When the Cybertruk was first introduced, there were three versions. The lowest priced single motor version stickered (back then) at $39,999 which at the time, was a bargain for a totally new kind of design, and Tesla technology. Hence the reason I placed an order for one online. As the years progressed and Tesla made announcements that the single motor version was going to be produced after the reservations for the triple and double motor versions were built. That and the cost went up with inflation by a large margin and now, Tesla is no longer offering the single motor version. Ford in the meantime came out with its F150 Lightning work truck for the same sticker price as the Tesla CT base. However the Ford truck had all wheel drive with two motors, and no change to the very popular F150 cab and bed design, just with independent rear suspension on the Lightning instead of the solid rear axle on the ICE version. Ford got their pickup on the street several years before Tesla did, and for a few months kept the pricing in check. But they too had to raise their prices to ridiculous levels for the base truck, and as such, it's no longer that entry level, battery powered truck that Tesla offered. Want a Tesla or a Ford Lightning, you better be ready to fork over over $70k.
Latest News ( copied from CNBC web page ) about TESLA Auto pilot: Federal authorities say a “critical safety gap” in Tesla’s Autopilot system contributed to at least 467 collisions, 13 resulting in fatalities. The findings come from a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration analysis of 956 crashes in which Tesla Autopilot was thought to have been in use. Tesla’s Autopilot design has “led to foreseeable misuse and avoidable crashes,” the NHTSA report said.

