this song always makes me think of Christina Grimme. I think I've listened to the live performance her and Ed did together more than the actual record version. And I of course "discovered" Christina via Kurt. so this is an amazing throw back and I love it for so many reasons. ❤️ new contender for favorite version, for sure. Alex's voice is amazing.
I thought of Christina right before I saw your comment ❤ What light she was.
Yes, Christina Grimme. She introduced me to Ed Sheeran on The Voice so many years ago now. This will always be her song to me.
Who the hell is that? nvm cuz idc
So rare for a voice to so perfectly match the purity and beauty of the singer. Extremely well put together. Thank you both for this one!
so sweet, thank you so much
@@ImAlexBlueNow You cut your hair too short. That ain't feminine
It’s so great to have Alex back on Kurt’s channel. The song itself is beautifully sung. 🎵
it's so wonderful to see alex back! have been following her since 2013 and her voice is still as touching as ever. there's something special about her voice that is always so soothing and healing, and it's getting even better and more mature. so happy to see her happy and glowing with a lovely growing family. this has always been one of my favourite songs, and am beyond grateful to have alex and kurt perform this so beautifully
Ahhh memories 🥺 brings back so much nostalgia. “I can see the stars from America, I wonder do you see them too?” Still a question that I wanna ask whenever I feel like reaching out to you. But I know we’re done and we’re good now. We definitely turned into strangers with memories now :) always take c!
the hell are you talking about
I'm crying with a smile on my face and goosebumps all over!! This cover is serene!❤️
Me too 🤍🥹
I love this song so much and especially the book version of "the fault in our stars" is amazing. It's actually one of my favorite novels and I think that the song fits the story so well. I'm gonna listen to your version of the song probably a thousand times now.
It's been a while since you, Alex goot & Alex blue collab together especially doing Taylor swift's blank space

The Fault in Our Stars has such a great soundtrack
omggggg this is one of my favorite songs of Ed! I can relate to this song so much and im glad that u guys are gonna be making your own version. The KHS way 😍😍😍
I love the original All of the Stars by Ed Sheeran. Your version got a different vibe to it, more "hopeful", while I feel Ed's version to be more "sad song, quiet dance of two under a lonely streetlight". It is beautiful in a different way.
Yes Alex 🙏 missed her in your videos, she’s a great mom btw 🙌
This video is just uploaded now right how they had commented 17 hr ?

This woman is an Angel, her voice, her face. Kurt makes me think of the great Mike Oldfield who also plays all manner of instruments and has singers with incredible voices make his amazing music.

💚
It's just another night, and I'm staring at the moon
I saw a shooting star and thought of you
I sang a lullaby by the waterside and knew
If you were here, I'd sing to you
You're on the other side as the skyline splits in two
Miles away from seeing you
But I can see the stars from America
I wonder, do you see them too?
So open your eyes and see
The way our horizons meet
And all of the lights will lead
Into the night with me
And I know these scars will bleed
But both of our hearts believe
All of these stars will guide us home
I can hear your heart on the radio beat
They're playing, "Chasing Cars", and I thought of us
Back to the time you were lying next to me
I looked across and fell in love
So I took your hand, back through lamp-lit streets I knew
Everything led back to you
So can you see the stars over Amsterdam?
You're the song my heart is beating to
So open your eyes and see
The way our horizons meet
And all of the lights will lead
Into the night with me
And I know these scars will bleed
But both of our hearts believe
All of these stars will guide us home
And, oh
And you know
And, oh
I can see the stars from America
This song is based on 'The Fault in Our Stars' book by John Green. It explores Hazel Grace's and Augustus' struggles with cancer and how it can bring people together. The song seems to be from the point of Hazel (like the book is.)
**Spoilers**
In the first verse it is obvious that Augustus is a very valued and important person in Hazel's life as she 'saw a shooting star and thought of [him].' This suggests that he is special as shooting stars are considered rare and beautiful, like Augustus most obviously is to Hazel. This line also portrays the idea that she spends lots of time thinking about him and he obviously changed her life.
The second section starts with 'you're on the other side' as in Augustus is in heaven (as Hazel is referring to the other side of the stars.) So this song is set after his death, near the end of the book. Hazel also seems to suddenly feel distant from him as she is 'miles away', this also suggests she believes she will not die soon and that she can beat her cancer, as it possibly suggests she is miles away from heaven too (as well as Augustus.)
The rhetorical question; 'I wonder, do you see them too?' emphasises how alone she feels and how much they shared together, as here she is being open and honest about her inner thoughts.
In the beginning of the chorus Hazel feels nostalgic of the time she spent with Augustus as she wants him to 'open his eyes' and possibly come back to life (although she knows this is impossible.) Despite this she is still hopeful and possibly looking forward to meeting Augustus in heaven as their 'horizons meet' and 'all of these stars will guide us home.'
In the book there is a lot of imagery associated with stars and Shakespeare's quote 'The fault dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves.' Hazel has faith that the stars will guide her back to him as she possibly believes they have ruled her life (as she has cancer through not fault of her own) and that her fate was already written in them before she was born.
The line 'these scars will bleed' shows how she is still in pain and upset about his death and that it will take a long time to get over him, but she will do it. However as scars never properly heal this is reflecting how she will never fully get over his death and that it will affect her and her life until she meets him again in heaven. The plural on 'scars' also suggests she understands Augustus' pain of them being split apart and Hazel is possibly imagining how upset Augustus feels knowing Hazel is still alive on earth, while he is in heaven knowing he can't communicate with her.
The second verse explores Hazel's memories of her and Augustus whilst he was still alive. 'I looked across and I fell in love' shows how passionate and impulsive their love was. It was instant and follows the well-known phrase 'love at first sight' although in the book it seems that they are friends for a long time before their night in Amsterdam, there is always the underlying tone that they love each other so much they don't want to ruin it by doing something about it. It also connects to the line in the book; 'I fell in love the way you fall asleep; slowly, and then all at once.' The all at once part is similar to the 'looked across' line in the song.
The line 'everything led back to you' again emphasises the importance of Augustus in her life and how much she truly loves him. He was almost like one of the guiding stars that she trusts and follows so much. The fact that she feels everything leads back to him shows why she will never be able to get over him properly.
The second rhetorical question of the song 'so can you see the stars over Amsterdam?' highlights the importance of that place to them as it is a treasured memory of their love. Plus it suggests the Hazel believes when you are in heaven you can go anywhere, and that is the one place Augustus would go to commemorate his love and relationship with Hazel.
The last line is very powerful 'I can see the stars from America.' It is almost reassuring Augustus and demonstrates Hazel's strength as a person. The stars to her are almost a metaphor for Augustus. She is telling Augustus that she can see him and that she will always look for him.
