Walliman, Dude you rock!! Your explainations of the modes and the mechanics are the best on the web, Lots of others out there who really know their stuff are good, but when you explain things it just seems so clear! Thanks man, when i get caught up I'll be on your web site getting a few of your lessons!

Very clearly explained! You're going to help a lot of people with this. I first discovered these modal pentatonics by drawing a diagram of the major scale all over the fretboard and then just staring at it for hours to see what superimposed. Wish I'd had UA-cam back then! :)

Opening up my eyes to lots of possibilities and really starting to understand modes and their relation to pentatonics......thanks to you David!!!
I was actually just realizing I can play B Phrygian shape and E aeolean to kinda "shred" a little and move around the fretboard and still be in A Dorian......now I can use minor pentatonic box 1 in A, B and E as well!!!

@Wallimann My guitar teacher was a jazz musician that taught me this technique back in the 80s. I am glad that you made a video to make people aware of it! Yes, it is a truly effect method. It also sounds like your are playing something far more complicated than it is. I also use it to form arpeggios within the melody; kind of like SRV was good for.

i kind of stumble upon this concept over the years because Im a play by ear kind of guy who started in blues but then found Jambands and Jazz...so this really clears it up for me ...you know like why and how it works...Im never thinking of scales but thinking where do i want to go melodically with intervals so thanks

Absolutely great lesson-being an advanced player, Seeing this was fresh and new-Its the approach you are using- how you look at the modes. And with this-you-can add for example a note or notes of say the natural minor , Em in this case to color the solo-as with the Phrygian as well, B in this case-Nice!

  • @A22by7
