    Given youve had issue with a few chargers, i have to think the car is the issue hereot rather the DC part of thr car carge interfacd, the 11kw is an AC charger. Which is stange given its an old model, you tjink they would of picked up on this.

    • @StephenButlerOne
      @StephenButlerOne 15 днів тому

      Not if you charge at Tesla. Coat me £20 to charge mine, at a Tesla and works out about 8p per mile over 2 5p at home.
      My 2019 Leon cupra and 2016 GTC VXR cost me 22p per mile to run over 15k and 32k miles. I also had a 21 ioniq hybrid which cost 10p per mile to run over 30k miles.
      So with if charging up in public you'll get the efficiency of an eco car and the performance closer to a hot hatch. It's a good compromise. Also if your charging form home on a nighttime EV tariff of 7p pKw, you'll be getting close to 2p per mile. Which is basically free fun.

      We have a VW ID.3 1st Edition (registered Nov 2020). We did a 1,300 mile round trip from Rugby to Orkney and back in June 2024. We are tent campers.
      We never ran out of electricity, never had range anxiety, never had to wait for a charger and found one broken charger but we didn't need a charge anyway. Out of habit I will plug in when we stop unless we have more than 60% of battery simply because it makes sense to let the car charge whilst it is otherwise idle.
      Our battery is the 58kWh battery and I work on 3 miles/kWh out of pure caution but on the Orkney trip we got over 4 miles/kWh consistently, averaged 4.3 miles kWh over 1,300 miles in fact.
      As we charge at least 90% of the time at home on cheap overnight electricity the car is incredibly economical to run.

      Thank you for your comment and I 100% agree with you. I miss my 3 series diesel. It used to give me 600 miles on a full tank. However, this car only costs £4.90 to fill up at home but you pay a lot more on long journeys. If you are doing mostly local driving and have a home charger then electric is a fraction of the cost of petrol or diesel. On the flip side if you do mostly long journeys or don't have a home charger then I would stay clear of electric vehicles for now.

    • @StephenButlerOne

      I never have to take mine the garage and It costs about 2p a mile, if I have to charge at a Tesla station (I don't own a Tesla) it costs me £19 for 260 miles worth of juice, which takes about 19mins to charge.
      So it's cheap, rarely need to go and fill it up and it has the same performance as my old leon Cupra and GTC VXR. Win win for me.
      My old 2004 Laguna estate used to get 1100 miles out of a full tank of diesel, on a motorway trip. How come yours is so low? I suspect they have shrunk the tank. The Laguna had a 75 litre tank. And in about 2010 petrol went over 1.50 a litre at one point and it almost made me cry one paying for the fuel. I've always filled to the brim and runs down to fumes. I hate filling up, one of the reasons I got an EV. No more gas stations. Or very few in comparison.

    • @azw409
      @azw409 15 днів тому +1

      My diesel used to cost me £80 / month in fuel and did 0-60 in 9s. My EV costs £6 / month and does 0-60 in 4s. Diesel is like a steam engine by comparison, I'd never go back.

    • @phil814
      @phil814 15 днів тому

      @carcampingev yes I see where your coming from but the elephant in the room is 50 odd % can't charge at home and an Ev is way out of the reach for many people, a petrol or diesel is there only option , this government are going headlong into a massive problem if they insist on doing away with ice vehicles , the infrastructure is decades away , it's all very well saying oh you can have a cheaper ev in your price range but mostly they will be higher mileage bringing concerns about the battery life and how far you would get on a charge , imagine all the millions of Ev's on road ( probably 20 or more million) the infrastructure is at best woeful, if you are fortunate to afford a low mileage or new one and charge at home then I get it but the masses don't have that .

    • @StephenButlerOne
      @StephenButlerOne 14 днів тому

      @@phil814 I'm doubting your 50% number, but I've if it's 100% can't. It's still cheaper, if you use the Tesla chargers, than it is running diesel or petrol.
      Costs me about 1p a mile cheaper to run my Cupre Born than it did my hybrid (which was cheap @ 9p per mile), or 12p a mile cheaper than an equivalent car lite the Leon cupra, or GTC VXR, who n was about 22p per mile to run.
      If you charge at the stupidly expensive EV chargers your still cheaper on a like for like car. Would be something like 15p per mile (still cheaper than 22p) But stick to the Tesla stations and youre well in the positive.
      The average person in the UK travels less than 30 miles a day, so once a week you need to fill up half a "tank" which would take you 10 mins and cost you around about £6, probably less. A tenner if you used the more expensive chargers.
      Not being able to charge at home isn't a deal breaker, and it's still cheaper than petrol or diesel. I know this as I did it for a while, before I got my home charger fitted privately.
