I honestly can't get mad about this album. Yes, it's probably the most flawed and unmemorable (for the most part) out of The Pillows' first three albums, but you can tell they were making an honest attempt at creating a good first album. It has some really good songs like "Ame Ni Utaeba", but they feel buried under a sea of tracks I don't like and skip when listening to the album in full. Despite my gripes with album, it has good, memorable cover art, something The Pillows has been good at even since Pantomime, and I really like the dreamy aesthetic/reoccrance of rain this album has, which gives the name "The Pillows" a bit more meaning, something that was sort of lost on later albums by them.
I like the earlier Pillows more in some ways, they seemed to be experimenting a lot and had seemingly a different "sound" every album. Around "Happy Bivouac" they cemented their sound to what it is today, but these earlier albums are gems to me just because of the experimentation.
I haven't listened to the entire album yet, so I'll get back to you on that. Call me a scrub, but I personally prefer their last album REBROADCAST. But comparing their style here to their last is so weird, it's like listening to a different band.
To sum them up Pantomime, Moon Gold, Please Mr. Lostman, Little Busters, Happy Bivouac, Runners High, Fool on the planet, "Thank You, My Twilight", Penalty Life, Good Dreams, Lostman Go to Yesterday, Trial, FooL on CooL Generation, and Rebroadcast. Well, chronologically in a way, but it's only through albums I recognize (And yes, how I discovered them was through FLCL, I am that person).
