- TSN Soccer analyst Kevin Kilbane joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss if Spain deserves to be the favourites heading into the UEFA Euro 2024 final, if England's experience in the UEFA Euro 2020 final will help put them over the line this time, and an X-factor for each team.

Spain has beat Croatia, Italy, Germany(home) and France. England needed a miracle to beat Slovakia, penalties to beat the Swiss and a dubious penalty/91 min goal to beat the Dutch, who lost 3-2 Austria to finish 3rd in their group. England played two extra time games and has 24 hrs less rest then the Spanish. It’s going to be similar 2012 final in which Italy had nothing left and lost 4-0. I predict Spain 3-1

Croatia and Italy are shadows of their former selves. Germany's home advantage/bias covered over their cracks. France also a shadow of their former selves. Spain played additional time in their quarter final too and neither team did in their semis. Don't underestimate how strong Slovakia and Switzerland were, you are looking at names and not performances. Swiss were one of the best performing teams of the Euros, Slovakia also performed very well. England had 3 of the toughest, most organised defensive teams of the tournament in their group and still managed first place playing badly. Now England are peaking just at the right time. I think England might surprise Spain.

Not a huge margin and the betting reflects that. Both sides won their semi 2-1 against top 10 sides. England were more impressive in the 1st half against the Dutch. Spain never bossed that game in either half.

Given performance over the tournament it's Spain who are definitely the favourites. It's Spain's cup to lose as they got to the final beating opposition by putting the ball in the back of the net in open play. England got there playing a more tactical but far more boring game style parking the bus, winning on extra time goals & penalties.
Interesting comments generally. But some points are being missed. Spain have payed the best football so far and deserve the plaudits. but England have the better squad and a very strong starting 11, which they are starting to do. This is going to be much closer than some of the ridiculous comments are saying.
I fear people’s hatred for England and being in an anti-England echo chamber are clouding their judgements. I think people are going to be in for a huge shock Sunday and England will win.

I am a supporter of England but the truth of this Euro tournament is Spain have been the most outstanding team and England the least outstanding team. England also had an easy grouping. Imagine if we had had to play Spain, Italy, Germany or France in the early stages. We would have been home ages ago. It will take a miracle for us to be bringing home the trophy. It is a foregone conclusion that Spain will win.

What do you mean 'deserve'? 🤣. Spain had the most difficult group with Croatia and Italy yet beat them both. Had to navigate hosts Germany in what should have been the final and just eliminated World Cup finalists France. Yes, they deserve to win. Unfortunately, the ball is round and there's an equal chance of England beating them in a one off final.

Kevin was my old boss and landlord John's first cousin. A proud son of Preston and a great player for North End (i think the first player we ever sold on for a million at the time), among other great clubs, and a great player for the RoI. England fans went into this tournament with a lot of optimism and rightly so... we had the Prem and La Liga Player of the Year and Europe's top goalscorer. But the sh1t sandwiches that Gareth served us during the group stages changed our perception of the team.
Many of us no longer expected to progress beyond the quarters.
During the Slovakia game, I'd already made peace with being knocked out, until that Jude miracle moment.
From then on, every single moment has been a bonus. Win or lose, England have exceeded my expectation but the resilience that England have shown in coming back from losing positions has made me believe again!
If we win...it'll be amazing... if we lose, fair play... Spain has been the best team so far, no shame in that.
But come Sunday, at least we get to support our country in another major Final... which is more than what a lot of England haters can do.
No debate, Spain ARE the favourites but England are no minnows... and what ever has happened in the tournament prior to this Final is irrelevant now... whether that be Spain playing beautiful football and scoring sh1tloads of goals, or England boring everyone to death.

Danke! As a Spaniard, I don`t mind so much losing versus Germany, a nation I loved every time I visited, but I would really hate losing against England. It`s nothing personal and this is only sports, but I guess these national sympathies and feelings linger as part of our historical subconcious: from the 100y wars in the Middle Ages to the early 19th century there many military and naval battles versus England, whereas none with Germany. Fortunately now were all friends:)
