Indigenous high value seaweeds should be promoted Invasive species must either be eliminated or controlled, so that it doesn't affect local environment adversely
Thank you for raising awareness on this issue. I hope the government and the agencies take responsibility and act quickly. I absolutely love your channel. I hope you get more subscribers and your message comes through the board.
Please put some of the references. Also, thanks so much for producing such imminently urgent matter. Indian government seems to be taking the down side of invasive species and trying to make profit from that!!
Seaweed is highly consumed in other countries like Korea, japan etc. on daily basis and it is also good for health. So if we produce seaweed, it also be helpful to achieve SDG
Fresh greens and vegetables are not available in these countries during winter. So they developed food habits based on availability. India is a tropical country with a year around food production. Instead of adopting invasive species into our food chain. We need to develop our indigenous food sources. This invasive species will definitely have a detrimental effect to our environment.
India developed a lot of land vegetable eating even parts which are discarded elsewhere so seaweed wasn't needed, for example potato leaves which are considered poisonous is properly prepared by indians into saag, or sponge gourds which are mainly used by others for luffa is consumed in india. Theres a saying chinese eat every animals, indians eat every plants, other notable examples include, banana flower , banana stem(thore), jute plant, jute leaves, all eleven gourds along with their leaves , pumpkin leaves, corm roots, taro roots , tuber and leaves, mustard leaves, all types of flowers even rose, lotus, bamboo, drumsticks and many more . 😃 The issue is being exaggerated as if it's a national crisis. After watching this, Kappaphycus appears for me a bigger threat to the ocean than the large industries establishing on coastal areas, which will release gallons of wastewater into the ocean. Most people don't truly understand how nature and ecology work. I'm damn sure 99% of people don't even know that Conocarpus is a mangrove species. On the one hand, the government promotes mangroves, while on the other, people criticize them. However, with proper management, this species can actually benefit the environment.
@@shreeveda Yes I am saying in a sarcasmic way, there are lot more issues need professional presentation then the seaweed cultivation. I am surprised that with such a long coastline, India has not developed a seaweed food culture.
If it becomes invasive, it may threaten to fishing, travelling and other diversity of life along the coast.
