When I bought my green analogue pocket back in November, I was skeptical it would become anything more than a shelf piece, but wow could I have been more wrong 😂. I now have amassed nearly two dozen gb/gbc/gba games I never had and use my Pocket nearly every day, especially on my subway commute to and from work. The dock also is a must as SNES and Genesis games look incredible on a big flatscreen tv. If you’re hesitant about getting one, take it from a very casual gamer, it is so worth it.

I think that collector is the key word here. Until analogue stops artificially limiting stock, these consoles are going to remain in the domain of the collectors and wealthy enthusiasts. I personally have enough money to be able to afford an analogue pocket second hand, but I can't, on principal, purchase something that I know is fundamentally excluding a large portion of the market for the sake of hype value.
Isn't Analogue a tiny little business that does this for their love of classic games? $220 USA dollars is not too expensive considering what you get. Some of the extra peripherals are expensive though.

They used to sell these at $200 and then it went up to $220. So Analoue needs to charge $450 for these or take out a loan to keep these coming. For instance, the Playdate was never limited like the AP. If you wanted one you could order one and you would be added to the queue, receiving it when it was your turn to. At this point, I don't think anyone has a problem with the selling price of the device from Analogue (though we probably should recognize that it's overpriced in reality). when they release a run of 500 every 4 months and do almost nothing to prevent scalpers from botting the stock out, they're complicit in the $400 price that it really costs to buy one second hand on eBay. Here's the business model that Analogue works on, which most people don't seem to realize: The rarity of the product and limited runs artificially turns the AP into sort of speculative investment and allows Analogue to justify an overpriced product when compared to the bill of materials. Think Nike shoes, as another example... because of the way they've released there shoes and the speculative market which has popped up around them, Nike can sell shoes that cost $4 to make for $250 a pair, because people realize that they could turn around and sell them for more. The shoes aren't for enjoyment and wearing any more, but for the possible return on investment. The upshot is that the only people who win in that system is Nike, wealthy collectors, and highly motivated scalpers. The average guy doesnt buy Nikes anymore. When I was in school you could buy a pair of SBs for $60. Now they can go for $500 on stockX. It's an intentional, and unethical manipulation of the supply-demand curve. Analogue is participating in the same thing, and in the same way. By artificially limiting stock they can sell what products they do produce for a very significant mark up over the cost of manufacturing, because it makes people FEEL that it's an investment. And again, Analogue, wealthy collectors, and motivated scalpers are the only people winning out, not the average guy. And here's the kicker, there's no way to know people at analogue are also buying and scalping the devices... They may or may not be. As a counter example, Funny playing produces an fpga Gameboy color kit for around $80 all told. Admittedly the quality isn't as nice, but as a proof of concept it shows that Analogue could make their product about half as expensive, while maintaining it's quality, if they were willing to deal with economies of scale.

Get yourself a Brother label maker and add some neat labels for the adapters- that’s what I did. I also use it to add English language labels to all of my Japanese import game boxes/ cd cases. They come off without damaging the cardboard boxes.
i love my Analogue Pocket! You can play GB, GB Color, GBA, Game Gear, Turbo Grafx-16 Cards, Atari Lynx & Neo Geo Pocket on 1 handheld! Just amazing! Another Amazing thing is the Game Gear came out with a Master System Adaptor to play Master System games on the go! That adaptor works on this Analogue Pocket! It doesn't look good as it is a Game Gear Adaptor that connects to the Analogue Pocket Adaptor & then connect that to your Analogue Pocket! But it works Awesome!
The Sega Gear Master Adaptor is called: "Gear Master Converter Adapter Model GG-001" It attaches perfectly to the Analogue Pocket Game Gear Adapter! Just attach to Analogue Pocket with both Adaptors connected & boom it starts right up. SEGA Master System in the palm of your hand!

It might be a premium product but it doesn't have a premium storage option. They need a box or stand that neatly stores them with good labels so that you don't have to mark them.
Very well done! I was looking forward to this video. I 100% agree about the Analogue Pocket being a Collector's Dream Console. What held back many of the portable systems from back in the day was the screen. The Analogue Pocket fixed that. The game just look AMAZING! I have the Game Gear adapter for my AP and I have discovered so many great games for that system that I missed out on. I am definitely picking up this adapter set. The fact you can play all these games on a TV via the dock is outstanding. I also like how Analogue is committed to the system and continues to support the system with routine software updates. Thanks for the video and enjoy those games! BTW I would love for Analogue to do an, "Analogue Nomad". An Analogue portable with the amazing screen of the Analogue Pocket, landscape layout and the ability to play Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, Sega 32X and Sega Master System games on the go would be beyond epic.

Man I remember my dad randomly getting me an analogue pocket for Christmas the year it came out, I wanna say I was probably 8 and didn’t even know it existed since I was too busy playing my game boy color at the time. It was a very impressive handheld system though!
What's the difference between this, and a POWKIDDY or ANBERNIC?, being the fact you need to constantly change cards to play a game. Not too mention with some big bloody card sticking out the top of it. Good luck getting that, in and out of your pockets. I can get the same thing from my Powkiddy, with changing cards or cartridges or carrying a box full of games with me. For me this thing is pointless.

While this is great, as a collector i can say that no, this is not a dream console - atleast for me and to some extend. Sure, its great to be able to play these games in such a modern form, but at the same time, part of collecting is also collecting the consoles themselves. So while this does not serve as a replacement for any console, and while i, myself, enjoy playing on original hardware a lot more than on these consoles (most of the time), its still a great piece of tech!
On the one hand, it's an insanely cool device and I love that it can play so many old systems with real cartridges. On the other hand, there are far more capable devices for a small fraction of the price. I wanted an Analogue Pocket when it first came out, but now I'd rather have a Miyoo or something. It's a weird world we live in.

The handheld PC Engine was the GT, the LT is more of a tabletop machine, plus my favourite piece of retro tech.
