Connor's inability to understand how a visual novel works with multiple routes and endings, and how adapting that just becomes a clusterfuck due to essentially adapting the same game 3 times without it being clear to people who have never played the source material, never ceases to astound me. I get that he just thinks it's bullshit and to be fair it is, but what Garnt is explaining is really not difficult to grasp lol
If this video is 1 year old and garnt video came out 1 month ago then you can say it took him 11 months. *But* in this video, he said he is preparing for a month so that means it took him 12 months (one whole freaking years). (Why am I even analysing this?)
Yeah when you're that deep into the fate franchise then you can understand what they're saying, and they're not even talking about the spinoffs and connor is already confused lol
Connor: Things kinda got high concept on me pretty quickly Garnt: You think this is high concept. Let’s talk about the Moon Type-Moon fans: You be quiet about the Moon
Despite what scientist say the Moon is indeed made of cheese not rock and dust, this confusion is in fact due to the type of cheese it is made of that cheese being Parmesan.

Considering that it was out in the year 2006 it was quite good and although it's not the best from the series, it certainly have a special place in my hearth because that's the first one that I decided to watch and it was Saber's route
@@blackchase6732 it's not. It is said that Nasu originally worked on Illya's route but then it was scrapped. Kaleid is a completely different spin off.
Fate isnt as complicated as people make it out to be Edit: I wanna share my opinion on this bc the reply section is a warzone. this will be brief bc i dont wanna spoil anything for newcomers. My take is that choose: fate/zero or fate/stay night ubw. I prefer to choose fate/Zero bc it gives an understanding of the character of saber and why certain characters are in ubw. (AFTER ubw watch heavens feels no matter what. NOT before) ubw is also really good but in my opinion it can be a better experience by the help of zero. (dont watch the movie. watch the show by ufotable) fate stay night deen 2006 is how i started and it really is mediocre. It explains the lore the best but mostly is bland throughout. if u can push through it, go for it but i wouldnt recommend. The ones i mention above are main timeline and it should be one of them as for how you get into fate. the spinoffs dont explain a lot like Fate/Grand Order or Fate/Extra last encore. Note: the visual novel is a good answer but the unavailability of it plays a key factor and the commitment of being on it for a 100 hours will bother people since you can finish the main shows in less than 30 hours. (including deen it would be 42hours) Thats it . I commend u for reading all this
The real problem is that whenever someone tries to explain that it's not complicated, they also try to explain how people made it so complicated, which always ends up making things seem complicated lol.
As someone who started with Carnival Phantasm, I still thought that show was funny even if I never knew about any of the characters. And then as I slowly immersed myself in everything fate/nasuverse, all the jokes slowly clicked, until finally, I got every single one of them. Now I just want my Herc Summer Lancer Class that uses Cu as his Weapon with Boomalancer as his NP.
The problem of FSN adaptation is the nature of FSN as a visual novel. Nasu created a phantasy world and the purpose of FSN was to describe this world. As a visual novel, each route of FSN reveals a fraction of this phantom world, so there are many plots in one route which are not explained properly at that moment, but will be echoed in another route in this game. This brings a special experience for the players. The best way of watching fate is fate (06) -> fate ubw -> fate HF. You will see the change of emiya shirou and how he deal with the problem of idealism.
Yup - it's like with Tsukihime all over again: gotta start with original route first and then immerse slowly. Seriously, I know there's some weird Fate Zero thing where they watch that but, for me, it's unnecessary. The fact that people want some kind of express version or "How-to" defeats the purpose of the original media - it's meant to be an exploration of a universe not a complete story in itself. It's like saying describing everything in the Old and New Testament but skip out all the boring bits. On another note, I have immensely enjoyed revisiting Fate-Stay/Night by following your exact route: Fate (06) -> UBW: Movie -> UBW: Tv series -> Fate: HF. In fact, it made me revise that I am more of a Rin fan than a Saber fan but, deep down, the Fate route has always been my preferred route.
