 150-600c to switch to Canon and I bought this lens after many people bragged about it's sharpness. I bought a used 70d and found it to be pretty soft compared to my sigma 150-600c on a Nikon d3500.
That's a shame. There's quite a considerable difference between those 2 lenses, did you miss the focal length range after moving to a fixed length?
very good !!! thanks!
ll this lens work on the basic canon 1100d or t3 ??
Yes it will work.
Very professional review
great video thanks
