An absolutely perfect video. May I add some personal memories. Working for madame we had a private access to the coastal path which her son used when he went diving. Often the family would share the fish he caught for Saturday lunch. There is a second gay encounter spot which you forgot to mention and our garden overlooked it. Madame was always intrigued why she could see naked men wandering around. I met Alan Searle in my youth; had lunch with him and a group of friends near Bournemouth; the first time I ever ate lobster. He had a private table at the la Reserve, Beaulieu, which was dressed with his own china when he dined there; he also tipped generously all the staff. I once visited Blenhiem Palace with someone extremely close to Alan and the guide was showing us a chair saying it was one of only two in the world and Roland perked up saying yes I have the other one. As I draw towards the end of my life memories become more important; thank you fror reviving so many.
@@MeandMonAmi My lover at that time was introducing me to the world of the rich. Unbeknown to me they jokingly told me that Alan would expect me to kiss his hand. When we met he was old and not in the best of health so held out a rather limp hand and it was only the laughter in my ex-lover's eyes that made me aware that I could shake his hand rather than kiss it.
The stutter story man so effortlessly brushed away from his villa by Maugham was Patrick Leigh Fermor. Another fascinating character and for me the greatest travel writer of the 20th century! !
No..I cannot think of anything worse than being couped up in a modern cruise ship with hundreds of people, it gives me the absolute horrors! As usual thank-you for your pristine documentation of your walks beautiful and inspiring as ever.
I adored this video! Thank you for this glorious walk around my favorite part of the world. I actually requested a Somerset Maugham story after watching your Gordon Bennett video and I got my wish! Thank you, absolutely gorgeous ❤️
Brilliant ! You’re such a great storyteller, and of course a fount of wisdom.. Who’d have thought a Yorkshire lad would be telling me all these snippets about a place I e lived in for years?! 👏👏👏
Loved the story about Somerset Maughan. What a life. I’ll try and remember that quote for any future unwelcome house guests lol. The views on that path are amazing. Thanks for a brilliant video Tim. 🙏
Thank you for your new video. It is always very pleasurable to walk with you and Mr Boo. You bring your walk alive with knowledge of days gone by. Lyuba and David.
Your videos are the best Tim!! Sorry to be a bit of a geek La Cote d'Azure was coined by Stephen Liegeard in 1887. He was a poet and was into Parisian literary politics (what ever that is) He also liked to be known as the Godfather of the Cote d'Azure because of this. Not looking forward to the end of these walks they are absolutely brilliant!! Brian
We’ve so enjoyed watching your back catalogue of vlogs, beautiful production and a great story told. We spent a night in January camping in our little van on plage du passable a few years ago, the little toilet on the beach was a lifesaver 😂. It’s such a beautiful beach especially in the winter when nobody is there. We went back in the summer on our motorcycle and it was absolutely goosed ( busy) so we moved on. Thanks for the great videos ❤
@@MeandMonAmi I don’t think you can, we arrived under the cover of darkness and parked by the wall, at the bottom of the steps you walked Down Left early the next day.
I must admit I came here for the Ami because it’s such an intriguing little car. BUT, I have thoroughly enjoyed all the videos, the walks, the scenery, the photography and the views. I love the tongue in cheek comments and the common sense Yorkshire attitude in such a glamorous and sometimes fake environment. I love the tiny villages perched on the mountain tops and the absolutely fabulous food. I also love the fact you tell us how much it is!! Brilliant. I’m now trying to work out a way to drive my new ish Citroen C3 down there or even brave such a massive journey in my little 1991 Renault 4 Madam Valerie!! Now that would be epic. Even simpler than Elton. Anyway Tim and Mr Boo, you’ve grabbed my attention and I’m looking forward to lots more wonderful videos!!
Hi Tim, Another great walk. We've done this walk a few times but usually from the East and around. But yet again you bring so much more to it with the back stories you share. Thanks again!
I recently discovered your channel and am quite enjoying it. As for cruise ships...as a recovering sailor (as in sailboat), I never expected to be attracted to cruise ships. But like anything else, one size does not fit all, and if you find a match that fits your needs, then cruising can be quite enjoyable. Interestingly enough, we have cruised many times with the company pictured in this video and aboard that very ship and will continue to do so. Smaller, in this case, is superior to a floating zip code.
I would go banans on a Cruise. Nothing for me I'm afraid. Thanks for highly entertaining stories of the rich and famous. When I was twelve I wrote to Maugham. I was so proud , I had read an entire novel in English, Maugham's Mrs Craddock. He sent me a photograph of himself in profile with a dedication! I was quite shocked. To me he looked a hundred years old and very stern looking.
Thanks for another great tour. Cruise ships in VF? We’re not keen - the sheer numbers just overwhelm & the cruisers don’t seem to bee having a good time judging by their expressions! Maybe its different on board ship? Paul & Ali
I was able to visit Villefranche for a few hours on the afternoon of Nov 12, during my week in Nice (I took the train from Nice). While there, I thought of trying to contact you for a visit, but decided you were likely too busy editing your video for the next day's posting. It was my first trip to the Nice area, and I've been missing it already!
Fabulous! I think this is my favourite of your walks to date. So quiet and peaceful. How long did it take ? As always stunning scenery and entertaining tales. What happened to lace up your boots - has it become passé 😄.
Hello from San Francisco, California. I found you today. Following your hikes will be my next trip to France. Are your scripts downloadable? Do you sell them in PDF form so I can print them out here at home. Do you mention humble housing for 2-3 weeks located in an area convenient for following your hikes. It’s been a real pleasure finding you on UA-cam. Thank you for your excellent videos. Fran.
It would have been very nice to see the scenery of this town more.. I hate to say it but 98% of the video the camera is facing directly in your face we are not really seeing any of this beautiful seaside town....
Your storytelling is false. Maugham & Haxton came to the US, early '40s, and Haxton died of alcoholism in D.C. while Willie worked on "The Razor's Edge," in the Carolinas.

Just saw the second half of your comment. The Searle stories are fascinating.

Only just discovered your channel, this is better than most tv documentaries.
Have visited someone I know here, so was especially interesting!
Thanks Anthony!
I studied a couple of Somerset Maugham's short stories at school 30+ years ago ('Rain' and something else), so I enjoyed that wee bit of history. Ta.
Thanks Ewan. He was an interesting and rather complex figure
Love your videos

Glad you are enjoying. Yes the Lizard Of Oz as Noel Coward called him had quite a stern look!
Wonderful.
Thanks Fred!
Absolutely right all the way , only u could do it

Another good episode, thank you - didn't get the Yorkshire reference, but I did live in Pocklington (north Yorkshire) for a while.

Flat Cap Ferrat? You could have a Last of the Summer Wine medley with Mr Boo. 😉🤣 Foggy, Compo or Clegg - or Nora? 😉
I think he’s a Foggy!

Vanity o vanity...we're stuck w his idiotic MUG ! A sorriful video.
Must be a trully dissapoint walking between walls! Too many private villas. Thanks for the extra information 😘
Cruise ships !! I live part of my time on a small island in the Caribbean - they are an abomination but to be without them??
It’s one of those conundrums!
Where is the casino i nearly wet myself :). looking forward to next week.
Thanks Brutus!
Now don't be heading out on Ilkley Moor without your hat, Tim.
No way! Never leave t’house ba’tat!
Are rent boys as freely available as they were in Maugham's time. ? I assume
they are more expensive these days.....? Inflation is a curse..!
Not a clue!