Me who never watched nor read anything about Fate, but are reading fanfiction about it and unironically starting to understand fate franchise *My goals are beyond your understanding*
Just so you know if you've read that shit about Zeltretch being a massive troll is fanon. He's actually only on screen shown being really nice grandfatherly type and helping people out. The author has said he's similar to Jotaro Kujo so he probably has a strong sense of justice.
Just so you know, don’t ever say this on any of the major fate forums like Beast’s Lair or the fate section of Spacebattles. They would tear you to shreds for saying that. That being said here are some common fanon that arose mainly due to fanfiction. Common fanon: - Shirou can use Avalon: He cannot it must be powered by Arturia’s own od - The world rejects Shirou’s projections: A common misconception is that the world naturally erases Shirou’s projections. This is not true as in the VN Shirou has a convo with Rin and mentions his projections only fading when they break. -Gaia hates humanity: This is also not true. Humanity are her children and planets have no concept of hate. Primate Murder only exists if Fou is exposed to the worst of humanity and Gaia only orders the death of humanity in Notes due to humans outliving the planet and living on its dead corpse. -Archer uses a suicidal sword style: This arose due to the internal monologue of Archer during the 2nd Lancer vs Archer fight where he uses fake openings to counter Lancer’s speed. This is only a technique that he has notably used against Lancer. To cut the long and short of it this style is only able to work due to the type of fighter that Lancer is. -Shirou has amnesia: In Heaven’s Feel there is a scene where Shirou goes to the park and walks to where his old apartment was and remembers fragments of his old life before suppressing it. It’s not that he doesn’t remember it’s that he avoids thinking about it to avoid the pain. There are others but these are some of the big ones I see in fanfiction that were proliferated by fanfiction authors like Third Fang, Parcasious, and Gabriel Blessing.
@Joonatan Isoaho The worst part about the fire isn’t his loss of everything, rather it’s the fact that that singular event defines everything he does on into infinity. It prevents him from being able to see his own life as something valuable on its own and makes him believe all his worth comes from his ability to help others.
@@IvPunisherG tsukihime is a series that is part of the nasuverse (the same cinematic universe of which the fate series is a part of). It doesn't focus on the holy grail wars tho, it mostly centers on vampires and demon hunters.
personally I like Fate and Emiya more though I only finished Arc, Ciel, and Akiha routes as of yet. Want to get back to it and finish it up at some point. If I were to rate my favorite Nasuverse stuff it'd probably be F/SN at the top followed by Kara no Kyoukai, Zero, Tsuki, and Mahoyo (though like with tsukihime haven't finished mahoyo since the patch is only up to chapter 8 right now).
Ryan if people are too lazy for the vn, atleast do release order for the original stories, UBW>HF>Zero. It's really that simple, I don't get how people can be confused about such a simple thing. It's not like people get confused what order to watch YGO seasons.
@Chipo Bh It's because it spoils the biggest plot twists in Heaven's Feel. I started with Zero then UBW and then Heaven's Feel. I only realized what people meant when Zero spoiled Heaven's Feel after watching the second movie. The impact of the twist is not that big to me since i already knew, but at the same time i'll probably be very more confused about /Stay Night if i didn't watch Zero first. But i still thoroughly enjoyed it. Now i've watched the spin-offs except Prisma Illya and is already 1 year stuck at Gacha Hell.
Chipo Bh because it's a prequel by nature, Zero spoils far more of UBW and HF than vice versa. Zero was written with the knowledge you'd get from FSN in mind and doesn't use make those "twists" important, while the opposite isn't true. Though I'm honestly more pissy people won't sit down and read the damn VN. It's not even that long if you don't go hunting for all the bad/alt endings. People binge shows all the time for similar time frames.
@Chipo Bh It's just a matter of enjoyment of the Plot progression and story. I mean you could enjoy Fate either way, i know i did. But i think it was a wasted potential of a plot twist since it didn't have any big impact on me since i already knew the twist due to watching Fate/Zero beforehand. I kinda regret it but i also kinda don't.
I've been into Fate for over two years now and I still have so much games and shows of it to play and watch. I love it though because you can never get bored of the franchise.

