An interesting detail to note: beyond taking a second longer to steady himself upon landing, many of Vergils strikes either become slightly longer, or slightly shorter, with some ends strikes that happen simultaneously swinging ever so slightly further around. This implies, if only slightly, a refinement of his technique, since most of the swings he increases the swing radius for had already put him far beyond normal guard positions, so if he's already going all out for a swing, there's no point in failing to put his full force behind the swing. The strikes he takes longer for might be ones he considers safer to continue doing for a moment longer, while ones he shortens may similarly be ones he considers unsafe to keep performing for too long, or he may simply have gotten faster at performing the same number of strikes. Small details, but if you assume them to be deliberate, it creates an interesting unspoken storytelling opportunity.
I prefer the feel for DMC5, it's so much cleaner. But the anime style of 4 is pretty sweet too NGL...I'm not a huge fan of all the lighter blue in 5 tho, I wish the colors were just a tad darker but im just nitpicking
It's probably because dmc5 Vergil is evil no longer in the end, so that's why his color scheme is a bit more lighter. Looks really sweet, I prefer cyan Vergil. I do miss darker voice line of dmc3/4 tho
@@ErectusEnormous Or maybe its him resonating with the force edge, his father's power. Vergil was always known to be more sensitive to that stuff, and we know that in dmc1 the power of sparda was represented by dark red colorations. This is what vergil could have been, and how he would have conquered the underworld from mundus. That's why dante went with him this time, so he wouldn't be alone again. The same way dante had his mother and father with him to stand against mundus, in spirit, so too is dante with his brother to heal his heart.
11:02 I think that explains why in DMC4, summoned swords are gigantic. For the purpose of this taunt, Vergil uses a summoned sword and DMC5 Vergil uses Mirage Edge (he event puts his hand on the blade).
I enjoy the subtle changes in Vergil's movements in DMC5. It really makes it seem more realistic having a character's limbs slightly move in certain ways (obviously). It really made me reappreciate the advance in technology to allow for such subtle animations to be commonplace in games that take the time

My only complaint in 5 is that Summoned Swords/Mirage Swords don't pop out as much and don't have as much impact as in 4. It's especially apparent how they leave a "shockwave" as they shoot really fast, and how Heavy Rain really stands out in 4 unlike 5. Otherwise everything is mostly improved!

Design wise its pretty smart changing Vergil purple and Dark coloured Special Effect's into bright blue one for DmC V. Purple Effects will not pop out especially in high speed or LDK mode bright coloured effect in a dim light and DMC V enviroment will Pop out and nice Visual cue. Lore wise shows Vergil no longer draw powers and Motivation from darkness anymore. His Yamato is bright blue and cut the dimension itself, not purple and looks pretty heavy, his beowulf no longer producing purple lights, and of course the F/M edge. Well basically FE is your everyday Sword without the perfect medallion it can't do jack shits, basically all the crazy shit Vergil produce his moveset those black aura's is his, now M.E is his demonic power materialize, like his usual summonned swords but longer to fit his heights and reach, in conclusion both F/M edges is using vergil own demon power, so yeah.. unlike his usual black aura in force edge brighter effects for Mirage Edge makes sense, shows vergil new brighter path.

There's similarities but DMCV is much more refined and Vergil seems much more into his swings, even if it's a fairly subtle movement. I think that's cool
I gotta be honest, with the Summoned Swords i like the look and animations of DMC4SE more than the DMC5 ones, in DMC5 they're smaller and loose a little impact when you shoot them.
For me personally, both have their upsides. Mirage Blades doesn't have the speed blast effect (the white smoke and sounds). That does sound less impressive physically, but it has the benefit of highlighting the magical, ethereal, small-yet-deadly nature of the spectral swords.
It goes to show how much more refined he is in DMC5. I’ve seen people complain about Vergil seeming slower with his movements in DMC5, but if you notice, Vergil is actually using less movement while achieving the same amount of speed and attacks. He’s actually refined his style where he’s wasting less movement and achieving maximum results. This is exactly the thing that Martial Artists strive to achieve in real combat. Operating from a relaxed state, commanding 100% of his power, striking with complete efficiency, with little to no cost to his stamina let alone energy. If anything, Vergil has gotten faster and more at ease with his capabilities.

