2017 had to be my favorite year for video games ever, solely due to the Nintendo switch’s release and all the incredible games that came out for it that year. It was such a magical time to be a Nintendo fan
Man the Switch’s launch year was something else for me. I got let go of my job 1 month prior to the Switch’s launch & with my gf being 8 months pregnant at the time. Didn’t even think about getting & started to search for it around May. Shocked that I stayed unspoiled for BotW until August when I finally purchased one. Now my 5 year old got a hold of my Switch & is playing BotW now.
The switch felt so magical in 2017-2019. Nowadays, we just see it as Nintendo's current console, but it truly felt like the switch ment something special back in those days.
I got the switch for my birthday in April 2017. I begged my dad to take me to the local Gamestops around town to see if they were gonna get any shipments, and thankfully one store had 3 consoles coming in that day, while there were 3 of us in the store waiting. I reluctantly traded in my 3DS, but I wasn't about to pass up that opportunity. I'm so glad I got to experience the Switch so early on.
The coolest use of the IR sensor is definitely for Ring Fit Adventure. Play it regularly and would hate to see the next switch lose that ability not just for that game but also for another patented Nintendo inspired applications.
I can't believe it's been 5 years already. I remember the NX rumors like yesterday. I didn't get my Switch till 2018 when Toys 'R' Us was going out of business. Good times.
The launch of the Switch was so much fun. I worked at a Gamestop at the time and it was one of the few times where I didn’t feel like I was being a pushy car’s salesman. The Switch was so cool to introduce someone to. Great stuff
The Switch launch hype was such a great time. Before reveal, I remember supposed leaks about the NX actually being a hybrid console with both a home console and handheld that play the same games (“Fusion Console” and “Fusion DS”), then the actual reveal of the Switch just over 6 years ago, and that exciting time from then to March 3. It was really one of the most fun console launches I’ve experienced
I still remember walking into my high school media room around the Switch launch and seeing everyone playing Mario Kart 8 DX. It was like christmas in March.
I remember playing the Snipperclips demo when there really wasn't much else to play n the Switch! I actually completed the demo in one sitting, and it was fun! I never forgot about that, even if it was just one small game demo in one small afternoon! lol. Glad to hear you liked it a lot, too, Scott! :D
9:18 While the IR sensor is underutilized in terms of uses in Switch games, it can be pretty useful as a makeshift sensor bar for Dolphin, as one Reddit user has shown by putting some Game Builder Garage Nodons to use.
Got my switch in 2019. Really helped me in early sobriety and to just fall in love with gaming all over again in my 30s. I have just about everything you could want in the cloud now but my switch going everywhere with me started it all.
I remember getting mine week 1. Hearing you list the games in order brought me some crazy nostalgia. I remember buying them in that order and just how exciting it was every time a game came out. Odyssey is still my favorite mario game of all time
@@trinity31409 man, the only time I Break Stuff is when I find out my Switch is a Counterfeit from Wish, but hey, that’s what it’s like living in My G-G-Generation
Story Time Comment:Right when I watched the Switch Conference I was sold well tbh I was sold after the first reveal of the system a portable home console is awesome! The dark age of Nintendo was finally over! I traded in my Wii U to get the money for the Switch but I spent the money on BOTW first and then got the system all on Launch Day this was my first time getting a system on launch. The only game I played was BOTW still haven't beat it yet there's so much to do! I'll probably beat it before Tears of the Kingdom comes out next year.
This was such an awesome vid, Scott! It's a bit late at night, but you made me feel an intense urge to play my Switch anyway! lol. I fangirl about the Switch ALL the time! It's SUCH a cool, versatile, wonderful system, despite its shortcomings, and I love it SO much! It's been an incredible 5-almost-6 years, and here's to many more!
@@Kbxbigbro808 that’s… debatable. I had a great time with my Wii U before the Switch, almost all of my favorite games from the platform have been ported over, and the Switch has an infinitely better library. Nowadays my Wii U is my primary Wii console with some Virtual Console games that aren’t found anywhere else, my Wii pretty much serves no purpose anymore other than playing GameCube games, and my GameCube has the Game Boy Player.
