Floodwater protection. In case of an extreme weather event, instead of the water flooding the surrounding area, this new mouth of the Don River is better connected to Lake Ontario and can alleviate excess water better.

Too bad this one man has so much control over this country and whatever he decides to do can impact this nation so negatively from coast to coast.