Yea I think it’s a piece of very expensive junk.
NHTSA - there is no five-star safety rating, and the Cybertruck wasn't mentioned in the agency's list of vehicles it will crash test for 2024. I worry about it being a hazard to other vehicles and pedestrians more than other vehicles. Whatever properties the flat panel sides have, would have been improved with some curves, inefficient.
The reason why Tesla went with a smaller battery and optional range extender is because most users do not need more than 300mi for their daily commutes. Based on the success and range of the Model 3/Y, it's obvious most drivers are okay with 300mi of range. Carrying more batteries that don't get utilized effectively decreases efficiency. Larger batteries found in the Cybertruck competitors may provide more range but will require more charging time to top up. If you were to go on a very long road trip requiring multiple charging stops, you will end up arriving at your destination shorter in a Cybertruck because the charge time is minimal.
@@justin9152 Excuse or not, what I said is still true. The only meaningful way to increase range is to increase energy density - kwh/kg. If that was solved, every automaker would put it in their cars.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide How would it accomodate more batteries in the existing pack design? If you're talking about the 1" void above the batteries discovered in the cybertruck battery teardown, the speculation is that it is used to help provide isolation in the case of a thermal runaway. Even if they could pack more batteries in the same battery pack space, you're missing my earlier points. More batteries = more weight. More weight = inefficiency. To serve the average user, the efficiency and range should be such that you could comfortably complete your daily commute and charge nightly. In the case of a road trip, total travel time (incl driving + charging) is the number to optimize for. Smaller, faster charging battery packs is the leading way to decrease total travel time.
Crazy how mad grown men get over this truck, like they’re afraid. Kids unanimously love it. Probably because they haven’t been trained to think one way or the other about it. Great review! I’m be seen them all and you covered the compromises and unique benefits very well. Probably the best review so far!
When I was a kid I thought a Dodge Neon was a great car. Guess what? I grew up and know now it was always a complete POS. Someday you'll grow up too and have the experience to make good decisions on what a truck should be.
If you literally gave me anything at all from Tesla I would IMMEDIATELY sell it. I cannot even imagine accepting this monstrosity for free! When you gloss over the possibility of your kids potentially severely injuring themselves on those sharp undone panels, which should be basic design, and factor in the length of time they took to come up with this amateurish crap, you wonder what people are willing to accept.
It blows my mind how driving while texting is illegal, yet vehicles like this bury IMPERATIVE features 2-3 menus deep which take dozens of seconds to access each time. It’s wild that manufacturers are allowed to have a fully fledged OS for users to navigate while driving. People today are more distracted than ever while driving and this is one of the primary culprits.
most Controls in TESLA are Automatic , can be Directly controlled by Steering Wheel or VOICE commands. every TESLA uses , Multiple PROFILES for settings. Tesla FSD v12.3 can Autoshift.
What controls do you need that are touch only? The wipers can be adjusted via scrollwheel. Volume is also a scrollwheel. Everything else in this truck is automated: Seat, Steering, Mirrors, Climate controls, Seat Heating and Cooling, Lights.
I love the Cybertruck looks. And it does everything a truck needs to do while not being inefficient. Plus, the big 3 make very unreliable trucks. So add in reliability and all that extra instant torque. Hard not to want this unless you're just stuck in the past or afraid your bros will shun you for going electric.
Ugly like Chevy Orlando, Lada, some Chinese knock offs, and some previous French vehicles....this must be Russian? I would not even want for free. Elon other vehicles are so awesome design and this look like celebrities that were beautiful and ruined themselves with plastic surgery.
Whether or not this truck sells , it doesn't matter. You gotta start somewhere and you can always build something later on that the mainstream desires. Keep in mind it was Elon Musk that got the EV market off the ground in this country.
Whew, made it. I was wondering if you would call out the poor forward visibility and you got it right in at the end. The more raked a windsheild is the more impeded forward visibility is, and that is the one place you need good visibility. First time i discovered that was in 2010 with the 3rd gen Prius. Not only did it create a tunnel vision effect with the massive A pillars but it also made it more difficult to judge where the front of the car was. I can only imagine how disorientating the cybertruck is upon first drive but I guess you adjust over time.
I have a Ford F-150 and a Cybertruck. The F-150 has a very high, flat grill. I cannot see small children in front as easily as the Cybertruck. Yes, it takes a little practice to know how close you can pull forward to a curb or another object (you can pull surprisingly close) but you get used to this pretty quickly.
Aztec wasn't bulletproof to most pistol calibers, didn't have >600 hp, can't tow 11,000 lbs, haul 2,500 lbs, didn't have a huge 17" of ground clearance allowed by the beefy air suspension, didn't have a 6' X 4' illuminated, lockable bed with a big subtrunk, or one of the best sound systems in the industry. It's shockingly good. And people forget that the Aztec was a great vehicle! Just because it looked weird, people wrote it off.
unfortunately the aero covers were poorly designed and are no longer to be used since they will ruin the tires - does Tesla provide a number without the aero covers?
Not only that, lots of people complain about it not working right and picking the wrong direction. It's a stupid design decision that cost someone their life already, even if they were inebriated.
Side view is just sooooooooo bad ! I don't get it, the other vehicles in Tesla's line up make sense and are "subjectively" attractive. They could have done something with the Y, built something Rivian-ish and produced a winner.
Alex, We were desperately short of expensive, impractical, self-indulgent, style-forward pickups so it is a good thing this..... thing came along . 😉😂🤣
Like the CyberTruck, the GMC Hummer EV, RAM TRX, Ford Raptor R, and Chevy Silverado RST EV are other examples of expensive supertrucks at the top of the testosterone pyramid.
Dear Travis, in this video Alex says that is hard to see cylists and motocyclists close to the sides of Cybertruck, due to to shape of his car body. And you defined "valid" my concern about sharp angles - sharp edges - of Cybertruck related with impact consequences possibly occurred with cyclists and motorcyclist themselves. So we have: 1) more chances to hurt them for visibility issues 2) more serious wounds in the quoted event. As we see, two factors that contributes each other to provoke and aggravate accidents. But there are or not regulations about ways to build car in that perspective? For instance, since many years we no longer have sharp domestic objects in our homes. Speaking back about cars, in Europe exist an indipendent company - EuroNcap, recognized by governments - that assign stars to the car behavior in event of crash against pedestrians. Thanks and best regards Claudio Trezzani

Can you discuss the insurance costs? Any word from the owner? I’d imagine the insurance companies probably don’t know either and will adjust in the future .but current state is still interesting.
Easy. Musk wasn't there to influence the original designs. The original founders already had both the S and 3 planned before Musk could make his cosplay truck.

finally, when this guy made a review i listened
NHTSA - there is no five-star safety rating, and the Cybertruck wasn't mentioned in the agency's list of vehicles it will crash test for 2024. I worry about it being a hazard to other vehicles and pedestrians more than other vehicles.
Whatever properties the flat panel sides have, would have been improved with some curves, inefficient.
I guess no one saw the song title “Complicated” which makes everything complicated 😂

Oh what a surprise, Tesla wouldn't give you one otherwise.😂
Tesla didn't give us one, a viewer let us borrow theirs. -Travis
Beginning of the vid!
Most people being ok with less range doesn’t explain why they didn’t put more batteries in the existing case that could accommodate a larger pack…
This was Teslas excuse when they realized their 4680s were much less energy dense than they had hoped for.
It's about towing. Why trucks require larger battery packs.
I've had my Cyberbeast for 3 weeks and I drove it less than 47 minutes.
And?
It would look better dimpled with a 16oz ball pein hammer.

