I think we love Eddie because of his honesty. He is honest when he is scared and when he is afraid, and he is honest in his bravery.

That’s it… he overcame his fears. He found virtue… and through that achieved redemption. It’s sounds hokey and old fashioned. While his story arc can be buried under 1980’s pop culture references… our emotional connection to it remains the same, whether it’s Homers Iliad or Netflix.

We all love Eddie because he embodies what most of us were in high school. The nice kid who had the long hair, the metal band shirts, and looked like the loner. Loved by those who knew him, but mostly not seen by anyone else, and judged by those who needed to play the part to “fit in”. Eddie was sweet, honest, kind but mostly judged or ignored. His character was so well written, and many of us growing up can resonate with the character. Such an impactful character, maybe we can take a lesson and look at how we treat others.
No he was that typical, LOUD obnoxious attention-seeking awkward looking, band t'shirt wearing, wannabe leader of the pack type, That everyone had in their school, The one who built up such a wall with others when you try and speak with them they are extremely defensive and extremely rude ! Description down to a tee !

It’s not everyday that you see a character as universally loved as Eddie, but damn if it isn’t amazing to see.

Eddie had a so good, pure and brave heart. He was true to himself and to everyone, all the time. That's why we all love him.

As sad as Eddie’s death scene was, and I did in fact cry…it was when Dustin was breaking the news to his uncle calling Eddie a hero. Eddie put a crack in the damn, the uncle and Dustin broke the damn of tears for me
The sad thing is most people wouldn’t have time for Eddie in real life. I saw it all too often growing up and still see in in adult life. Too many people judge a book by its cover.
It is very sad. Some of the most beautiful and awesome people I've met, come in the strangest packages. I would love to meet someone like Eddie in real life. He's a damn good guy.

he is based on Kas from D&D, who gets killed by bats and then returns as Vecnas right Hand. I strongly believe he will be around in season 5. also watch his interviews where he gets asked about beeing on the show for just one season... his reaction is revealing.

Allegedly, they also regretted killing off Chrissy because they only found out how much chemistry Chrissy and Eddie had AFTER they filmed the scene where she dies.

Eddie is a legend and will be a beloved tv character for many many years. I just hope they somehow clear his name in s5 and the public finds out he was actually a hero, he deserves it.
Don’t think there has been a character as loved as Steve until Eddie. Many of us feel like the outsider in life and Eddie taught us that that’s okay.
Alot of People hated steve in the first season but as the duffer brothers changed their minds they made him have the best character development ever and now everyone loves him. But Eddie was always loveable since his first appearance in the show unlike steve who people had to wait to start liking him

@@TheGamingDux that’s what made Steve so great though. If he was always a nice guy, without imperfections, he would have been pretty one dimensional. It’s the fact that he started out as a douche, hit rock bottom, reevaluated who he is as a man, then came out as a better person is why he is so amazing.
Steve was at his best in season 3, you could tell he was dealing with insecurities in season 4, which kind of caused him to be more of an ass, I hope he comes back out on top in season 5
Yes but it took time for fans to love Steve. He was a total asshole in season 1. Eddie was *instantly loved* by the end of his first episode. That's the difference.

I know the real Eddie. He was our DM back in the 80's. A true metal head, played guitar in a band, and painted mini's like a demon. Props to you dude, you were the rock our little 'hellfire club' kept our course on. Naturally these days we've all gone our seperate ways and the "Essex" club is all but forgotten, but at least one of us remembers.
The part in the upside down where Eddie is playing his guitar bring over the Demi bats is one of the coolest in season 4! Anything with rock and action both in one I love for some reason!
Eddie deserves this so much. The fact that only Dustin, and none of the gang, mentioned his sacrifice at the end didn’t sit well with me.
Glad I’m not the only one who thought it was weird. Like it had only been 2 days but they all seemed so “happy” and “over it” …like Dustin seemed to be the only one who cared. Not even the other hellfire members :((. I mean Lucas gets a pass because of max but yeah
I'm sure they'll correct it next season, like adding Nancy's response to Barb to season 2 and Max's mourning/trauma from Billy to this season. Feels like they often don't put those moments in the season wrap-up, but they'll have to for any deaths next time
It's possible none of the others commented on Eddie's death because maybe he's not really dead??? He died in the Upside Down not in actual reality. It's just a theory, actually a wish.

eddie’s character progression is so incredible. he was seen as a freak, he ran away, but he made friends who accepted him as he is, and then, he stopped running. he turned around, he looked back, and he could have seen people who judged him, who avoided him, but he saw people to save. and he gave his life for it. the fact that he decided to fight for people who didn’t even consider him is honestly so brave of him and nothing will ever change that.
Goddamn Eddie was such a well written character. Through the acting and writing, you can tell he’s not just some stereotypical geek who loves metal. He has this side that shows that he’s an amazing person. It’s a shame that people in the Stranger Things universe doesn’t get to see that side of him.
Rip Eddie man, he won’t be forgotten.

