One thing I’ve been wishing for is the option to download just what you want from the romsets. I hate having to download the entire giant file just to spend a ton of time deleting games I don’t want. Which is about 90% of it.
Have you heard about a program called clrmamepro? It can help you achieve precisely what you're looking for. With clrmamepro, you can upload a custom dat file, which is essentially a list of the ROMs you want to keep. The program will then scan through all your ROMs and keep only the ones on the list while deleting or moving the ones you don't need. It's an incredibly useful tool
Hi All. I'm in the process of building my first arcade cabinet and installed a mini PC with Batocera. This is all new to me and am trying to learn. I'm stuck at not being able nor understanding how to map the control panel buttons. It's 2 Player with 6 buttons on each side. I just want to be able to play good old classics i.e. DK, PacMan, Super Cobra, etc, and am lost. There are no issues with using a Bluetooth device that the seller of the Batocera SSD added. Any suggestions? I can't seem to find much help on YT. Thank you!
I have followed this but none of my games show up. Not sure what the problem is. Only 2 mame games show and those came up when I uploaded the v35 bios.

I'm running a preconfigured Batocera image on on my Pi and I can't figure out how to access the MAME setup menu in-game for setting dip switches etc. Any clues?
Why do I keep getting a error message "Warning Audio Sample(s) Not found" when loading the games that need the files in the samples folder? I copied the samples folder to the roms/mame/mame2003plus folder like you show in this video. I even copied the samples folder to the rom/mame folder and bios folder.I'm using Batocera 32 and have the MAME Emulator set to Auto
I figured it out I was copying to rom/mame/mame2003plus that I created instead of bios/mame2003-plus now all the game audio is working fine. In other words I was not paying attention to what you were saying in this video, I guess it's like us dudes not reading the instructions on something and just wining it or doing it how we see fit.

@@BatoceraNation yea i have done figured out with mame.. just forget about being up to date.. this is perfect if it works it works.. now I have to just super trim down this set and I will be golden. I am so glad i moved over to SFF pc's from a raspberry pi. You can do so much more. Batocera is where its at. I came across a sweat deal on these 2 Alienware Alpha R2's. One has a i7 6700t and a gtx 960.. perfect for a little emulation station. I can run PS3 stuff on it fairly well. Just want to say I appreciate your videos and your lil intros are excellent. The history bit at the beginning is a great lead in and your instructions are clear and easy to follow. Thanks Man

Is there a way to have both roms sets installed and functional? I followed this great guide for the mame2003plus roms and then tried to add the mame2010 roms and then those would not work until i removed all of the mame2003-plus roms and samples.
Wrong romset perhaps? Did you select advanced system option and try the diff emulator and core options? Have you got all bios files needed? Theres an option within Batocera that lets you check for missing bios files.
@@joe96787 Launchbox didnt work either? Perhaps the roms are corrupt? Are they kept with original file names? You didnt rename them? Cause they wont work if you rename the zip files. Perhaps try with a windows mame emulator? Have you used those roms before and have they worked on something else? Otherwise perhaps source them from somewhere else. Not sure what else to suggest.
Love the content my friend, I have been watching everyday setting up my batocera! My wife thinks I'm nuts! haha. One question I have, I downloaded the 2003 MAME that you provided, it's huge! Is there a more compact version of MAME? There are a ton of games I will never play and there are so many duplicates. Just didn't know if there was like a "best of pack" that can be downloaded? And can I delete the dups without it messing anything up?
Unfortunately, there's not a more concise one since everyone has different favorites. But you can delete the games you don't need. I only have about 100 games in my collection. The rest I deleted. Glad that you are enjoying Batocera.
If you download via torrent, when you begin the download in your client (I use Vuze) you can manually select which files you want. Keep in mind though, it will be confusing to look at so double check that you know the file names you’re looking for to check them into your system
Do you know of a way to setup retroarch to ask which station to "insert a coin" at start up?For arcades like the simpsons, TMNT, Sunset riders, etc where each station was a different character. I know manually how to change the controller port once the game is loaded. But is there a setting that can ask when the game is started?
I tried Mame chd files in the Rom folder of Mame but it does not work. Even put them using a separate folder for each game, same it does not work too. What should I do?
Mame is very picky. If you don't have the correct ROM sets, it's not going to work. No matter what you do. The video explains the correct ROM sets that you'll need and where to find them.
Usually not. In any OS its almost always added as a sep system. But its easy, simply drop your neogeo zip roms in the neogeo folder (dont rename them as they wont work then) The names like most other arcade systems will be shortened but once you scrape some artwork and the XML gamelist is created you will see the game names will be displayed normal. And dont forget to put the neogeo zip bios file in the bios folder. If games dont boot also copy the bios to the actual neogeo rom folder. For settings all default should work but you can still go in and change as necessary. Also from memory I dont think there is a choice for emulator option as I think it uses the FBNeo Libretro core. Note you also have a neogeo CD folder for cd games.