@@DCONightingale ‘’The switch has an infinity better library’’ No it really doesn’t lmao. Idk what made u think that ? The Wii U had backwards compatibility virtually console. And u even said it yourself ‘’Almost all of my favorite games from the platform were ported to switch’’ Yh so idk how it has a ‘’infinity better library’’ Clearly u didn’t think this through
I remember waiting in the snow with my dad at 7:30 in the morning to get my hands on the switch. all I could afford was the console and breath of the wild and thats all I needed. It was my freshman year of high school, all i can tell you about that academic year was my first relationship, my first breakup and breath of the wild. I remeber bringing my switch to school and being swarmed with people in class wanting to see it. im in college now and i feel like everyone and their dad has a switch these days. great console
This was the first system I picked up at launch, or about a week later when it was restocked. Breath of the Wild and Blaster Master Zero. Great launch games.
This was when I /really/ got into gaming. I got the switch a few months in with splatoon 2 and BOTW. I definitely have some good memories of these times
The switch's launch was crazy for me. I hadn't been deep into gaming since I was a kid, but I was finishing my college career and had already started in my actual career, and I remember seeing the announcement trailer. While I wasn't as into games I still loved them and was so nostalgic for the GameCube era, and I WAS super into technology, so I thought it looked cool. The day before release I decided on a whim I would buy it, so I went to a midnight release at Walmart, somehow got early enough in line to get one, and I almost bought 1-2 Switch because I had no interest in Zelda, but it seemed like the only real game available so I thought "Whatever, may as well try it..." And I've never looked back. I've owned 3 switch systems now, currently rocking an OLED model, I play PS5 all the time and I put over 30 hours into Tears of the Kingdom within the first week. Breath of the Wild, and the Switch as a whole, made me a gamer. EDIT: I commented this before Scott went into his experience trying Zelda for the first time on Switch and trying a lot of others since then. He described almost exactly what I went through. It's so cool that there are so many of us like that
The Nintendo Switch and Zelda: Breath of the Wild helped me get through a bad breakup and crappy circumstances with friends. It also came out right as I was finishing high school and starting college, so I have super fond memories with it. It’s a system I could never be without, alongside my GameCube.
Awhile back, I passed up on the Wii U. Seeing what the Switch was capable of, fascinated me. Bayonetta, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey. Seeing titles I really wanted, I made it my goal to obtain a Switch, plus numerous titles. Which I have. Now waiting for Bayonetta 3. Just days remain. I have no words
I remember when I told my mom about the switch. I never forget when she said that she can get it for me when it comes out. I got so excited man and later in March 3rd in 12:00 am, she went to the midnight launch and got the last one. I never forgot that day, thank you so much mom. I always kept that switch ever since
A lot of people forget about the fact that the joycons are packed with stuff, like there is an alert light around the Home button, but I only ever saw Brain Training use it as an alert to do a training session.
I remember being 8 in 2017 and going to a friend's house. I saw that he has a Switch and pulled out the joy cons. It felt so mind-blowing to me. I also played Super Mario Odyssey on it. Now I have a Switch since 2021.
I remeber those dark days of the Nintendo Switch, where it would take a minute or two to look through the Nintendo Switch eShop page and you were done. I didn't really have a job either, so I was even more limited to what Dad bought for me because it was a graduation present. So I only had Zelda, Bomberman, and 1 2 Switch. Liked Bomberman, loved Zelda, 1 2 Switch was ok. The only games I had after that, was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mr. Shifty which is pretty fun, and Sonic Mania when it released. It wasn't til 2018 that releases on the Switch became more common. But every console has a barren release so I don't hate Nintendo for it. It's less noticable on Xbox Series X and PS5 though because you have access to the previous console generation at least. Was still a great time to be a Nintendo fan, it was almost the second coming of the Nintendo Wii.
Despite only owning a Switch since the beginning of the year, I still feel nostalgic for the initial reveal and launch. Feels so good to finally be able to play these amazing games after closely following for so long.
You just brought back so many memories, crazy how much time has passed since it first came out, I was in 8th grade then and now I'm a sophomore in college
I remember the closest we ever got to console level gaming was the 3ds because that had Ocarina of Time 3D and Super Mario 3D Land which was exciting at the time to be able to play actual 3D mario and Zelda on the go. But with the Switch the best thing it had going for it was playing console level games on the go and honestly i still love that feature
I still remember when i got my switch. It was a couple of months after Smash came out, and it was amazing. i got xenoblade 2 and Smash, and it was fantastic
I'll never forget seeing the First Look at Nintendo Switch video. After all the rumors and speculation we finally were looking at a new era for Nintendo and it felt surreal.
