Dickens is so good!! I think it's because his books are so easily transferable and applicable if you get what I mean. As in, they were written so long ago, but they can still be visualised and understood in the modern day. Both the plots and the language use
I just purchased Scenes of London Life and Bleak House in Macmillan Collector’s Library Edition. I adore these little ones and I have 9 others already but no Dickens yet and also I adore London so this is highly exciting. Thanks for the video, I was so glad you displayed Scenes of London Life as I like to see books in videos before I purchase them to get an idea of how they look, maybe you understand what I mean. Great video!! 👍🏼💛
I saw a youth theatre production of Great Expectations when I was around 14, which I really enjoyed, so when I had to study it at school a few years later, I was looking forward to it. I really enjoyed it, and I loved all the plot twists. I thought it was a really clever mystery, even though it is quite dense in places!
This might help, although you might have to be tech savvy or be willing to ruin a physical book or waste a lot of paper printing or photocopying . Me and my friend did this (we bought £1 David Copperfield/Little Dorrit) For the most part Dickens published his books via installments (to gauge his readers response) so why not read it via installments. You and a friend choose a book each of Dickens(preferably one you've read so you know where the cliffhangers are) and split it in installments. Every month send your friend an installment. I know its a lot of hassle(and expensive postage wise) but It was exciting waiting for the next installment and leaving it on a cliffhanger not to mention nibbling away at little chunks helped me read the beast that is Little Dorrit. The tech Savvy way would be to send it in chunks via email but you would have to I don't know copy and paste or something (i'm not tech savvy at all!)
Thank you! It's pretty constructive! Had my C.D's Oliver Twist ordered today.I'm in college now,but never read Dickens before and been a mentally "Oliver Twist I guess.Exciting for reading it!
The line isn’t “please sir can I have some more.” It is “please, sir, I want some more.” If you want that to be your slogan, make sure to use the right one. It’s been misquoted in modern media a million times.
Masha Allah. That’s a beautiful lady I have seen in a while. Besides, your voice is very melodious and thank you very much for the explanations. I’m currently starting to read the Oliver Twist book.
Hey Farah, I am very very very interested in reading more of Dickens, and I totally need a buddy to read some of it with! I would love to give "A Tale of Two Cities", "David Copperfielf" and "Bleak House" a go! I read Great Expectations this summer and loved it, so I am looking forward to delve into more Dickens soon. Let me know if you're planning a buddy read soon! Cheers!
I've really tried reading a few of his books but I find the journey really boring and I struggle to understand how some scenes add to the story. I've read Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, the first seven chapters of Nicholas Nickelby, Great Expectations and the Pickwick Papers, but had to stop because I was completely uninterested. I do wish I found them more interesting but I can't force myself to like it. So thanks for the video anyway - I'll keep trying with his other stories, particularly Bleak House :)
I think it is all right, but definitely not one of his best. I feel like the plot gets too convoluted and spins into too many side stories without really advancing the main plot of the book. The main plot and characters are enjoyable, but all the side commentary on society gets repetitive and tedious.
Hmm, not enough generations have passed for him to be your great x6 grandfather (he was born in 1812) and I don't believe he has any living relatives...

I've not heard Dickens be compared to Neil Gaiman before but I totally agree!

By the way,do you think the color and thickness Of the paper of MCL is their flaws?Would this made no good experience in one's reading?

Excellent. Thank you
I'm in Kuwait and I just received that same copy of A Tale of Two Cities! Thanks for the great video!!!
How is the font in those editions? I like the size, but I’m concerned that the font may be too small.
Those books are so pretty 😍

@@BookBreak i find it hard to read Great Expectations, english is not my native tongue, and I can hardly understand what he says.
Are these editions from the MacMillan collector's library unabridged?
Yep!
Fie on all abridgements!
Pearl S. Buck said he was one of the greatest writers
Amazing 💙🥰
What versions of Charles dickens books are you showing in this video

Two words: *Bleak House*
Bleak house is great, but it wore me out. 800 effing pages.
I'm glad it was worth it in the end though!