Hello there! 👋 Thanks so much for your videos. They are extremely helpful. But I have a question (I'll try this make it short) I've set up 2 different Batocera installations. The 1st was set up on a 128GB SD Card. This was mainly a proof of concept installation just to see how Batocera worked while I was waiting for my new SSD to arrive. The 2nd is set up on a 2GB SSD. This is to be my main Batocera drive where I'm going to install as many games as I can. On my 1st set-up, I did not follow your instructions for setting up Mame. I'm not sure what Rom set the Roms are from, but a many of them didn't work (understandable, seeing as I likely used the wrong Rom set). I put the Roms inside the Mame Roms folder, but they were not in a "Mame 2003" folder. However, I downloaded Mame Bezels from The Bezel Project and they worked! 😁 It took a very long time to download, but I now have individual customized Bezels for many of the games such as Donkey Kong. On my 2nd set-up, I carefully followed your instructions for setting up Mame. I downloaded the correct Rom set and placed the Roms in a Mame 2003 folder inside the Mame Roms folder. I've scraped the Roms and every single game I've tested seems to work great! 😍 However! The problem I ran into is with Bezels on my 2nd installation. I downloaded Mame Bezels from The Bezel Project, but this time the download was really quick. For some reason, it only downloaded generic Bezels. None of the games have individual customized Bezels. I'm not sure exactly what I did wrong, but I'd really like to get these Bezels working. Does anybody have any ideas or help? To me it seems almost like The Bezel Project is having trouble "finding" my Mame Roms 🤷♂️ Although Mame itself seems to have no problem finding the Roms 😁👍
Hello I have question. I installed batocrea with my laptop and connected a external monitor. And it was working I hit a button that wont allow me to use the monitor the screen just black but the laptop shows a Batocera. Can some one help?
For mame roms that need CHD files create a folder for each CHD file, and those have to be named the same as the zip counterpart, put each CHD file in its own named folder. For eg Killer Instinct, the zip is called kinst, create a folder caller kinst and put the kinst chd in that folder, not the zip, just put the chd in that folder. Then simply transfer both files to Batocera's mame rom folder. You need to do that for each game that has a CHD file. Also dont forget to try diff mame cores for running as performance can vary depending on the game. So you can also set core per game.
I’m using my arcade joysticks that I built from my arcade machine . It uses a arcade USB encoder for MAME . I mapped out the buttons and it works fine in the menus(frontend) but when I load the game none of the buttons work .
I installed batocera v35 and got the whole bios set version for batocera v35. It took me 4 days to completely get mame 2003 Plus, because where I live my internet sucks. Unfortunately I still can't get any CPS2 games or neogeo games to load. Also when I try to install batocera v35 into a USB stick or micro sd card that's more than 32gb, I keep getting "error loading" messages when I try to boot it.
Hello Thank you for this tutorial. Concerning the Mame O78 plus emulator, my up button does not work. Only for this emulator, the others, everything works. I tried to download the first file but my laptop crashed half way through. Now lynux won't launch. I've had nothing but bad luck trying to get my own retro system up and running.
anyone know if/how i can change a game to allow 3 or 4 players? examples are like xmen, simpsons, tmnt... some games say the coin slot is locked and wondering where i can find settings to change it. thanks in advance!
@@hamowl5794 have to find the version of the game (rom) that allows the multi players and ensure it plays on the appropriate emulator. i was able to find the xmen game that allows six players and also found the four player Simpsons. good luck!
Each rom folder has its own images folder, once you have scraped games its created. So you can put images in those, but dont forget each rom folder has its own. However you may have to add the image to a game manually the if you do it that way. To do that long press X (or A depending on your controller type) on the game and scroll down to advanced game option and edit metadata, scroll down to the image tab, browse and locate the your image, scroll down to save and select that.
Hello! I'm new to Mame and Batocera but I've been tinkering with an i7 HP Elitedesk G2 Mini and been having a blast doing so. Mame, however, has given me the most problems getting games to work. I'm trying to get games like CarnEvil and Area 51 to run but all it does it kick back to the game selection menu without booting. I've tried both zip and chd files as well as changing the Mame emulator in the advanced options. No success. My Batocera build is 37, the most current one. Is there any chance I can get help with this? Even smaller stuff like Zaxxon won't run. Out of a dozen or so games I've tried all I've got to work is Alien 3 the gun and Arkanoid...
Hello nice channel 😘... iam so hugged on the Batocera system that i had to buy a ryzen 5 pc to run all the games... iam still amazed that some ps2 and gamecube games only run on 12 fps while most of them runs at 60fps... my questain is... can you get Mario Kart arcade to run on Batocera?
Do you mean Mario Kart Arcade GP? If so, then no. It's a special one and it's not built into Batocera yet. It's a great game and maybe in the future it will work on Batocera.
For those that dont boot just try setting a diff core option for that particular game only. You know how to adjust settings on a per game basis right? Long press X or A depending on your controller and select advanced game option. If no other mame emu option works at all perhaps its from a romset that are just not compatible at all with those that are provided with Batocera.
i'm using batocera 35 with the retrofix theme. for the life of me i can't find the game options more or less the edit this games metadata or delete the rom. driving me crazy. i switched to carbon yet still do not see this option anywhere.
When a game is highlighted long press on the game with your A or X button on controller, (depending on your button layout) This will bring up an advanced game option tab There you can edit, do per game setting rather than system wide emulator setting, or delete a rom.

