Well done for leaving that in. What a fantastic lady. I think you felt a bit uncomfortable in front of the camera when your misses was speaking about mental health. You probably realise that you are helping people out with your videos. Well if you didn’t, you are. Your videos are naturally calming with your voice and they way you explain things. Stay safe Paul and your family. Don’t be afraid to talk mate.

Well said jo, I know exactly what it’s like Having a mental health condition myself.
Your right, us men don’t talk about it and bottle it up.
Both Paul and yourself have inspired me to get out and start my hiking adventures all over again.
Hopefully I can do it without getting to much anxiety
Love the videos Paul, thanks for everything you do for the walking/hiking community

My favourite part of the video is when you and Jo sat down and had a bit of a heart to heart. I have been working from home since March 2020 and it seems my daily commute is from the bedroom, to the bathroom, to the kitchen to my desk and a a daily zig zag between these locations. That and the colder weather of Canada makes getting out for hikes a little more of an ordeal but we are all in this together. Love your videos Paul. You have a calming voice and speak about hiking and camping at more the level of the average person. Some of these people who hike 6 months at a time is not something I can relate to. You are very relatable. Keep safe and keep up the great work.

Thanks for uploading Paul. We used to live just opposite Morrison’s in Hillsborough and regularly walked the dog along Rivelin. We had to move to Staffordshire for work but my wife especially loved seeing Rivelin again and made squealing noises every time she spotted a familiar rock or tree haha! Mental health chat with Jo was honest and important too so thanks for keeping that in; something we can all reflect on. Stay safe and keep making videos. Would love to bump into you on a walk one day when normality returns to say thanks in person.

Hi mate. New subscriber here. Loving your stuff. Some points very close to my heart here regarding mental health. Four years ago I had a cardiac arrest and ended up in a coma, turns out ive got a rare heart condition that was lying in wait. 18 months later I had another and the implant Id be given didnt work as expected. Back to hospital and under the knife. Ive always been a tent camping fan and love being outdoors, and was working on getting into wild camping before all this happened. My confidence in myself has long since gone and though ive always been predisposed to some mental health issues it all really hit the fan after my troubles. Now in lockdown its like a pressure cooker. Your videos, content and presentation are a fantastic way for people to enjoy the outdoors vicariously through your efforts and you must give yourself that credit. Another thing men aren't great at is accepting achievement, and you've achieved alot in your efforts on here and you must see that effort in the bank of positivity whilst we're in the mire of lockdown. Take care and take it easy and thank you again

Came searching for this video after you mentioned it in a more recent one. Thank you for sharing your feelings about lockdown. I know exactly how you feel and also recognise how hard it will have been to decide to leave that section in the film. I am so glad you did. One of the thing I really appreciate about your channel is your honesty. Another is Jo - please do keep making appearances Jo, it is so rare to hear a womens point of view on camping/walking videos and you often represent those new or a little hesitant to begin - you both, between you make this backpacking/wild camping world seem so much more accessible to those of us who would never have considered it before - Thank you. Cheers for mental health discussion. Not alone. I also didn't talk about it for my entire life. But my wife and friends picked up on it during lock down and encouraged me to see my GP. I ended up breaking down while trying to explain everything to my GP. Not being able to escape to nature and explore something new has been destroying me and my ability to cope. Our state is looking to reopen national parks this weekend, so I'm looking forward to getting back out.

Thanks for another fantastic video Paul. We had a lot of the same concerns during lockdown about being out longer than an hour etc, but came to a similar conclusion to you guys, using common sense and being responsible. I thoroughly enjoyed leaving the car at home for weeks on end and discovering new trails and paths locally. We are about a 20 minute walk from Malin Bridge, and every day as we walked we commented how incredibly lucky we are to live here. As far as mental health goes, the black dog does visit, but taking it for a walk as someone commented before (I shall be using that phrase, just brilliant) has helped me in so many ways. Keep up the great videos and maybe bump into you out there at some point. Thanks, Mark.

Well done, going for an occasional walk like this has approximately zero risk of spreading or catching coronavirus, and approximately zero risk of using NHS resources for any other reason.
The statistics are only just coming through showing that a large proportion of excess deaths in recent weeks are due to causes other than coronavirus.
Taking care of your mental health is a cornerstone of a happy life.

Clearly your 'rock' and she says it as it is. As others have said Mrs M talks about MH openly and I guess you felt a little 'reserved' when she was talking about it. I notice you make a passing reference to it in other videos but fair play you could have edited the content out when she talked about how it effects you so well done to you both for leaving that in. Brilliant!! A great natural video of you both enjoying a walk in a beautiful location.
I don't feel you should feel guilty about a walk from your home. It may have been a little longer than the recommended hour, or so, but as long as you kept your distance from other people I don't see the problem.
Nice to meet your other/better half.
Like you, looking forward to getting, properly, out and about.

Fantastic video Paul,, for 2 reasons,,
1, great to see such a more natural different style of video from you m8,, and 2, I spent my childhood and youth in and around Rivelin, was great to see it again,,thank you, 👍👍

That area is downright gorgeous. It's so odd to hear you aren't allowed to be out for more than 1h (in Denmark we just need to keep the 2 meter distance and crowds below than 10).
Being out and walking makes wonders for ones mental health. Keep it up!

Riverlin valley used to be my play ground as a kid. I lived up Stannington for 18 years of my life.i didn't recognise much but funny enough there was a stone that look like a big ramp into the stream on the left that I remember very well as I tried jumping it on my bmx. It didn't end well. I must have a walk up one day with the family. I still live in Sheffield (Deepcar). I often visit Lock stock gun shop at mallin bridge. Anyway another excellent vid it was nice to see and share your walk. 👍

Paul , that was a great video. You’re making me all nostalgic, I love the Sheffield/Peak District border. Me and my dad used to walk up through Stannington woods, right up to Bradfield and round the dams. And then a cheeky pint at The Royal in Dungworth 🍺😊

Thanks Paul for keeping those extra bits in. I think you will have connected even more on a personal level. Lockdown is important but our governments need to allow us to use some common sense. Unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who may not know what common sense is. I also enjoyed the history lesson and the reminder of how beautiful the uk countryside is. Greetings from Canada.
