  • Obviously this seawall was not there when Macarthur arrived, it being built after Yolanda devastated the area in 2013. The dicey weather this day did not prevent a bunch of kids from catching a swim and giving a wave to the camera. Also shown is the swimming pool area of the now closed, but then still open Oriental Leyte hotel in its final days of operation. This hotel was built on the site of another hotel which was built by Imelda Marcos in 1983. That hotel was demolished in 2012 and the Oriental Leyte was built in its place. The timing could not have been much worse as just a year later the new hotel was thrashed by Yolanda, requiring extensive repairs.