hi im new here, just asking..so we just need sample file and rom files to make it work right? so the other files such on the torrent doesnt need to be download right?
The sample files are needed for a handful of games I beleve. And then the actual rom files (would be in zip format). Some also may need chd files. That why mame can be a little finicky to get right. Then there are rom versions. But if you follow the video guide here in this video you should be OK.
I don't know why this happens, but a few of my roms don't have proper names in the MAME menu, but just their filenames, which are somewhat nonsensical. How do you change that? is there some file deep in the backend I have to change?
If you scrape the games with sceenscraper it will rename the games for you. The only problem is you can't tell which games are USA, or Japanese, etc. All games with the same name will get the same info.
Not that I know of. So if you have a mame game that also requires a chd file you would create a folder and name it the same as the chd file, and put the chd file in that folder. You also need the zip file for the rom too which should also have the same name. Im sure you already know that. 🙂
They should work and you can place it inside Mame but they won't show up as separate systems. However, some themes have them built in as separate from Mame and so you would just add them in their folders Cps1, etc. within the roms folder. If your favorite theme, doesn't have them separated, you can do it manually. Here is a link on how to do it. You can also place them in the folder fbneo and it should work. I also believe that Theme "Next Level Remix" has it already built in and so you would just copy it into their perspective folders in "roms"

