I had the honor of hearing Sandra speak at my Protestant church in Provo in the ‘70’s. I was BLOWN AWAY by everything she revealed to us. It changed my life and kept me from joining Mormonism. My pastor cried tears of relief as he spoke with her afterward because he felt validated regarding all the hardship he faced in Utah County.

Thank you for recording and archiving these talks by Sandra Tanner. Even as never-Mo, who lives among the Mormons in Idaho, I have watched every episode of Mormon Stories, and I've grown to love Sandra, her knowledge, her memory and her sharing character. Thank you John for all the episodes and stories.

I'm a never-Mo but I live in Mesa, AZ so I'm surrounded! I so appreciate what God has done through Sandra and Gerald to share the truth, save the lost, whether Mormon or not. Gold bless her and I look forward to meeting my brother and sister in Christ on the other side! I hope to see John and Margie among them some day!

Sandra, thank you for your and Jerald’s ministry. I visited you in 2019 on my move from Austin to Boise and asked you what you would recommend when we got visited by Mormon missionaries. I bought 2 copies of that booklet “41 Distinct Teachings of the LDS Church” along with many other free pamphlets you suggested. It was only this year that we got to speak with 3 young missionary ladies who stopped to talk while I was putting our Christmas tree in the stand. They were very nice and clearly sincere but suggested that I would find no contradictions between the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I affirmed them for their putting their faith into action but recommended that if they were approaching Christians, they might want to confirm their assertion about similarities to Christianity. I gave them a copy of your booklet and to aid them in their research. I also asked them that if they ever came to doubt the claims of Mormonism, that they would not automatically toss out the Bible with the Book of Mormon, but instead would test both by the same strict standard called for in Scripture. I’m praying God will encourage them to engage with your insights and open their eyes to clearly see the differences and then test both as a basis for what they believe.

Sandra could sue the LDS Church for slander and liable for the years they told lies about and demonized her. Even if she only got acknowledgment of their crimes against her, it would be nice.

About twenty years ago while researching at The University of Utah Marriott Library Special Collections I met both Stan Larson and D. Michael Quinn. While I checked out the papers of Fawn Brody and David O McKay, Stan Larson told me that McKay did not trust BYU and his Brethren to properly curate his private papers so he made sure that The U of U retained such. My impression from Stan Larson was that he agreed with McKay’s point of view. I still retain Stan Larson’s business card he gave me. Glad to hear he is still with us as he turns 77 in February.

I met Curt Bench through Walt and used to go up to his bookstore when it was on Rio Grande. I found him to be a wonderful bloke. I talked to him briefly about his experiences at Rare Books at Deseret and talked to him a lot about books on Mormon history, some of which I, a Gentile, bought at Benchmark. I never asked him about Hoffman. The only 1830 BofM I ever saw was one Lynn, who worked at Seagull, brought down to show Walt.

I wonder what I would have thought, had I known all of this stuff at the time it was going on in the 70’s. It was during the time I worked in the church offices and was making a lot of the same conclusions but by watching the back door hypocrisy of the inner workings of authorities in how they treated the working people in the church headquarters. My faith was eroding by the manipulation going on in the name of Devine inspiration of priesthood leaders to their members. I suspect I would have left the church even faster than I did - but the guilt and anxiety I had over it would have dissipated faster.

Much like the Grinch, my heart grows 3 sizes every time I see Sandra or think on the work she and her husband have done for humanity. Her courage, honesty, and tenacity are only rivaled by her openness, warmth and loveliness.

I’m sure someone has mentioned that Wes Walters and his family had (and died of) cardiac complications of MARFAN syndrome. It’s an uncommon but serious genetic disorder. Very sad it is so devastating to families who carry this genetic problem.

Can you please change the spelling on on your video summary for Mark Hofmann? You have spelled it "Hoffman", but his actual last name is Hofmann, one f and two n's. It makes a difference to me and others with the last name of Hoffman. We don't want people to associate him with us. Thank you.

Tons of respect for the Tanner's today. I just find it interesting that they had the cojones to face the faith of their ancestors. They practically stood alone against one of the most powerful Religious organisations in the world. Stood their ground and exposed the Genie behind the curtain, and yet....instead of applying the same courage to Christianity itself, they jumped into the fire. To each their own I suppose, but I would love to have seen that same drive, and dedication applied to the whole of Christianity too. To me it seems like jumping from the LDS faith right into fundamental Christianity is akin to jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Great interview! She doesn't look like a "scholar", but what does a scholar look like?

I'm always a little surprised and honestly disappointed when an ex Mormon intellectual person deconstructs Mormonism but joins another religion 💔 Just curious if Sandra has spent time investigating the Bible and Christianity with as much vigor as Mormonism?

She has. And there is a lot of robust evidence for the Bible and Christianity. The case for Christ is an excellent resource. As well as I don't have enough faith to be an atheist by Frank Turek. Highly recommend.

I admire Sandra, but I wish she was as critical of standard Christianity as she has been toward Mormonism. She would find the same problems exist with both religions.