I think the reason each release was important at the beginning is because the Switch had a lot to prove and A LOT riding on its success. Sooo many people wanted it to fail because they just didn't want to admit that they were wrong all this time about Nintendo being washed out and how the industry doesn't have a place for these kids games anymore. F@ing showed them! To be honest, I'm not completely happy with Nintendo, but I never want them to go away.
I got mine Christmas of 2017, I brought it to high school sometimes to play Mario Kart with friends and classmates, I had a blast playing with them all!
i got my first switch during christmas 2017, and i still remember how excited i was. i got mario odyssey and breath of the wild, finished odyssey in a week and when i went back to school i bragged to my friends that i got the switch for christmas. i am currently using a lite because my original ones LCD screen is broken but i can still play it on a TV so i do still have my original mario odyssey save so i am very happy i never overwrited it :)
Man I remember the launch of the nintendo switch when I bought Breath of the Wild on the Wii U because I was just a kid and couldn't afford a switch. That said, I still have a tone of nostalgia from watching just tons of stuff about the switch and the games. That was the first year I watched E3. When I finally got the switch that Christmas with mario oddyssey, that was an awesome day
Exact same story here, got BOTW on Wii U cos I couldn't afford a switch and finally got one on christmas and got Splatoon 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Mario Odyssey. Those were really good times

The main thing that makes the switch so much more attractive for me is the ability to just pop a game in and start playing like the good old days... no more installing.
You know, it wasn't that long ago, and I was in my 20s, and still am now, but I'm nostalgic for the 2016 and 2017 time period. Idk, I had a bit of a renaissance. Switch release is a small part of that. Don't own one, eventually will now that I'm trying to collect game consoles and games, but I remember hearing from some guys at college about the switch and seeing everyone excited for it at launch. And 2016, hearing about the switch from friends. And honestly, college at that point was like highschool. I was finishing up my core requirements, and it was all super easy. I'd basically go to class, and then spend my time outside of class on campus hanging out at the pool lounge bullshitting and shooting pool. Then I'd come home throw on the tv and just play video games and watch tv. Somewhere in it all I'd knock out my homework, but it was super easy.
Honestly, the reveal, anticipation, release and first few months with a new Nintendo system is such a good time. I honestly mainly want Nintendo to release their next console *just* to feel that again. It sounds stupid, bit I can't wait to have that small selection of first-year games that _everyone_ who owns the new system is playing and talking about. Especially if some of those new games are of the weirder variety. It really puts them in the spotlight and gets more people to try them out when they probably wouldn't otherwise.
I vaguely remember news when Zelda Breath of the Wild came out. It's an impressive game, especially for hand-held. Not a reasonable expense for me though. Maby if I can get it for cheap second hand someday.
I wasn’t there for the hype for switch but when it got revealed I remember being hyped as hell thinking it was the future and when I finally got it in 2019 I was excited as hell for a Nintendo system for a long time and finally being able to play smash bros ultimate
The launch period of the Switch hit different cause I came home fresh out of a surgery to a shiny and slick neon switch and got to spend the entire month binging BOTW while not having to worry about life. Definitely not a perfect console but still has one of my favourite launches for the memories alone
I remember in social class I used to go to got a switch at launch and they had a voting chart in the hallways of the building it was in where kids could vote for the next game to be added to the collection, there was Pokemon tournament deluxe, Splatoon 2, and one other game I don't know the name of. Splatoon 2 was the one that got the highest votes.
I've actually always liked the way Joy-Cons felt. Maybe because I have... small hands. But still, I like 'em and I'd like 'em a lot more if they didn't, uh, drift
It's nice to look back when Nintendo switch launched I haven't had one like several weeks later, Then I finally got my Nintendo switch along with The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and the Pro Controller.
I remember getting my switch in August 2017 and being fucking hyped about it. I was screaming in the back of our car (my parents gave it to my sister and I during a road trip.) It’s what got me into game collecting and really kicked off my love for video games. My collection is 3 years strong at this point.
