My family always goes to Mammoth from Orange County (6 hour drive) and I absolutely love it. I've memorized the mountain and its so fun to ride (admittedly it gets boring after going about a million times)!
The timing of this video couldn't be better 🤣 I just literally booked a trip to visit Mammoth Lakes in two weeks and I'm stoked to check out Mammoth! Thank you sir!! 🤙🏻
Mammoth's Opening Day is TODAY!! Couldn't have had better timing! I do day trips from LA and it takes me a 3 hours 45 mins to get there, including gas and breakfast stops. Just gotta send it... and leave at 2am.
You're going to get caught by the CHP eventually anything over 90 mph is reckless driving...BEWARE
I leave at 3am get there at 9am, snowbaord till 5 and get homea around 11pm....its soooo worth it😂
Hey Jonathan, I love the effort you make into this series, I just think it would come across way better in a vlog-style video. The office vibes make it look like an afterthought to me. A vlog will transmit the hype of the resort much better, especially when you're having fun with friends, get to eat, drink something, run the park etc
Heading up tomorrow after this early season storm. Stoked!!!!
I feel like that mountain prepares you to ski anywhere in the world...they just popped the top today...40" dump.
Ive been wanting to go to mammy nate dog loves this place
Been to 75 different mountains all over the US and a few in Europe. Mammoth has some of the most varied terrain than any other mountain. I love some other mountains in other places but none more than Mammoth.
Mammoth only recently turned fancy.
It was always a California secret, low key resort with June Mountain attached. Now that the Ikon Pass is attached it has certainly made Mammoth a fancy location. Its growing out of its pants at the moment and will be for a few year. Mammoth has everything, top to bottom all mountain and park; PLUS the sun. Its way more expensive now than it was thats for sure. The summer is even better than the winter.
It has become the wocal jerryfest. Good for intermediates and families and not much else.
After skiing and boarding for the better part of 50 years I can honestly say, Mammoth Mountain is one of my favorite resorts to ski and ride.
Mammoth Mountain was not always the classy place you reviewed. limited local lodging, awful food on the hill, picnic tables in the cafeterias, 15 minute restroom lines and 2 hour lift lines were the norm. As a kid skiing was not that fun until I was able to ski Colorado and Canada where they did have true world class resorts. I had no idea this is what snow skiing was supposed to be like and swore of Mammoth for many years. The place was a dump to me and It took many years and several owners to bring it up to the world class resort it is today.
(No offense to the late Dave McCoy)
It's now one of the few places I will still strap on a board or simply pull up a table at the lodge and just tip a few back. Great Review, I look forward to the entire list.
I grew up in CO and was used to 70% of steep double black runs being closed 70% of the time. It wasn't until I moved to CA that I realized how the slightly better and windpacked snow (and much much more of it) can stick to incredibly gnarly terrain.
From what I remember runs like hangman's and Phillipe's which are pretty much permanently open at Mammoth would've been almost always closed at many CO resorts.
The reason they count the gondola twice is because they have have two gondola that kind of connects which are the lower panorama gondola and the upper panorama gondola which leads to the summit
Great video! I’m skiing mammoth for the first time next month and it’s supposed to snow for a few days straight before I get there
Mammoth was my go to mountain growing up but now that I moved to Colorado Copper is my go to. Looking forward to how your review on Copper sizes up to Mammoth
Opposite for me. Grew up in CO and skied a lot of Copper, Winter Park etc. Before I moved to CA
The snowfall and terrain in Mammoth and Tahoe is much better though. But if you like bump skiing CO wins by far
stoked you loved it, i work for mammy and its looking like Wednesday/Thursday will be firing. hope you come back again this season!
You should hit Sunrise Park Resort sometime this year, there's 3 entire GIANT mountains, and they're opening the third with all the steep stuff after December this year.
And they're supposedly adding a Swiss Rope so it isn't hike-or-cat-only for the season.
The hundreds of inches of snow and TONS of sunny days put it over the top.
We’re going deep into summer this season 🤤
Best ski resorts for me?
1. Sun Valley
2. Snowbird
3. Heavenly Valley
3. Taos
I grew up skiing at Mammoth when lift tickets were $12. Used to be a bump skier.
I've been to mammoth a few times, but only in may-june late season. I've got to check it out in winter
You didn’t just happen to accidentally drop this vid on their opening day, JB? 😉. Luv mammoth. heading there tomorrow. It’s a pain in the ass to get to, but it’s my fav. Lodging is relatively cheap here compared to similar resorts. There’s good deals at the main lodge or village. They even have a motel 6 in town, granted it’s the most expensive one I ever stayed at, but You won’t see that in aspen, pc, vail or breck.
i get to mammoth in 4 1/2 hours from LA! just gotta leave when traffic is not bad. (aka early)
come back during peak season!!
Fly into Bishop. Its a hour drive to mammoth!
Mammoth. Well-deserved score! It’s incredible.
Disagree as to the score of ease of access.
What seemed to be missed is that is virtually no mountain driving when driving from LA or Las Vegas unlike that vast majority of Colorado.
Mammoth is an amazing place. The one big downer about this mountain is lift tickets. For non Ikon pass holders, tickets could get up to $250 bucks during the peak times like Christmas and President's Week. Besides that, Mammoth is #1!