Try a diff emulator option for that particular game when in Mame. Try another libretro core or the Mame stand alone emu. If that doesnt work perhaps you need a diff version of that rom, from a diff romset. Google is your friend.
My vertical shooters are all stretched out. I've messed with the overall settings but nothing changes. Is there a per game setting? In the future, I will be making a only vertical cabinet. Is there a way to rotate the screen?
For my future project, I found the screen rotate option. I didn't notice this untill I updated to the beta. Now i have a new problem. In the screen rotation options, there is no default. I can't get it back to normal. I tried auto but it stays the same rotation. Any help would be awesome.
Thanks. I found out that if you open main menu, game settings, and set game ratio to config, it will use the correct ration for each game. Thanks for the help.

Most of the top and classic games are found in both of them. Finding the right romset is more difficult. So whichever of the two romsets you are successful in finding, I would stick with that one.

Do you have the bios files needed ? Make sure you have all bios files (namely the neogeo.zip file for neogeo) and place them in the bios folder. And dont rename the neogeo roms, they must keep their original abbreviated name.
@@fonzitheman I've sorted it now. I needed a different set of roms. I do have all the bios files installed but I think it was the roms themselves that where wrong. I needed .bin files but i had .rom files inside the zips. so they wouldn't work. Thanks anyway
Don't extract MAME roms files. Keep them as zipped. They are supposed to have a bunch of files. That's normal, but you need to keep them zipped or they won't work.
Is there a way to add CHD MAME games? I can't find any for version 0.251 of mame (I have to run batocera 36 because it's on steam deck). I just wanted killer instinct! The zip file for that game won't open so was looking for CHD. If anyone has tips I would greatly appreciate it.
Some games for mame need the chd file as well as the zip so if you have a mame game that also requires a chd file (like KI and KI2 for eg) you would create a folder and name it the same as the chd file, then put the chd file in that folder. You also need the zip file for the rom too, so the folder with the chd file in and the zip file should have the same name. I have KI and KI2 running fine this way. Depending on what version roms you have you may need to try the diff mame emulator options. Mame stand alone and the diff Libretro Mame cores.
so this is confusing, you added 2003 plus, and 2010 rom set but when you switch emulator to either one it switches per system aka mame and since they're both under mame when you switch from one to the other it fixes one game and messes up another one, this feels like the emulators should be per game or per rom set under mame and not per system
All I do is dump my mame roms in mame rom folder. Most of mine run best with a certain Mame Libretro core,but when I come across some that dont boot, Ill select another emu option and see if that works. So you can set emulators on a per game basis, time consuming maybe if you have a lot but the option is there at least. But yes, Mame can defo be finicky to get right.
@@BatoceraNation I figured it out. For some reason that only occurs when I try to use my wired 360 controller. However, everything works fine with other controllers.
What do you consider a "Powerful System"? Why would you need a Powerful System for the older 80s and early 90s 2D Arcade games? You can't download all the CHD images in one ZIP File and you have to make separate folders for each and every one of the 508 individual files?
Some of those Mame games struggled on my 4800U chip. I gave one example when I did the Naomi tutorial. I believe the folders were automatically created after I unzipped the CHD files.

Hi everybody. No matter what I do, I can’t run Street Fighter EX, EX-Plus, EX2, or EX2 Plus in MAME on Batocera. I have tried every ROM set, both merged and full non-merged, in MAME 2003 Plus and 2010. Has anybody been able to play these games on Batocera?
I don't have any of the 'paste' directories. I only have "boot", "EFI", and "tools". Tools has "btrfs_on_windows," EFI has "BOOT" with 7 files, boot has "syslinux" with 3 files
Thats the boot partition thats in fat32,so you can see that in windows as nornal. The share partition thats expanded and set up when you first boot Batocera is formatted to ext4 which windows cannot see.(if you are doing it that way to see partitions) But if you boot Batocera then press F1 on a keyboard you will enter the file manager see the share partition that way.

