You seem to be having issues with the same reel goin backwards. Have you tried tightening the lug on the other side? Clockwise on the lug, then hold it tight and give your handle a little push in reverse until snug. It may help.
Good to see you on the beach. I'm a surf fisherman myself always watching for little tips. Have you used a casting cannon on your heavier spinning rods ? Saves fingers !

I definitely would NOT recommend splashing water into your oil, even if its a tiny amount. A safer way to test if your oil is hot enough is to take a tiny pinch of the fry batter and sprinkle it in.

Why do you wear the chest mouth? Can’t see anything other than your hands and the fishing reel. With the head mount we’d get to see everything you’re seeing. You talked about the black tip and all the jumps it made but we didn’t get to see any of it. The camera view from the chest mount is really horrible imo.
