Despite his 0.00 ERA Holmes has been giving up frozen ropes most of the season. They were just finding gloves, and when they didn't there were no walks on base to build a serious rally around. Last night was the awful Holmes - both walks and hits.
Yeah I don't trust Clay in the closer role at all even though he had a 0 Era clay rarely gets a 123 inning someone always manages to get on base when he's on the mound
Tough loss but not overly concerning. If Holmes gets one of those outs, early the picture would be different. A pitcher has only so many pitches per outing. Bottom of the 9th vs. Munoz was pathetic. Volpe was overmatched, Soto clutch, Judge caught looking. If DJ plays 3rd, Oswaldo should platoon with Gleyber.
The bounce back tonight and tomorrow is important. If they win the next 2 games this will look like small potatoes. But makes you wonder, I would like to try DJ at second base not 3rd. But they’re on a role though. Go Yanks!
As a Mariners fan our best win of the season is likely another teams worst loss of the season. We accomplished our goal of not getting swept in 4 games in the Bronx so another win in this series would just be gravy
Well it was a terrible loss, but on the other hand, tonight we get to see what the Yankees are made of, every good team stumbles once in awhile but it's not about that it's about how you react and get up after you fall, tonight we will see what the Yankees are made of! Go Yankees
i’m not in the gleyber defending business but he has been hitting better. hoping he can get up to 270+ in the next month. think the lackadaisical base running and occasional boneheaded plays are just what you get with him. he sort of seems like the kid who ate paste in school. just with insane talent
Absolutely understand the Yanks will not win every game.My problem with last night is Weaver should have stayed in.He threw what,6 pitches in the eigth,so why not leave him for the ninth. This is on Boone.Maybe we need to sub in late innings for Torres for defence.
What worries me is Rizzo appears to be losing his defensive prowess. He has dropped quite a few balls recently! Torres is another one! If these two go that money can go towards Soto,
That one was on me bruh I stopped watching right before the 8th inning home run and then I started watching in the top of the ninth inning and I stopped again so next time I’m watching the entire game
Love all the “fans” that want players traded, or DFA’d, or benched after they make an error, go into a slump, blow a save, etc.. All you “experts” wanted Judge traded 3 weeks ago, now Holmes blows his first game and you buzzards are circling. I guess all of you were SO GREAT at ball that you just retired from the game because you were BORED that nobody could touch your magnificence! Hey, you legends in your own minds need to check yourselves. Slink back in your recliner and STFU!
@@gregpetridis3762 It is definitely not worse than second. Far less balls are hit to 3rd and far less range is required. There's actual data on this type of stuff.
7:49 What's he even talking about? 84/100 Mariners fans would take this game over a World Series? We eliminated you guys from the ALDS in 1995, this isn't even our top win against the Yankees in the history of the team lol. One of the hottest takes I've heard in a minute.
Please trade for the Cardinals closer & move Holmes to set up! Look at Matos, Classe, you have to throw heat as a closer! Not curveball not sinkers bec too often then not under pressure you either cant locate or you throw too many pitches w no clean innings. Wettleland had a track record as a closer b4 we traded for him. Holmes im doubling down he doesnt have the goods!
In the playoffs the games are very tight. Teams are typically not leading by 4 runs in the 9th inning. Having a pitcher that is inconsistent in the strike zone, relies on the hitters to swing outside of the zone for wild swinging strikes is a bit concerning. Worse yet, you have a closer that pitches to ground ball contact with infield hits to Gleyber Torres throwing the ball anywhere but to the first baseman (like into the dugout) you are looking for trouble. If you ask me, it’s a quick exit in the playoffs with the combination of Clay Holmes as your closer and Gleyber Torres as your second base defense.
They won the game. One game out of a four game set. Congratulations. Maybe they’re better than the Yankees……maybe their record doesn’t reflect who they really are. Let’s see how they perform for the rest of the series.
Gotta turn the page. Go out and make a statement also yes they hit into double plays. However, they hit 2 of those balls hard. We just got to score early and hold them.
Derek ! We have keep Torres on shorter rope and find on the farm one who is hungry and better defense at 2B ! Durbin or Pereza soon and be ready down stretch!
Holmes wasn't even that bad. There was an infield hit, a bloop single, another infield hit where Gleyber threw it away to advanced the runners. There was the sac fly and then the seeing eye hit that brought in the go-ahead run. He did walk two, which didn't help, but barely a well-hit ball and a ton of tough luck.
No you don't understand, the same mistakes that they make in the regular season will happen in the playoffs, trading Torres to Miami for the second baseman that was just traded to San Diego would have made a big difference, the error on Torres throw is what created Holmes frustration and loss of control, Torres is a menace on the bases, in the field and the pressure has him in a contract year unable to focus.
Listen Holmes didn’t have his game on last night. But he has been really good and just unlucky. Again I hate to beat the bush but something has to be done about gleyber. I know we need to pick up our teammates but Torres we need to be picking him up all the time. Smh. It certainly didn’t help with last night and his wannabe Tony Fernandez or cano. Right now unfortunately we have no real good choice but shit Torres needs to just have his mental side on the better part. I’m just pissed.
Idgaf what anybody says. We will NOT win a WS with Holmes as our closer. He's just not a closer period. He's a perfect set up man! Nothing more, nothing less....imo
Holmes clearly didn’t have it last night, and the Yankees hit into 3 double plays and left 9 men on base that’s what really hurts them.
You’re not lying at all. These folks up here in Seattle LOVE the Seahawks
As a Mariners fan I know it will get better soon for nyy

I wouldn't worry about it even Sparky Lyle, Goose Gossage and even Mariano have had some blown saves, Its only 1 game
Nooooo, Gossage never blew a save.....well unless George Brett was in town.

It's really tuff xspecially if we lose 2day....i woulda kept weaver

I respect what ur sayin derek smh i understand
That's the game of baseball ⚾️ 162 all games are going to be a battle. No worries they will bounce back. And everyone has there good and bad days.
DJ LeMahieu can play second base. It's actually his natural position.
He’s 36 and has foot trouble. He can’t play there every day anymore because you need more mobility to play 2B than he has at this point in his career.
@@PinstripeTerritory Maybe not but they want him to play third most of the time and that's probably worse than second.

Relax everyone good God. Not Boones fault you want to be mad watch the Knick game 7

Aaron Boone says “Yankee Fan” not “Yankees Fan”

Win this series, all will be well
Go Mariners!

Trade gleybor & dj, bring up the kids that want to play and won’t mess up or be injuries 24/7
Gotta turn the page. Go out and make a statement also yes they hit into double plays. However, they hit 2 of those balls hard. We just got to score early and hold them.
Yeah we had so many barreled up line drives right to their fielders too, these games are just gonna happen 🤷♂️

NY fans, particularly Yankees fans, are the absolute worst. One loss and everybody is ready to throw this team under the bus. Grow up, Yankees fans.
First caller is a clown. Holmes had a flawless start to the season. I’m sure this guy was one of those booing Mo in his worst stretch in 05.

Could turn around and win 10-2 today. That’s baseball for you. Losses like this happen to every team in the league.

Get rid of some of these bullpen scrubs and brin Ron Marinaccio back up where he belongs
It wasn’t a one run lead but three runs. Maybe Boone should have gone to someone else to close.
Should have traded Torres in the offseason.... seriously...
Idgaf what anybody says. We will NOT win a WS with Holmes as our closer. He's just not a closer period. He's a perfect set up man! Nothing more, nothing less....imo
Win 50, lose 50
Last night’s loss was horrible and was prime Clay Holmes! He makes me sick!!