Man the DMC 5 devil trigger for Vergil truly is an ultimate evolution of that original devil trigger designed by the boys at Atlus for the collaboration between DMC 3 and SMT 3.
Oh I had no idea that they were held differently depending on armor! I was taught to hold it the dmc 5 way. Probably because no one wears armor in martial arts!
I like the concentration mechanic dmc5 added not only does it add to the vergil gameplay to make it feel different from the rest but just character wise it makes sense since Vergil style was always about speed and precision cuts to do the real damage
I feel that both DMC 4 and DMC5 Vergil are great in their own way. DMC 4 Vergil being the youngest version of course he is flashy and faster, while DMC 5 is the oldest version more matured in character and more subtle not as flashy. And Capcom probably has noticed DMC4 Vergil is way too op for DMC4 so probably made DMC5 Vergil less op to balance the game.
Man, they really did that JCE justice in DMC 5, but I do miss the amount of wind-up it had in DMC 4. Made it feel so much more satisfying if the attack landed. I also really hope Rising Sun will be its own move again someday in a future DMC
They really nailed the aesthetics of DMC5 vergil to the DMC5 world. But I prefer the DMC4 design... it seems anime-esque and over the top, which Vergil is. I also like the stark contrast of Vergil really being the "blue" brother, while Dante is the red one. They toned down the colors for DMC5 for aesthetic reasons so I do get it. What I do love with the DMC5 design is, is the judgement cut end. It's just a little more "extra" than 4, but the big thing is the cracked screen. Reason being is, in DMC1, I remember reading the description for it, that it's so sharp, that it's able to cut through anything, even space itself. And it was just that cool. That's why in the DMC5 judgement cut end, it's so fascinating to see it actually cut through time and space, and then reality comes crashing down after sheathing. Amazing design.
I would pick DMC4 for the sound effects and animation because how impactful every hit is I would pick DMC5 for the design and hit effects it was an upgrade overall from DMC4 Overall i would still pick DMC4 just because i really love how impactful the sound and animation is
I would pick dmc4 for the color, Vergil's attack VFX usually blend with Vergil's outfit, dmc4's outfit will create more attack color variety for the attacks, take lunar phase for example, dmc4 outfit has mint blue, yellow and DT version has purple and blue to compliment for the outfits, while dmc5 Vergil's attacks color stays static because of his almost black blue outfit, thus only blue, white blue, white to compliment dmc5 vergil, not that dmc5 Vergil is bad it just boring to look at especially with dmc5 game itself lack of color
I really like how Vergil slowly awakens his inner Dante and then remembers that he is supposed to be the "serious" guy. His *M O T I V A T I O N* slowly gains the upper hand, maybe, just maybe we'll get to see him woop Mundus' ass for what he did to him if he returns in 6. I'd love to see it happen, especially if he'd team up with Dante.
I have a feeling DMC6 will take place in the underworld where dante and vergil find an underworld castle that belongs to Mundus, it could bring back that dmc1 type feel. Could be 11 missions for dante and another 11 for vergil so half a story mode, unique levels and bosses for both dante and vergil
@@canontheory my theory is Vergil and Dante get split up and Nero finds a way to the underworld to try to save them, then in the middle of the game they all meet up in the same area, thats where they encounter the final boss, which I really really want to be a somehow ressurected version of Sparda thats being controlled or lost their memory.
But the anime style of 4 is pretty sweet too NGL...I'm not a huge fan of all the lighter blue in 5 tho, I wish the colors were just a tad darker but im just nitpicking
it makes sense that force edge is light blue cause its literally a giant summon sword, vergils summon swords are already small force edges
It's probably because dmc5 Vergil is evil no longer in the end, so that's why his color scheme is a bit more lighter. Looks really sweet, I prefer cyan Vergil. I do miss darker voice line of dmc3/4 tho

Or maybe its him resonating with the force edge, his father's power.
Vergil was always known to be more sensitive to that stuff, and we know that in dmc1 the power of sparda was represented by dark red colorations.
Vergil channels a dark purple aura at times in his attacks.
What's the mixture of red and blue?
Purple.
It really made me reappreciate the advance in technology to allow for such subtle animations to be commonplace in games that take the time
He’s also clearly enjoying it more

It's a neat change. It makes him seem less aggressive, since he's showing the back of the blade to his front, meaning he has to make conscious effort to switch his grip and draw to cut things. Seems more fitting for Papa Vergil.

There are more effects to the slashes in dmc5 with higher concentration

I would pick DMC4 for the sound effects and animation because how impactful every hit is
I would pick DMC5 for the design and hit effects it was an upgrade overall from DMC4
Overall i would still pick DMC4 just because i really love how impactful the sound and animation is
I would pick dmc4 for the color, Vergil's attack VFX usually blend with Vergil's outfit, dmc4's outfit will create more attack color variety for the attacks, take lunar phase for example, dmc4 outfit has mint blue, yellow and DT version has purple and blue to compliment for the outfits, while dmc5 Vergil's attacks color stays static because of his almost black blue outfit, thus only blue, white blue, white to compliment dmc5 vergil, not that dmc5 Vergil is bad it just boring to look at especially with dmc5 game itself lack of color
notice he's actually holding his katana the right way during idle in dmc5, with the sword curving down instead of up
