Great work Mr. Maniac! That under ice trapping is always a guessing game as to why traps get sprung or never touched. I just caught my first otter of the '23 season on the eastern side of MN under the ice on a bank lodge that runs through my client's hunting land. Nothing better than pulling fur up through the ice!
Great videos man I have been trapping for years but kinda got away from beaver trapping concentrating on marten and fisher but i got bit by the bug again reading a old fur fish and game watching while eating breakfast getting amped up to slang some steel
When you catch a beaver that big & mature you can be certain there are more in the area from other younger generations in its family tree. Male or female doesnt matter when they are that large & old ,it still means more & younger are near by. Beaver almost never show themselves when you have a gun in hand or are looking for them & revenge. (with a fire arm or while setting) when you see a beaver it's usually just a freak by chance happening while you are working on ,walking or doing something else. So I really doubt that anyone could have shot all the others. It just doesnt go down that way as much as we would like it too. Just the fact that this gentleman called & said they are back after he has been shooting at them ,tells me he missed, saw more or just knew there were more. Good video! That place wants castor mounds when the conditions get right.
I watched swamp loggers for a while and the show had bevers in them many episodes. The beavers just destroyed many thousands of miles of forest. They are a pest to me with good hides. Mountain men show also showed problems with them in montana and the diseases they carry in ponds and lakes

Kinda jealous of the ice, we live in central Ontario and we can’t even trust the puddles to be solid yet

I get pretty irritated when I'm asked to take care of a beaver problem, then the homeowner tells me that they've been shooting them.

Why are you killing beavers? what did they do to you
Very destruction
Are you ever worried when setting traps, that a beaver will come and attack you especially when your as close to their lodge and bank dens as you are?