You can delete games within the Batocera interface. Long press A or X on a game, depending on what controller you are using, and scroll down to the delete option. I dont think there is a way to automatically remove dupes or clones so you would have to test/check each game manually so can be time consuming depending on the size of your romset(s).

Thanks for the tutorial. But for games like tekken 3 which looks unbelievable on the raspberry pi 4 ran on batceria. But there no sounds and mame doesn't provide samples for it either. I know it's nit picky but this is one of my favorite games and having the arcade version running instead of the ps1 version would be epic
I'm not one of the developers of Batocera. You might ask that question on the Batocera.org forums. However, there might be a way to add it. I'm working a few other tutorials at the moment. When I'm done with those, I will definitely look into it. If it is doable, I will be providing a tutorial.

I would be happy if it was separated into different countries. There are 6 copies of some games and it's hard to tell which ones are 100% English.

Try selecting a different emulator instead of auto.

Is there a way to have both roms sets installed and functional? I followed this great guide for the mame2003plus roms and then tried to add the mame2010 roms and then those would not work until i removed all of the mame2003-plus roms and samples.
Followed step by step got everything done looks GREAT but when I pick a game to play the screen flashes BLACK and go's back to the menu :(
Wrong romset perhaps?
Did you select advanced system option and try the diff emulator and core options?
Have you got all bios files needed?
Theres an option within Batocera that lets you check for missing bios files.

Perhaps the roms are corrupt? Are they kept with original file names? You didnt rename them? Cause they wont work if you rename the zip files.
Perhaps try with a windows mame emulator? Have you used those roms before and have they worked on something else? Otherwise perhaps source them from somewhere else.

Love the content my friend, I have been watching everyday setting up my batocera! My wife thinks I'm nuts! haha. One question I have, I downloaded the 2003 MAME that you provided, it's huge! Is there a more compact version of MAME? There are a ton of games I will never play and there are so many duplicates. Just didn't know if there was like a "best of pack" that can be downloaded? And can I delete the dups without it messing anything up?
Unfortunately, there's not a more concise one since everyone has different favorites. But you can delete the games you don't need. I only have about 100 games in my collection. The rest I deleted. Glad that you are enjoying Batocera.

If you download via torrent, when you begin the download in your client (I use Vuze) you can manually select which files you want. Keep in mind though, it will be confusing to look at so double check that you know the file names you’re looking for to check them into your system

The romset mentioned in the video should work. However, the more demanding games won't work on the Pi4.

Do you know of a way to setup retroarch to ask which station to "insert a coin" at start up?For arcades like the simpsons, TMNT, Sunset riders, etc where each station was a different character.
I know manually how to change the controller port once the game is loaded. But is there a setting that can ask when the game is started?
I tried Mame chd files in the Rom folder of Mame but it does not work. Even put them using a separate folder for each game, same it does not work too. What should I do?
Mame is very picky. If you don't have the correct ROM sets, it's not going to work. No matter what you do. The video explains the correct ROM sets that you'll need and where to find them.
The chd files (and folder I think) must also be the same name as the zip.
But as BN said, its possible you have the incorrect romset too.

Usually not.
In any OS its almost always added as a sep system.
But its easy, simply drop your neogeo zip roms in the neogeo folder (dont rename them as they wont work then)
The names like most other arcade systems will be shortened but once you scrape some artwork and the XML gamelist is created you will see the game names will be displayed normal.
And dont forget to put the neogeo zip bios file in the bios folder.
If games dont boot also copy the bios to the actual neogeo rom folder.
For settings all default should work but you can still go in and change as necessary.
Also from memory I dont think there is a choice for emulator option as I think it uses the FBNeo Libretro core.
Note you also have a neogeo CD folder for cd games.