Deen stay night was my intro to this series as it was airing back in 06. Its flawed sure but it makes me sad people are treating it like "that which does not exist". It has redeeming qualities. I still want an ufotable remake tho
@@MrInuhanyou123 I found it ironic, people are labeling it the worst, when it was the one that started the fate boom back then. Now FGO is financing all new projects.

The only way to understand fate is to quit understanding fate. If you do you will reach the state of enlightenment which is the understanding of fate. If you can manage to do that and stay interested than welcome to the fate fandom where everyone is salty that they didn’t get their favorite jpeg on fate/salt order.
Funnily enough I watched the first Fate/Stay Night series, the studio deen version, because I mistook it for a different anime which I was trying to find on youtube, I dived headfirst in and explored the fate franchise on my own and now I am a quite avid fan of this series, I was also lucky enough to have never had to experience the toxicity of the fandom as I didn't even know it existed, so I definitely side stepped a huge bullet there. I also became a huge massive fan of the expanded lore because around two to three years ago, I tore my achillies tendon, which made it practically impossible to walk and travel, so when the holidays came around for my school, I stayed home and watched Fate/Extra gameplay for like a full month, thought it was sick and by coincidence found F/GO, and now I absolutely love this series, with it being my favourite anime series. So maybe because I decided to walk that trek alone, I found it much easier to understand the fate series, and as a result, I have never understood why it was so difficult to understand it, maybe it was because I watched everything and organised it in my head so its and ever present force on my thinking, but I really found it weird when several of my friends just gave up because they couldn't understand fate, but to be fair I have written nearly a thousand words of text trying to explain it to them so I guess it is quite complicated... so now I go back to just enjoying the series alone, like the good ol days
I have watched everything from fate and i'd say the best order is. Start from whatever you like it does not matter you will understand it either ways and as for spoilers, you won't understand the spoilers and when the time comes you'll forget it

