  • On our journey home with the bus we experience a break down. The Parking brake diaphragm decided it did not want to play anymore and gave up on us.

Me too, they just have great body lines and look cool going down the road.

Im not an expert by any means, but I once heard of an instance where a bus wouldn't air up. However, when an auxiliary compressor was hooked up to air up the system, once up to pressure or there abouts, the bus's compressor would take over on its own. Just a thought. Good luck!!! Keep us posted!!❤❤❤

Thank you for that info. We do have an auxiliary compressor; it was just not hooked up. We could also tell the bus compressor was pumping air, and did a few tests with the help of Luke at US coach to find that it was the diaphragm. Here are the tests we did.
If you can safely work under the bus, pinch off the brake line going to the back of the chamber, one at a time.
If the leak stops, that is where you need a new diaphragm.
If you can't work safely under the bus.
Start the bus, push down and hold the brake release valve, make a full depression of the foot brake, while holding the valve down.
Continue to hold the valve down and accelerate and watch the air gauge.
If the gauge comes up it confirms the same problem.
Since we will already be under the bus fixing at least one diaphragm, we have ordered the parts to replace both the Service and Parking brake diaphragms.

Just saw your comment regarding the parking brake diaphragm, so disregard my previous comment. Good luck!

Until you are able to make that happen, there are several Facebook groups dedicated to Vintage GM buses. Also, a great UA-cam channel to watch is @BusGreaseMonkey