I've set up 2 different Batocera installations. The 1st was set up on a 128GB SD Card. This was mainly a proof of concept installation just to see how Batocera worked while I was waiting for my new SSD to arrive. The 2nd is set up on a 2GB SSD. This is to be my main Batocera drive where I'm going to install as many games as I can.
On my 1st set-up, I did not follow your instructions for setting up Mame. I'm not sure what Rom set the Roms are from, but a many of them didn't work (understandable, seeing as I likely used the wrong Rom set). I put the Roms inside the Mame Roms folder, but they were not in a "Mame 2003" folder. However, I downloaded Mame Bezels from The Bezel Project and they worked! 😁 It took a very long time to download, but I now have individual customized Bezels for many of the games such as Donkey Kong.
On my 2nd set-up, I carefully followed your instructions for setting up Mame. I downloaded the correct Rom set and placed the Roms in a Mame 2003 folder inside the Mame Roms folder. I've scraped the Roms and every single game I've tested seems to work great! 😍
However! The problem I ran into is with Bezels on my 2nd installation. I downloaded Mame Bezels from The Bezel Project, but this time the download was really quick. For some reason, it only downloaded generic Bezels. None of the games have individual customized Bezels. I'm not sure exactly what I did wrong, but I'd really like to get these Bezels working.
Does anybody have any ideas or help?
To me it seems almost like The Bezel Project is having trouble "finding" my Mame Roms 🤷♂️ Although Mame itself seems to have no problem finding the Roms 😁👍
Try uninstalling the Mame bezels and installing them again.

Hello I have question. I installed batocrea with my laptop and connected a external monitor. And it was working I hit a button that wont allow me to use the monitor the screen just black but the laptop shows a Batocera. Can some one help?
can't get this to work at all, where do the CHD Files go?
For mame roms that need CHD files create a folder for each CHD file, and those have to be named the same as the zip counterpart, put each CHD file in its own named folder.
For eg Killer Instinct, the zip is called kinst, create a folder caller kinst and put the kinst chd in that folder, not the zip, just put the chd in that folder.
Then simply transfer both files to Batocera's mame rom folder.
You need to do that for each game that has a CHD file.
Also dont forget to try diff mame cores for running as performance can vary depending on the game.
So you can also set core per game.

I’m using my arcade joysticks that I built from my arcade machine . It uses a arcade USB encoder for MAME . I mapped out the buttons and it works fine in the menus(frontend) but when I load the game none of the buttons work .
do I need all the CHDs files downloaded and transferred or can I do the few files as you did and will it all work just fine?

I installed batocera v35 and got the whole bios set version for batocera v35. It took me 4 days to completely get mame 2003 Plus, because where I live my internet sucks. Unfortunately I still can't get any CPS2 games or neogeo games to load. Also when I try to install batocera v35 into a USB stick or micro sd card that's more than 32gb, I keep getting "error loading" messages when I try to boot it.

I tried to download the first file but my laptop crashed half way through. Now lynux won't launch. I've had nothing but bad luck trying to get my own retro system up and running.

@@hamowl5794 have to find the version of the game (rom) that allows the multi players and ensure it plays on the appropriate emulator. i was able to find the xmen game that allows six players and also found the four player Simpsons. good luck!

where is the folder that is saved the photo of the games? I want to put some manually.
Each rom folder has its own images folder, once you have scraped games its created.
So you can put images in those, but dont forget each rom folder has its own.
However you may have to add the image to a game manually the if you do it that way.
To do that long press X (or A depending on your controller type) on the game and scroll down to advanced game option and edit metadata, scroll down to the image tab, browse and locate the your image, scroll down to save and select that.

At 14:05 is that ROM emulator selection global or per game? Is there a way to override a single?
You can override any global setting by choosing the game then holding down your A or B button to set the settings of the particular game.
Hello! I'm new to Mame and Batocera but I've been tinkering with an i7 HP Elitedesk G2 Mini and been having a blast doing so. Mame, however, has given me the most problems getting games to work. I'm trying to get games like CarnEvil and Area 51 to run but all it does it kick back to the game selection menu without booting. I've tried both zip and chd files as well as changing the Mame emulator in the advanced options. No success. My Batocera build is 37, the most current one. Is there any chance I can get help with this? Even smaller stuff like Zaxxon won't run. Out of a dozen or so games I've tried all I've got to work is Alien 3 the gun and Arkanoid...