I had class when Nintendo uploaded the first trailer but my classmates were already watching it and I could barely wait to see it for myself. One thing that I couldn't understand before the trailer release, was how you would play when it was connected to the TV. Would you hold the whole console with your hands and there would be an hdmi cable attached to it? That's why when I saw the joycons it was a jawdropping experience.

The switch felt so magical in 2017-2019. Nowadays, we just see it as Nintendo's current console, but it truly felt like the switch ment something special back in those days.
My mom got my little brother and I a switch for Christmas and I remember we set it up and played Mario Odyssey together. What a time.
You made a big mistake trading the 3Ds smh
The coolest use of the IR sensor is definitely for Ring Fit Adventure. Play it regularly and would hate to see the next switch lose that ability not just for that game but also for another patented Nintendo inspired applications.
I can't believe it's been 5 years already. I remember the NX rumors like yesterday.
I didn't get my Switch till 2018 when Toys 'R' Us was going out of business. Good times.
Other than the last part
That's really clever
Got my switch in 2019. Really helped me in early sobriety and to just fall in love with gaming all over again in my 30s. I have just about everything you could want in the cloud now but my switch going everywhere with me started it all.
I remember getting mine week 1. Hearing you list the games in order brought me some crazy nostalgia. I remember buying them in that order and just how exciting it was every time a game came out. Odyssey is still my favorite mario game of all time
Man I can't believe how it's been since that initial Switch trailer. I remember it like it was yesterday.
Bruh I remember wanting to pick up a switch forever and I finally got it with BOTW for Christmas back in 2017 I was so happy
Have you also continued to keep Rollin' ? When it comes to the Switch please avoid the impulse to Break Stuff.
I'll probably beat it before Tears of the Kingdom comes out next year.
the editing is feeling more like the regular scott the woz episodes with each video.
5 years since the launch of the Nintendo Switch. That’s how long the entire Wii U lifespan was. And the Switch is still going strong.
It’s still going, regrettably. Idk about strong though
@@ChrisStoneinator I know right for real
@DCO Nightingale does it matter ? The Wii U was better then the switch
Is that the guy who owns sonic jam?
Awhile back, I passed up on the Wii U. Seeing what the Switch was capable of, fascinated me. Bayonetta, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Mario Odyssey.
Seeing titles I really wanted, I made it my goal to obtain a Switch, plus numerous titles. Which I have.
Now waiting for Bayonetta 3.
Just days remain.
I have no words
2017 really was the year of the switch for me. I took it with me literally everywhere
Never noticed how many times Scott says "Kinda" until this video.
This switch trailer was crazy when it relesed. It remided me on Wii like to play.
I remember when I told my mom about the switch. I never forget when she said that she can get it for me when it comes out. I got so excited man and later in March 3rd in 12:00 am, she went to the midnight launch and got the last one. I never forgot that day, thank you so much mom. I always kept that switch ever since
I felt myself physically age when you said 5 1/2 years ago HOW was 2017 that long ago
Yep lol
A lot of people forget about the fact that the joycons are packed with stuff, like there is an alert light around the Home button, but I only ever saw Brain Training use it as an alert to do a training session.
I remember being 8 in 2017 and going to a friend's house. I saw that he has a Switch and pulled out the joy cons. It felt so mind-blowing to me. I also played Super Mario Odyssey on it. Now I have a Switch since 2021.
I remember the launch. I wasn't following Nintendo news at the time, so I got myself a Wii U in January of 2017. If only I'd have waited.
Dude that first look nintendo switch trailer hits different. 2017 was just such a good time. Crazy I'm already kinda nostalgic for that
I remeber those dark days of the Nintendo Switch, where it would take a minute or two to look through the Nintendo Switch eShop page and you were done.
Launch was actually cool. Remember using it in public and people being like what is that?
Dude, I love snipperclips. I played it last night.
Wii U games on the Switch. Zelda was just a taste of things to come.
I'll always remember the Switch reveal because it was literally on my birthday. I rewatched it like 5 times lmao.
Didn’t ask for a birthday date
@@Kbxbigbro808Were you uhh, upset at something when pretty much answering everyone’s comments?