Posted this on the main video, so I figured why not repost it here. How to watch Fate Long Version: 1. Highly recommend to start with visual novel, cause it's undeniably much better than the anime adaptation (no offense to Ufotable, but oh dear Studio DEEN). 1 (alternative). If you're not a fan of reading, then start with F/SN: Unlimited Blade Works. Then move to the to F/SN: Heaven's Feel movie trilogy. *DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WATCHED ZERO FIRST UNLESS YOU WANTED TO BE SPOIL OF HEAVEN'S FEEL.* 2. Watch Zero 3. Pray that Ufotable will make a fate route adaptation in the future. 4. Fate/Hollow Ataraxia. The continuation of F/SN. Only available as a visual novel. From here on out, it's just going to be the spinoffs. So proceed at your own accords. 5. Fate/Kaleid Liner: Prisma Illya. The closest spinoffs to the original F/SN in regards of the character and setting with best FBI agent Illya as the main protagonist. This is arguably the hardest to recommend since it starts very bland and boring, but trust me, it gets incredibly amazing in the latter stage of the series. There's three seasons of the animated series as of 8th August 2020. 6. Fate/Kaleid Liner: Prisma Illya Sekka no Chikai. The movie of the Prisma Illya spinoffs which preceded the animated series. Shirou became best boi 7. Fate/Apocrypha. Took place in an alternate timeline of the 4th Holy Grail War. Instead of the traditional 7 servants, there's 14 servants, seven on each side as a team (black and red). 8. Fate/Extra. One anime adaptation, that follows closely to one of the main girl's route, title Fate/Extra: Last Encore. 9. Fate/Prototype. Nasu's original take on the F/SN series, where the main character is a girl and Saber isn't a gender-swapped. 10. Carnival Phantasm. An alternate joke universe of F/SN. 11. Emiya-san Chi no Kyou no Gohan. A fate cooking show, in which best housewife Emiya Shirou showcases his superior cooking prowess. *The best Spinoffs bar none.* 12. Fate/Grand Order. Obviously the gacha game. But since they got so much money from the wealthy whales, they decided it's best to just skip on the first 6 singularities and just adapted the 7th straight away, Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia. It doesn't matter anyway since only the 6th singularities and so on are actually any good. Although, there is an ova of the preludes titled Fate/Grand Order: First Order and a movie of the 6th singularity, Camelot, coming up. 13. Fate/ Strange Fake. Light novel series in which a holy grail war took place in America. Kind of similar to Apocrypha with the whole two side of servants theme. 14. Continue with other nasuverse story. Search it up yourself cause I only promised to talk about fate specifically. Short Version: 1. Just don't, that's hell you're walking into.
Fate/Extra doesn't have an anime. Only Last Encore had an anime and it's a different thing that's technically a sequel to the original game's Nero Route.
As a person whose favorite video game series is Kingdom Hearts and actually understands the majority of it, none of this is actually confusing. It's just a lot, but pretty simple tbh. Guess all my time researching convoluted media has provided me with the skills necessary to jump into any clusterfuck of a series now. LOL
How to understand the entire fate franchise and its fan base: Watch Zero, unlimited blade works and heaven's feel to understand the franchise.... Then rob a bank $2000 to get through the main campaign of Fate Go to understand the fan base.
3:54 I got into the first fate stay night long time ago when netflix only did dvd renting. I didn't know it was widely regarded as a crap version. But it made me a fan of the fate series.
I'm pretty certain that the timeline branching starts when archer is summoned. In the fate route, archer is the Unknown One, basically the only one that doesn't have his name explicitly stated. In unlimited blade works he is fate route Shirou, and because of a thing called resonance of like souls he accidentally feeds his skills and instinct and such into UBW Shirou. This is also known as *contradiction* . In heavens feel archer is UBW Shirou, and hopes to use contradiction either push heavens feel Shirou further away from being a hero so he doesn't become a counter guardian, or kill them both through the resonance shockwaves. But with E-rank luck, this plan was about as likely to succeed as shirou's mental state. That is to say, it was doomed from the start. At least, that's my personal headcanon.
The problem with starting at Zero is that it actually spoils a lot of things. Like, Sakura and Rin are siblings, which is only revealed in HF. Gilgamesh survived, which ruins the twist of the story. Zouken's plan (HF), etc. And you won't understand what happened to the Grail, you won't understand why it was evil or something, it only gets explained in HF.
Its true but its still enjoyable never the less. Because most of it only plays in the HF route. And by the time you reach HF route (after reading Fate&Ubw) you dont really care
If you care about the story, just watch the original fate stay night. Just sit through it once cuz the story is really great then after that you could go to the one created by ufotable. This problem would really be easily fixed if Ufotable just adapts the Fate route already.
@@redroman4214 if they didn’t adapt it first, they probably won’t ever. Honestly this would all just be fixed if they released a localization of the original visual novel
But that’s what makes it such a good stand alone. I tried unlimited blade works first and had zero idea what was going on. But in zero, it’s mostly a self contained story.

Its not hard to explain to people outside of the fandom. People just focus on ALL the wrong stuff and overcomplicate shit for no reason. Most of these series are *completely* independent of each other. You can watch ANYTHING and understand the lore. The common link is just the world. You don't need to understand saber to enjoy fate. Mahoyo is a story that details the backstory of one of the Nasuverse's big side characters, Aozaki Aoko. Lastly, Kara no Kyoukai/KnK - The Garden of Sinners in English - is the tale of a young woman struggling with her murderous impulses while working for a detective agency that investigates paranormal activity. Of the three, only KnK has a good adaptation (Ufotable's first Type-Moon work). You can thank KnK for why we have so many Fate things these days. Takeuchi's love of the original KnK novel caused him to reach out to Nasu and offer to support Nasu writing full time. That eventually grew into the establishment of Type-Moon and the publication of Tsukihime as a doujin work. Fate/Stay Night came off of Tsukihime's success, and while DEEN might have butchered the Fate adaptation, Ufotable did a great job on the KnK adaptation films a year later. That's probably why they managed to snag the contract for Fate/Zero, which they did a phenomenal job on, getting a better adaptation of the UBW route. Fate isnt as complicated as people make it out to be
Edit: I wanna share my opinion on this bc the reply section is a warzone. this will be brief bc i dont wanna spoil anything for newcomers. My take is that choose:
fate/zero or fate/stay night ubw. I prefer to choose fate/Zero bc it gives an understanding of the character of saber and why certain characters are in ubw. (AFTER ubw watch heavens feels no matter what. NOT before)
ubw is also really good but in my opinion it can be a better experience by the help of zero. (dont watch the movie. watch the show by ufotable)
fate stay night deen 2006 is how i started and it really is mediocre.
(including deen it would be 42hours)