They didn't expect how much the fans would love him. The series has always had a penchant for killing secondary characters. Bob and Billy met a heroic death at the end of the season by being bitten/stung in the stomach. I like Eddie, he's the coolest new character, but I kind of think his death was predictable from the start (especially after his speech in the first episode that it would be his year because when someone says it on TV then everything always goes to shit one way or another)

Absolutely crazy how Joseph Quinn was able to bring so much energy and life into a character to connect to everyone on such a personal level, and become an immediate fan favorite. What a fantastic job.

We love Eddie they way he is portrayed by Joseph is amazing, and we couldn’t ask for anything better.
Its a shame that they killed him off, I know writers have to make tough choiches but i feel like Eddie was really something new in the show, he really added something unique and thats why he became everyone's favorite in linke 5 episodes and with a little amount of screentime. I think it was a mistake, as much as I LOVE Steve or Jonathan I feel like they're only there to be Nancy's love triangle. Don't get me wrong, especially Steve, is an amazing character who had an amazing narrative arch. But he's there only as comic relief/babysitting and now to re-ignite the spark with Nancy. One of them between Steve and Johnatan will clearly die in S5, maybe they could have anticipated that in S4 by letting Eddie live...

I think Eddie was such a loveable character because of the "spiderman" complex. Spiderman self sacrifices over and over again, yet is hated by many people because of the Daily Bugle. Eddie, was a funny, charismatic, hero origin story. We sympathized for his plight, and cheered for his victories. When he sacrificed himself it was like loosing a hero. Someone you routed for, you wanted them to win. But they never did. So the injustice by the characters in the show towards Eddie, is met with justice from the fans of the show.
At the end of the day.... Eddie is a made up character and his face is on someone's lawn. That's awesome. lol

Great summary of the character and why everyone loves the dude! He was also an authentic, positive representation of metalheads in the 1980s who were often demonized by other social cliques and mass media, so his character was bound to be villainized by society while being an actual hero in the show. Also, minor note, it's "rooted for", not "routed". ;)

@@_stelllablue fun fact. The entire death was actually improv. Eddie was only supposed to get injured but his actor got legitimately stabbed by a metal prop by accident and died and they just kept rolling and went with it.

Words cannot express how much Eddie will be missed. He carried Season 4 on his back. Excellent character development and phenomenal performance. Season 5 and the show in general will not be the same. Eddie was just too good of a character to drop off the show. We need more Eddie.

Better to burn out than fade away! Eddie won me over at the D&D scene when he bowed and opened his arms in defeat with a proud smile. I love every season and pretty much all the acting talent but the winning duos of season 4 were definitely Eddie & Dustin and Joyce & Murray.
THAT scene made me emotional for some reason. Like, he was so proud of Erica. And he was so HAPPY she proved him wrong. Such a good dude. I'd like to add an honorable mention though, bc Robin and Nancy had me giggling and cheering for them for like 3 episodes.
Try playing d&d sometime if u haven’t already. A good dungeon master will share in the success of their players when they have achievements like that, just like Eddie did 😊

When has there ever been a character and actor that has become THIS beloved THIS quickly? Like never in the history of entertainment. Hats off to Joseph Quinn - he did such an amazing job. Love love love Eddie. We now need to make sure Steve is protected at all costs - can you imagine if we lose them both?

Agreed! Eddie, Max and Vecna are my fav characters. Max will always have a place in my heart as well. I felt that little girl so much. Their characters had depth to them IMO.

I literally lost when dustin justifies Eddie's death to his uncle with a pretty guilty expressions on his face. Although he was not responsible for Eddie's death, but still he was proud to have a partner like him.

He faced all his flaws and went down windmill swinging Pete Townsend style. This was his year this was his season. And his Uncle loved him no matter what, because he knew and Dustin knew who the real Eddie was. We all did. Most Metal Ever Munson. May he rise as a vampire lord.

For those wondering why all the hype, here's my take:
1.- Eddie is just a very well-written character. A LOT of people identified with him (outsiders, metalheads, "weirdos", etc). Despite all of his flaws we get to see the bright side of him. He befriens with people very diferent from him and seems to care for them. Deep down inside he had charisma.
2.- Most viewers empathized with him because everybody saw him as the bad guy when he really wasn't. The audience was very saddened by the fact that he died a hero and never got to prove his innocence. Maybe this is all cliché but it worked wonders.
3.- Master of Puppets is considered by many to be Metallica's best song. A very wise move by the Duffer bros for including one of the greatest heavy metal bands in the series.
4.- Joseph Quinn actualy PLAYED the guitar in that scene (except for the solo)... something all of us guitar players can truly appreciate.
He was the perfect fit for that role. I think no other actor could've done it better.