That's crazy, I lived there a couple years around 2005 so I always bought a season pass, I think it was about 600ish...hard to see myself paying 200 for a single day, u less I have money to burn in the future
ima be there sat mammoth is GOATED
hopefully i see some of y’all this weekend out at mammoth! if you see a dewey weber jacket just say hi lol
you should try hemsedal in norway
amazing mountain might go this season
I bet some of those van dwellers I saw at Kirkwood at the end of the season have seen most of the 470 resorts. Can't wait to check out Mammoth 1 day.
Great mountain. Few downsides. Most of the mountain has to close during serious winter storms. This could be a huge bummer if you're unaware and you have to spend multiple vacation days trapped inside the lodge. Also they can go 4+ weeks without a single flake of snow.
So when it snows you can’t ride it and it doesn’t snow much? Sounds hard to get a pow day then?
@@goodridevibes I grew up in Colorado so im very spoiled. That said, even if you are at Mammoth on a deep snow day it's likely thay you'll be waiting in lines with 18,000 ppl. I have scored numerous glory runs at Mammoth they are just far and few between compared to my spots in CO.
@@je5406 heading to keystone in early December my guy… if you happen to see us around m, don’t hesitate to come say hey 👋
@@goodridevibes you’re very correct. Whenever a storm comes in on mammoth, pretty much the entire upper mountain and the backside are closed. The wind gusts at the peak can reach 200 mph. And when I was there December 2021, I was able to stick my entire 51” ski pole into the powder without hitting dirt or solid snow.
I've days there from growing up in Southern California and definitely been in some very windy storms up there. Mammoth is just so fun to ski.
I think Mammoth is going to rate as good as any resort you rank high at the end of this.
I've ever been lucky enough to go to a lots of ski resorts.
Mammoth pretty high on the list. 😄
the inconsistent snow can be a bummer
How about flying to Bishop Sierra and driving 1 hour to Mammoth? That's what I'm planning to do this winter. Am I missing something? Thanks
I've never gone there, but looking at their day ticket prices, it does look expensive. very expensive. Now over $200 a day per person.
Gotta go to mammoth. Looks so sick
When you come to Mount Baldy in Southern California make sure there is snow... it is just as steep as mammoth believe it or not
Baldy was incredible when I went! I hope we get some serious snow out of this massive storm moving in.
@@je5406 did you make a video when you went to Mount Baldy ? I scrolled through a lot of your videos on your Channel I could not find it
love mammoth would say its a skiers mountain full stop.. 10 for food? 10 for lodging? that's pretty generous (some greats), post covid 5-6. Colo etc options over BLM locked 70s town.. ski in and out would give lower rating 3 that access what 7 miles? road and parking 500 yards down the road walk sucks, unless midseason access. Mountain staff very nice people. Late season king even in late May-June+ need practice on the steeps, without too much risk? Mammoth your go to also. Crazy desert backdrop , unique . Lastly where can you ski through a tunnel? hole in the wall is cool.
Why not review Chamonix . i think you owe yourselves that 10k vert, bazillion restaurants, crazy place. stiff neck from looking up at stations from town.
Still think you should try Canada
Great place, probably done 500 days there. Stay away on the weekend. If you must go on the weekend, do not go to the bottom.
Did you ride June mountain?? Crank it up to 11
Epic epic epic
Mammoth doesn't have bumps, the wind grooms everything automatically. Ive skied more bumps in a single day at winter park or copper than in 3 winters living in Mammoth. So if bumps are your thing Mammoth gets a 3, but other than that the terrain is great
Maybe if you're not a local. It gets bumped up real fast between snowstorms with the ikon/LA crowds.
@@RD1R I lived there for 3 seasons. You can't even begin to compare moguls at Mammoth to places in CO like Winter Park and Copper
@@proverbalizer maybe you got 3 weak seasons lol. You think the wind is buffing anything out of moguls when it's May?
@@RD1R 3 incredible seasons actually. Including it dumping 5 feet on Oct 21 causing the whole mountain to open early. Anyway, the only place I really encountered substaintial moguls was in Avy Chutes.
Have you ever skied at Mary Jane?
You really should rate or comment on the snow this is a big decision driver.
The golden coast 😎
Mammoth blows.....literally! I've made the 7 hour drive from San Diego for 3 runs before they shut the mtn down due to winds! Combined with everyone in SoCal, winds, getting there, it really blows. Park City/Canyons is SOOOOO much better!
Just a shocked European here, by how expensive a day pass is, no big deal..
And I live in Switzerland 😂💸
It is shocking ! When you sell out to the corporations this is what you get.. skiing is only for the rich☹ less and less family skiing together also it's just too expensive... they also want to keep the snowboard Riff Raff out
@@marcusfieldfield4069 it's the corporations that install and run the chairlifts though. You can always hike with the family if you're up for it...but even still the gear is not cheap
Bro a drive to mammoth from la is like 4 hours TOPS
@@marcusfieldfield4069 not true. It's like 300 miles. You only have to go 75 without stops...
@@Dedmuus You’re wrong. I’ve left at 5am and 5pm. If you live in the valley and consider that LA then maybe you miss some commute traffic if you left at 5pm.
I live in Mammoth and all I can say is slowborders suck.
Liftpriserne er vanvittige.
Might be wonderful, but severely overpriced. We are all victims of the duopoly. $$$$$. 😭
Mammoth is pretty trash but if it’s the only resort you can get to being in California I get it bc big bear and summit are definitely worse off