Instructions unclear. Started with Prisma Illya Season 2
As someone who started with Carnival Phantasm, I still thought that show was funny even if I never knew about any of the characters. "this is too many Sabers!"

Me who never watched nor read anything about Fate, but are reading fanfiction about it and unironically starting to understand fate franchise
*My goals are beyond your understanding*
Just so you know if you've read that shit about Zeltretch being a massive troll is fanon. He's actually only on screen shown being really nice grandfatherly type and helping people out. The author has said he's similar to Jotaro Kujo so he probably has a strong sense of justice.
sorry to say that’s not really how it works...
"fanfiction" of course..haha of course "fanfiction" *wink wink*
Just so you know, don’t ever say this on any of the major fate forums like Beast’s Lair or the fate section of Spacebattles. They would tear you to shreds for saying that. That being said here are some common fanon that arose mainly due to fanfiction.
Common fanon:
- Shirou can use Avalon: He cannot it must be powered by Arturia’s own od
- The world rejects Shirou’s projections: A common misconception is that the world naturally erases Shirou’s projections.

Implying we've ever stopped shunning people for starting with Zero.
As a wise man once said "Secondaries gtfo"

Ohh garnt, you've been working hard innit

How to watch Fate
Long Version:
*DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WATCHED ZERO FIRST UNLESS YOU WANTED TO BE SPOIL OF HEAVEN'S FEEL.*
2. Watch Zero
Shirou became best boi
*The best Spinoffs bar none.*
Short Version:
1. Just don't, that's hell you're walking into.
I’m about to watch all of them/ read. Playing the gacha game
Fate/Extra doesn't have an anime. Only Last Encore had an anime and it's a different thing that's technically a sequel to the original game's Nero Route.

3:54 I got into the first fate stay night long time ago when netflix only did dvd renting. I didn't know it was widely regarded as a crap version. But it made me a fan of the fate series.
Agreed
Into the Fate-verse, there's multiple different versions of some of the characters.
I deeply regret not starting with the VN. What a journey.

Superhero comics fans: you merely adopted the messy timeline I was born in it
I had zero idea of the sheer popularity of Fate when I started Fate UBW on a whim when I saw it on Netflix and now I’m to deep

"Q (Dyumi): Can Sakura in the other routes (FATE and UBW) live just like ordinary girls? Even if
she doesn’t run out of control like in HF route, I’m worried about how the insects affect her.
N: ……….
T: Why are you silent?
N: ……....
T: Say something!
N: Believe in your dreams.
"
@Chipo Bh tsunderes are overrated
YOU START WITH DOUJINSHIS
WHY IS IT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?!
Dam i gotta step up my game. I've been on that stage for the past 3 years and still only know padoru, someone dressing up as a bear, pink hair gotta dick, and three names saber, lance, astolfo.
@@schwi7021 type moon fans in a nutshell
Roman Noodles there’s doujinshi of padoru?
I started with the Mash and Jeanne Alter doujins and still know little.
@@Zack-fu4lo depending on the season, and the ones you look at, theres padoru in the endpages. Its not actually the doujinshi its just there
Fate/Zero: Prequel
Fate/stay night: Saber route (more known as the Fate route)
UBW: Rin route
Heaven’s feel: Sakura route
And that’s it really, that’s how you understand the lore (and yes, it used to be an eroge)
Actually the truth
Watched UBW about 2yrs ago and liked it a lot. The other ones really didn't click for me and thats cool. UBW is all I needed.
and the eroge is the best(with the patch that removes the H aspects)
@@destinyblade1167 people bitch about erotic parts, but sex one is actually cannon, The one where sex was removed is a "sellout" version.
@@Zeon081 personally speaking I'm like CDawgVA. If I want to jack off I'll look for something to Jack off to but if I want a story I only want a story. I prefer having a sense of separation between the two.
Besides to me the H Scenes in FSN are just comedies because Nasu can't write smut(Tsukhime on the other hand was traumatizing)
First time getting into Fate: WHY IS THERE SO MANY SABERS
Now after catching up and playing FGO: YES, THERE IS ANOTHER!
@Super Aventail you're quite far back, we're on Caster Artoria already
@@naganata2994 we have artorias in all different classes