I remember the closest we ever got to console level gaming was the 3ds because that had Ocarina of Time 3D and Super Mario 3D Land which was exciting at the time to be able to play actual 3D mario and Zelda on the go. But with the Switch the best thing it had going for it was playing console level games on the go and honestly i still love that feature
Ya snipper clips was amazing!!! Glad I’m not the only person who loved that game!
I still remember when i got my switch. It was a couple of months after Smash came out, and it was amazing. i got xenoblade 2 and Smash, and it was fantastic
I'll never forget seeing the First Look at Nintendo Switch video. After all the rumors and speculation we finally were looking at a new era for Nintendo and it felt surreal.
don't tell me people are actually nostalgic for 2017 now? oh god im getting old
it's been 5 years, that's a long time
I feel old aswell but I was 14 when the switch cameout and now I'm 20 as I'm typing this so it has been some time
I was 17 and a junior in HS at the time now I'm 22.
I was 14 when it came out, I'm 20 as of now, it's weirdly nostalgic
I was 12 in 2017 and I'm going to be 18 in a few months. Don't exactly recall 2017 fondly however
Playing breath of the wild at launch, handheld for the first time, was one of the last time I was awed at a game.
5 years..... god damn.
I still remember the first time I saw the trailer.
I remember watching the Nintendo Switch 3 Days On video like it was yesterday. Time flies.
I got mine Christmas of 2017, I brought it to high school sometimes to play Mario Kart with friends and classmates, I had a blast playing with them all!
nostalgia of news getting a home console and handheld was mind blowing back then.
Nothing nostalgic about 2017
It released in 2017!? Jesus christ where has the time gone
i got my first switch during christmas 2017, and i still remember how excited i was. i got mario odyssey and breath of the wild, finished odyssey in a week and when i went back to school i bragged to my friends that i got the switch for christmas. i am currently using a lite because my original ones LCD screen is broken but i can still play it on a TV so i do still have my original mario odyssey save so i am very happy i never overwrited it :)
5 years already. Good god
Scott confirming that he has finished multiple other Zelda games since Breath of The Wild really makes me hope he Scott The Wozes some of them
Man I remember the launch of the nintendo switch when I bought Breath of the Wild on the Wii U because I was just a kid and couldn't afford a switch.
Mario oddyssey bad
@@aturchomicz821 Take that back mister
@@aturchomicz821 It's so weird how people are programmed to troll like this, whether you're joking or not. You we're reading comments and suddenly decided to stop on this one specifically to be a douchebag real quick, it's almost as if you had to hit a douchebag quota and this post was low hanging fruit to you or something lol. Being an ass nugget isn't the only way to have fun my guy, just letting ya know.
@Kale1300 bros most likely still a kid
The main thing that makes the switch so much more attractive for me is the ability to just pop a game in and start playing like the good old days... no more installing.
Ahh.... I remember this like it was yesterday. I was one of those "im going to stick to my 3ds because its still getting games" people
You know, it wasn't that long ago, and I was in my 20s, and still am now, but I'm nostalgic for the 2016 and 2017 time period.
2016 was better then 2017 don’t group 2016 with 2017
I've had a switch lite for years. Finally bought myself a full system for Christmas 🙏🏼
Scott’s carpet might be one of the most iconic locations in all of nintendo UA-cam
I got the Switch in 2020; I didn’t experience this at all. So weird to think there was a time when the Switch only had a couple of games 😮
The Switch is why I “converted” to a Nintendo fan. This console has the majority of my all-time favorite games and is just so darn convenient!
I’ll never forget the time when I got my switch back on Xmas 2019
2019 wasn’t long ago ?
I remember in social class I used to go to got a switch at launch and they had a voting chart in the hallways of the building it was in where kids could vote for the next game to be added to the collection, there was Pokemon tournament deluxe, Splatoon 2, and one other game I don't know the name of. Splatoon 2 was the one that got the highest votes.
I've actually always liked the way Joy-Cons felt. Maybe because I have... small hands. But still, I like 'em and I'd like 'em a lot more if they didn't, uh, drift
My local game store gave me my preordered switch a day early 👍
It’s insane that your story about watching the switch trailer for the first time is the exact same as mine lol 😮😮😮
The Switch had the best game at launch, and BOTW
Honestly though I have never played BOTW :/
I was 7 when the switch was reveleaed. It was hype. I got to relive the hype when the lite came out.