Complicated - Avril Lavigne 🤣LOL...
The huge angled windshield will be very volunrable in a hail storm.
Finally saw one in person and I didn’t like it. It looked cheap and unfinished.
I’m all for an alternative approach. This is probably the worst design of a truck I’ve seen. I wouldn’t buy it because of it
Alex can't pronounce tonneau.🤣🤣🤣
If you literally gave me anything at all from Tesla I would IMMEDIATELY sell it. I cannot even imagine accepting this monstrosity for free! When you gloss over the possibility of your kids potentially severely injuring themselves on those sharp undone panels, which should be basic design, and factor in the length of time they took to come up with this amateurish crap, you wonder what people are willing to accept.
Complicated by Avril Lavigne. Well played, Alex.
Everything is available via voice command. As is with all current Tesla's.
I've done some bad driving while accessing much easier feature buttons
@@BorkyBorkborkI only have model 3 and y and for some basic things voice commands don't work.
most Controls in TESLA are Automatic , can be Directly controlled by Steering Wheel or VOICE commands.
every TESLA uses , Multiple PROFILES for settings.

What an ugly truck
But at least the rear vision is horrible
It will matter less as the fsd features come online.

Not for me for sure, inside is not good, every control and settings in software and inside the screen 😮no no no.

there is NOTHING else like it in the WORLD , and its built way TOUGHER than RAM, Silverado EV, gmc EV, FUD Lightweight, Hummer EV and RIVIAN.

- Cybertruck is the MOST Exciting vehicle Sandy has ever Experienced. thats saying alot.
- Cybertruck KICKS real a$$.
think about this, MUNRO used to benchmark ICE vehicles & ICE Engines , in 2020 MUNRO Abandoned ALL ICE benchmarking for 100% BEV.
- Every time they turn around , they find Something NEW on the Cybertruck.
- NEW Tesla Induction motors , not PLAID, and not Stock Model 3 Either.
- also NEW Front PM motor, Hybrid of previous PM Tesla motors.
- Cybertruck is near NET cold forgings.
- both PM & ID motors are same size.
- ONE machine to Produce both Motors.
- no one ELSE can do 48v TRUCK , guts to do 48v vehicles .
- CT has Trifecta , 48v, steer by wire, REAR steer.
- TESLA leading the way w/ 48v Solid Core AL wires.
- old CAN bus = 80g , TESLA new Ethernet = 40g.
- no one on EARTH is using Intergrated GIGACASTING in cars & Trucks.
- uses 6600 TON for Front, & 9000 TON for REAR , Tesla uses scrap waste for NON structural Castings.
- Tesla has NEW own CAD system, Design, NEW Software for MORE Efficient Gigacasting w/ older Equipment.
- MUNRO has First Automotive Megacastings. no Takers , TESLA Interested.
- SANDY, there is REASON why you dont see Stamped Sheet metal ENGINES , all are CAST.
My take is that Tesla trying to make the Cybertruck a jack of all trades, and thus suffer from being a master of none. It basically average at everything it does, less storage space then a Lightening for a work truck with less outlets. Not as good as a Rivan for outdoors. only thing really going for it is it's polarizing design.
Can you discuss the insurance costs? Any word from the owner? I’d imagine the insurance companies probably don’t know either and will adjust in the future .but current state is still interesting.
How could the same company that designed the Model S come up with something so hideous. I'd be embarrassed to get out of that thing.
Easy. Musk wasn't there to influence the original designs. The original founders already had both the S and 3 planned before Musk could make his cosplay truck.

I think that the reason they got an extender is because they are battery constrained. They simply cannot produce enough 4680 batteries for the truck. 😅😅😅😅
Very much a case of form over function. It would have been interesting to see what they could have achieved if they had set their minds on engineering a well thought out truck first and foremost. That said, I do welcome this addition to the segment. Definitely unique.