Hello nice channel 😘... iam so hugged on the Batocera system that i had to buy a ryzen 5 pc to run all the games... iam still amazed that some ps2 and gamecube games only run on 12 fps while most of them runs at 60fps... my questain is... can you get Mario Kart arcade to run on Batocera?
Do you mean Mario Kart Arcade GP? If so, then no. It's a special one and it's not built into Batocera yet. It's a great game and maybe in the future it will work on Batocera.

How do you troubleshoot games?
I have a few that just send me back to menu without errors, and one without sound at all
For those that dont boot just try setting a diff core option for that particular game only.
You know how to adjust
settings on a per game basis right? Long press X or A depending on your controller and select advanced game option.
If no other mame emu option works at all perhaps its from a romset that are just not compatible at all with those that are provided with Batocera.
i'm using batocera 35 with the retrofix theme. for the life of me i can't find the game options more or less the edit this games metadata or delete the rom. driving me crazy. i switched to carbon yet still do not see this option anywhere.
When a game is highlighted long press on the game with your A or X button on controller, (depending on your button layout)
This will bring up an advanced game option tab
There you can edit, do per game setting rather than system wide emulator setting, or delete a rom.

The sample files are needed for a handful of games I beleve.
And then the actual rom files (would be in zip format).
Some also may need chd files.
That why mame can be a little finicky to get right.
Then there are rom versions.
But if you follow the video guide here in this video you should be OK.

I don't know why this happens, but a few of my roms don't have proper names in the MAME menu, but just their filenames, which are somewhat nonsensical. How do you change that? is there some file deep in the backend I have to change?
If you scrape the games with sceenscraper it will rename the games for you. The only problem is you can't tell which games are USA, or Japanese, etc. All games with the same name will get the same info.

So if you have a mame game that also requires a chd file
you would create a folder and name it the same as the chd file, and put the chd file in that folder. You also need the zip file for the rom too which should also have the same name.

They should work and you can place it inside Mame but they won't show up as separate systems. However, some themes have them built in as separate from Mame and so you would just add them in their folders Cps1, etc. within the roms folder. If your favorite theme, doesn't have them separated, you can do it manually. Here is a link on how to do it. I might in the future do a tutorial about this.

You can also place them in the folder fbneo and it should work. I also believe that Theme "Next Level Remix" has it already built in and so you would just copy it into their perspective folders in "roms"

Try a diff emulator option for that particular game when in Mame.
Try another libretro core or the Mame stand alone emu.
If that doesnt work perhaps you need a diff version of that rom, from a diff romset.

My vertical shooters are all stretched out. I've messed with the overall settings but nothing changes. Is there a per game setting? In the future, I will be making a only vertical cabinet. Is there a way to rotate the screen?
So far, I have to change the screen ratio to 3/4. It works but the horizontal games are now stretched tall.
For my future project, I found the screen rotate option. I didn't notice this untill I updated to the beta. Now i have a new problem. In the screen rotation options, there is no default. I can't get it back to normal. I tried auto but it stays the same rotation. Any help would be awesome.
To adjust setting per game long press A button when a game is highlighted, or it may be a diff button depending on what controller you are using.
Thanks. I found out that if you open main menu, game settings, and set game ratio to config, it will use the correct ration for each game. Thanks for the help.
There's a setting for pixel perfect which solves the ratio problems.

Most of the top and classic games are found in both of them. Finding the right romset is more difficult. So whichever of the two romsets you are successful in finding, I would stick with that one.

