I always interpreted this song (especially the last chorus) as a conversation between him and her, with him asking her "why are you like this" or something along those lines. Like, "how much did they hurt you/break you that you were so awful to me (the way that you were (to me))", accusing her of having a traumatic past that she projected onto him, traumatizing him as a consequence
Another interpretation here is that rather than being toxic she could’ve been the thing holding him together in the line “You will no longer stand between collapsing walls wearing a smile like you can’t bear it anymore.” It’s possible this is the same person that “Are you really okay?” Is in the perspective of and they can’t stand keeping him from himself but now they don’t need to.
Exactly is the girl from possibly thread the needles, Calcutta jaws/Nazareth. Story wise she seems important and maybe this is the after math of what happened in Nazareth.

Lore/ story wise I believe she is a girl that maybe during one of the rituals sleep used her to be in a human so that sleep could manipulate him even more because she was the one he loved and once sleep possibly possessed her and was controlling her. And sometimes while sleep was not awake maybe the real girl would awaken and she would be the girl that he fell in love with.
I think the girl in the video is a bit of a red herring, in terms of the lyrics. I think it’s Vessels parent or sibling speaking after Vessels suicide attempt in Atlantic. “How much did they hurt you?!” She’s the “they” alright but I think she’s just a visual spectre and that’s why she disappeared.
Yeah I’m gathering this is a lover he lost possibly to suicide? Based on other song lyrics…or just the death of their relationship…but I definitely think he lost someone to suicide as well…amongst other things
@@TaraRyzethat's what I've been thinking I honestly believe that the girl he loved has some major mental health issues and from like you said I think she even up taking her own life and maybe he has probably attempted to do the same cuz he couldn't take the pain but his attempts failed.

There are so many possibilities though it drives me crazy trying to figure it out lol…now I’m wondering in some of the songs like, are you really ok, is he singing to/about himself and not someone else? Because I believe DYWTYLM is him singing to himself…🤔 A lot of the songs can be taken so many ways…we’ll never really know I suppose! Either way, he has definitely been through a hell of a lot 😕