I feel that the reason people connected so well with him is that scene at the picnic table with chrissy- where they defy each other's expectations, because that is the quality of the kind of person that people keep beyond arms reach, too afraid to know the real person, and there is so much of that in each of us

I never related with a character so hard like I do with Eddie. You guys shattered me, man... Such a beautiful character. Us "freaks" are always too fast to be judged before knowing anything about us. The scene where eddie's uncle came to put a missing poster for eddie , where dustin told him what happened to eddie and where he started crying, was the most emotional scene for me, couldn't control myself there !!🥺
I love this, it makes me think not only about a great character/ great actor, but also about the certain type of person Eddie represented and that in reality people really get judged by their appearance, and one only realizes how good they where when they're gone

Eddie shows just how much you can develop a fully flushed-out character in one season. Wow...
If you want see how quickly you fan flesh out a character and have them have an incredible emotional impact, go watch Elfen Lied, which inspired Stranger things. There's a character in Elfen Lied that in just 2 1/2 episodes is one of the most emotionally hard hitting characters in TV history. I wont say her name here, but the Duffer Brothers really took amazing inspiration from Elfen Lied, and it shows In Stranger Things.

Joseph Quinn made it. He definitely gone through tough times auditioning on other projects. The impact he had in this show is amazing.
Eddie just might be the best character to come out of Stranger Things, and although it's sad to see him go, it solidifies his characters legacy. I look forward to his future cameos.

yeah! it's wonderful, great representation I think (though I'm not that into metal myself, so you'll have to tell me) plus he's made a lot of people like me who weren't into it previously enjoy it and see the value in it. It's great cause I probably wouldn't have been that open to it in the past, but now I legit think it's great.
I think Eddie made an impact for such a small amount of time because most of us have an Eddie in our life, so we can relate to the character as a friend of ours. Stunning delivery on the actor's part and great writing!
he made the greatest sacrifice for people that never gave him the benefit of a doubt. thats we everyone loves eddie

Best moments of the final episode:
1. Eddie trying to fight an army of bats instead of running and hiding.
2. Hopper killing a demogorgan with a sword after fire and bullets failed.
3. Eleven overpowering Vecna after Mike says that he loves her, as if Max dying in front of her was not enough.

Probably the most inspiring thing about Eddie is he wasn’t perfect… he was just human, with good and bad things as everybody else… and then, his development, demonstrated by his bravery at the very end… his ability of moving forward to do the right thing in spite of all his fears. That’s inspiring.

Edit: Some people say it isn’t, some people say i need to watch other tv series. Hear me out folks, not every line you hear should be badass and dope, sometimes it can be very subtle and simple yet carry a huge depth. There are people who struggle with their lives, running away from things, there are people with depression and other sort of emotions/situations they are dealing with which they can relate and decide to make a change. Sometimes we need to stop running and fight. So yes for me this line is powerful as any other line ❤️ _its the little things that matter_

Joseph killed it, he really gave us the best version of Eddie. I'm so happy that he is getting all the recognition he deserves and I hope somehow the Duffer brothers will bring him back for next season. We simply can't get enough of Eddie.

I agree, Eddie is the best thing to happen to this show aside from babysitter Steve. I hope they bring him back. If they could bring Papa back with ZERO explanation, they can bring Eddie back by making him a vampire or transforming him into Kas (plus how STOKED would Eddie be to actually become a D and D character?!?). His sacrifice was dumb anyway, it wasn't even necessary for their survival and that adds insult to injury. Plus I want more Eddie and the group scenes!
@@madisonestes9381 Yes, I was confused when papa appeared out of nowhere, they never explained how he survived the Demogorgon, it didn't make sense at all.
I really hope that they bring Eddie back as Kas, it would be such an exciting storyline.

This is what the 80s and 90s felt like. Where there were only 50 or so channels on TV and everyone was on the same page culturally. Stranger things is one of those things where we all can relate to once more.

Eddie has to come back to the show someway, somehow. Even if it’s flashback scenes or something, he is a huge asset to the show and the Duffer brothers made a huge mistake in killing him off.
Not sure that it was a mistake. I still miss Bob too, but their deaths had meaning, were part of their growth as characters, and really made the story have consequences and weight.

I bet some of the original cast are wondering how Eddie has become so iconic after just one season on the show, Joe is an awesome actor and portrays this character with such passion and charm that it was inevitable that he would become so popular, he may have only been on it this season but he is the heart of the show as he captured so many with his outstanding performance.

eddie was the best character ever introduced in my eyes. even for such a short spotlight he absolutely nailed it. the fact that he played my favorite metallica song too makes this even more special.