Do you have the bios files needed ?
Make sure you have all bios files (namely the neogeo.zip file for neogeo) and place them in the bios folder.
And dont rename the neogeo roms, they must keep their original abbreviated name.
@@fonzitheman I've sorted it now. I needed a different set of roms. I do have all the bios files installed but I think it was the roms themselves that where wrong. I needed .bin files but i had .rom files inside the zips. so they wouldn't work. Thanks anyway

Don't extract MAME roms files. Keep them as zipped. They are supposed to have a bunch of files. That's normal, but you need to keep them zipped or they won't work.
And dont rename them either.
Is there a way to add CHD MAME games? I can't find any for version 0.251 of mame (I have to run batocera 36 because it's on steam deck). I just wanted killer instinct! The zip file for that game won't open so was looking for CHD. If anyone has tips I would greatly appreciate it.
Some games for mame need the chd file as well as the zip so if you have a mame game that also requires a chd file (like KI and KI2 for eg)
you would create a folder and name it the same as the chd file, then put the chd file in that folder. You also need the zip file for the rom too, so the folder with the chd file in and the zip file should have the same name.
I have KI and KI2 running fine this way.
Depending on what version roms you have you may need to try the diff mame emulator options. Mame stand alone and the diff Libretro Mame cores.

so this is confusing, you added 2003 plus, and 2010 rom set but when you switch emulator to either one it switches per system aka mame and since they're both under mame when you switch from one to the other it fixes one game and messes up another one, this feels like the emulators should be per game or per rom set under mame and not per system
All I do is dump my mame roms in mame rom folder.
Most of mine run best with a certain Mame Libretro core,but when I come across some that dont boot, Ill select another emu option and see if that works.
So you can set emulators on a per game basis, time consuming maybe if you have a lot but the option is there at least.
But yes, Mame can defo be finicky to get right.

Batocera has a built in Scraper. Press the Start Button on your gamepad. You should see the Scraper option there.

You have to go into your gamelist file within the Mame folder, search for the game, and delete the section that says hidden.

Whats up with the BIOS File? Why do you need it? What f you have Batocera 32?
Some consoles won't run without the Bios files. If you have the Bios for 31 then you probably don't need the ones for 32.
What do you consider a "Powerful System"? Why would you need a Powerful System for the older 80s and early 90s 2D Arcade games?
You can't download all the CHD images in one ZIP File and you have to make separate folders for each and every one of the 508 individual files?
Some of those Mame games struggled on my 4800U chip. I gave one example when I did the Naomi tutorial. I believe the folders were automatically created after I unzipped the CHD files.

Hi everybody. No matter what I do, I can’t run Street Fighter EX, EX-Plus, EX2, or EX2 Plus in MAME on Batocera. I have tried every ROM set, both merged and full non-merged, in MAME 2003 Plus and 2010. Has anybody been able to play these games on Batocera?
I have SF EX and EX2 running in mame.
They are just zip files.
And using the Mame0319 LR core.
I don't have any of the 'paste' directories. I only have "boot", "EFI", and "tools". Tools has "btrfs_on_windows," EFI has "BOOT" with 7 files, boot has "syslinux" with 3 files
Thats the boot partition thats in fat32,so you can see that in windows as nornal.
The share partition thats expanded and set up when you first boot Batocera is formatted to ext4 which windows cannot see.(if you are doing it that way to see partitions)
But if you boot Batocera then press F1 on a keyboard you will enter the file manager see the share partition that way.

How did you get rid of the clones?
You can delete games within the Batocera interface.
Long press A or X on a game, depending on what controller you are using, and scroll down to the delete option.
I dont think there is a way to automatically remove dupes or clones so you would have to test/check each game manually so can be time consuming depending on the size of your romset(s).

Thanks for the tutorial. But for games like tekken 3 which looks unbelievable on the raspberry pi 4 ran on batceria. But there no sounds and mame doesn't provide samples for it either. I know it's nit picky but this is one of my favorite games and having the arcade version running instead of the ps1 version would be epic

I'm not one of the developers of Batocera. You might ask that question on the Batocera.org forums. However, there might be a way to add it. I'm working a few other tutorials at the moment. When I'm done with those, I will definitely look into it. If it is doable, I will be providing a tutorial.