"I don't want this many sabers"

Saber bad ne no like
saber faces are specifically manufactured as easily digestible content for plebs with white bread taste
I don't want this many sabers, I WANT MORE SAKURAS !
I wish there were as many Ushiwakamarus as there were Artorias
i am saber fan, and i still think that all of "heroine X" "alter lancer" and other are not needed, and making other Servants saberfaces also - it takes both from their and artoria's character
can we get an Ufotable remake of the fate route? that would just solve everything.
Yeah it would fix the watch order. If they remade the fate route people can now start at fate, ubw, and than hf. After that they can watch zero.
Won't happen. Ufo said they respected the Deen adaption.
@@destinyblade1167 at least they can reboot the fate route with nasu current writing skill.
Nah, enough fate, we need tsukihime.
@@sebastianswan7975 tsukihime never got an anime adaptation which is sad
Me before understanding the fate franchise: WTF is that, it is so messed up
After understanding fate: ohh its is just simple af
Yeah once you get in, everything will actually make sense.
I eventually just came to the conclusion that only thing that cannot be changed in Nasuverse is Akasha. If you have Akasha - it is Nasuverse.
yup, i feel the same way too
Pretty much. Shit seems daunting until you just jump right in, get into it, and boom! It all makes sense.
I know
Uninitiated anime fans: "The Fate franchise is confusing."
Gundam franchise: "Allow me to introduce myself."
Can this man be one of my peapol?
The gundam franchise is nowhere as confusing as the type moon verse dude. You just split into UC or non UC.
As someone who has watched a fair amount of fate and who fervently finishes 0079 and zeta gundam, gundam is much easier to get into assuming you can find a way to watch it
bruh, I've been following Gundam since I was a kid and I STILL can't tell you fuck all about how shit works
@saber 1616 Uuuuuhh.....I think I should just stay away from fate and it's Gacha hell. But I will watch those 3 or 4 adaptations that Gigguk and Joey just recommended to know about it's universal lore. And the first adaptation as well.
"Women are like Pokemon."
Gacha games
Lol
I think people make this way more complicated than it actually is.
Is not that hard to understand when you get inside the fandom. The problem is that is just really difficult to explain for someone outside of it.
Not that hard to understand but difficult to explain
Its not hard to explain to people outside of the fandom. People just focus on ALL the wrong stuff and overcomplicate shit for no reason.
Most of these series are *completely* independent of each other.
You can watch ANYTHING and understand the lore. The common link is just the world.
You don't need to understand saber to enjoy fate. You don't need to understand any of the main cast to enjoy the other series. You don't need to understand Tsukihime. You don't need to know all three routes.
Everything is perfectly enjoyable by itself. Stop making it seem hard.
Is not that complicated for God fucking sake all you had to tell is to watch the main universe of Fate and then watch the entire summarization of each route.
Comic book universes are way more convoluted then fate and people easily understand those.
Gigguk 2019: *Do you want the short version or the long version*

Tsukihime, Mahoyo and KnK: 'Most people don't even know we exist huh?'
One day
What’s that
The Nasuverse is a beautiful, terrible mess
@@ericchoi1515 Tsukihime is Type-Moon's first VN, about a vampire, a boy, and his ability to see 'the death of things'.
After that... well, the series had a LOT of momentum behind it.
(This doesn't get into the Extraverse adding momentum, either. Which it did. While Fate/Extra was considered 'Not bad, but a bit clunky gameplay wise', Fate/Extra CCC was considered to be one of the better games released for the PSP)
