WOW!! I'm pretty sure that in all that mess of books, papers, and notes, when he needs to find something specific, he knows exactly where to look and finds it immediately! But if someone were to organize everything into filing cabinets, this man wouldn't be able to find anything anymore! I really admire him!
Plenty of people would only see clutter when they look at this office, but I can imagine there's something almost sanctuary-like about enclosing yourself in a room surrounded by your research, both past and present, and closing yourself off to the rest of the world.
He could get 13 gallon RubberMaid containers, and dump the stuff inside. Get an index box and give RM numbers, and contents. It does not have to be exact, but put like with like. Go to the index box, to find what you need. It is called control clutter. lol You can cover the RubberMaids (RM) with Mexican serapes, two high, and make wonderful seating areas, and book displays, that you rotate, asoften as you wish. I love it!
