    Kensington Philadelphia Drug & Crime Problems
    Violent crime and drug abuse in Philadelphia as a whole is a major problem. The city’s violent crime rate is higher than the national average and other similarly sized metropolitan areas.1 Also alarming is Philadelphia’s drug overdose rate. The number of drug overdose deaths in the city increased by 50% from 2013 to 2015, with more than twice as many deaths from drug overdoses as deaths from homicides in 2015.2 A big part of Philadelphia’s problems stem from the crime rate and drug abuse in Kensington.
    Because of the high number of drugs in Kensington, the neighborhood has a drug crime rate of 3.57, the third-highest rate by neighborhood in Philadelphia.3 Like a lot of the country, a big part of this issue is a result of the opioid epidemic. Opioid abuse has skyrocketed over the last two decades in the United States and Philadelphia is no exception. Along with having a high rate of drug overdose deaths, 80% percent of Philadelphia’s overdose deaths involved opioids2 and Kensington is a big contributor to this number. This Philly neighborhood is purportedly the largest open-air narcotics market for heroin on the East Coast with many neighboring residents flocking to the area for heroin and other opioids.4 With such a high number of drugs in Kensington, many state and local officials have zoned in on this area to try and tackle Philadelphia’s problem.

Thank fuck I wasn't born there or will ever go there. If you are from the USA and offended by my comments rather than the state of your country then you need to take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror.

    • @caseydorn3309
      @caseydorn3309 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah. How dare people have mental illnesses right? And God forbid having public officials step in to help. After all it's better that they just die, right? You want to talk about mental illness...look in a mirror and check your compassion gauge. And watch a video about addiction. Most folks didn't make a conscious choice to get into a bad situation. It's a series of events...some are in one's control. Others, really not so much.

    • @caseydorn3309
      @caseydorn3309 3 роки тому +3

      @Gonewiththewind Coddling--no. That's not what my post was about. My point is, these people are struggling with mental illness. That doesn't mean you accept the behavior or the consequences that have been mentioned in terms of impact to the folks that live in those areas. But, the thing is, we really haven't been helping them. We complain and complain about the homeless, for so many reasons. But then, when the topic of increasing funding for shelters, for addiction treatment, for outreach...comes up, citizens balk and say it's too expensive. Arresting people for being homeless, having mental illness, or similar problems...is not a moral way to solve the issues in Kensington. More importantly for folks who don't care about the moral aspect...it's more expensive in the long run. Someone arrested for a petty crime will be back out in a few months. Being incarcerated makes it harder to get and keep a job after though. And thus, the cycle repeats and we end up paying a ton of money for the policing and the jails that end up housing these people. It would be cheaper and better to just fund outreach and shelters etc. Would that help everyone? Of course not. Some folks don't want to get better. But, some, with the right resources, probably do. In a nutshell, I'm advocating for compassion, and constructive outreach programs...not just allowing the abominable state of affairs in N. Philly (and other big cities) to continue.

It's insanely cheap most people can just buy what's called a slice it's 1 individual baggy and it's 5 bucks that will knock most people out easily. It's an absolute shame what's going on in this area luckily I got out and moved out of state.

    Question
    Isn't there a law against blocking entrances and keeping stores from doing business??
    Store owners need to go to Brian Squilla city councilman and Brendan Boyle Congressman to find out what their rights are
    Or maybe they've already done ut!

    Sometimes I wonder what exactly is wrong with me. I watch videos like this, like the Japanese tsunami, like traffic accidents and I feel actual serenity. I have no empathy, I've never liked people, myself included, and the most beautiful thing I can think of is the end of the world. Not in some sense of renewal but a total and permanent annihilation of all possibility of life ever coming back. I'm not posting this to be edgy, I genuinely want to understand why I'm like this, and if anyone else feels the same.

      @@greciacedillo1323 I can't afford it, or I would have gone long ago. As it is, I guess watching these things functions as some kind of therapy. I don't feel malice as I watch thousands of people die, or get hurt, or succumb to addiction. It just brings me peace. I mean, I myself was involved in a terrible wreck that left me bed ridden but I've come back from it. Maybe I'm just evil.

    Zero sympathy for these people. At some point it’s a choice. You have to want to help yourself. I’d rather focus attention to military veterans who are begging for help from their own VA’s but get nothing from the government they fought to protect. No time should be wasted on street trash. They out there for a reason. Veterans deserve help. Yet get nothing because people would rather sympathize with this bullshit. 🤦🏻‍♂️
