I left Umunze in 1994...when I was just 10 years old (lived 2 years here) and I was able to spot the late Mr Ugochukwu's house (one of the wealthiest man from Umunze) back in those days. I also spotted the Angelican church I went to every Sunday on the left after Late Ugochukwu's house. My mother had a business just before the Nkwo market and before you got to the roundabout, I looked out for it....good memories of this lovely town.
I love hearing my native tongue Igbo. It is like poetry to my ears. Greetings from London, UK. I am an Abia State native by blood and love all my Igbo people. The Anambra Governors have tried with the infrastructure. My state is so bad in this sense - probably the worse in the Igbo region. Chukwu aju!!
Greetings to you too. Awww. I hope and pray that Abians will vote out any non-performing governor at the next opportunity. In Anambra we don't spare them. Mbadinuju owed so much salary that school children sat at home for one academic year, he was voted out. Since then, all intending governorship aspirants got the message that Anambra politics is different. Anambrarians are not playing. We really need to take back our states and eventually our country from corrupt politicians. It may seem we are often praising the roads but before Ngige came into office, all these areas could not be reached by road. But now all corners of the state can be reached within half an hour from the capital.
Wow. You just took me on a tour of Anambra state. I know it's been a while that I went through this route. Thank you so much. So I guess hubby is Umunze too? Thank you Flo😘
Thank you Flo for this beautiful blog! You took home once again. I was in Uga, Ekwuluobia, oko down to Ufuma, Achi, Inyi to Nachi in Enugu state this January. Keep refreshing our memory... Greetings to all my Igbo brothers and sisters. From Bowie Maryland U.S
I went to secondary school in Eziagu, which is a boarding school built by the college of education in Umunze. We used to do our cross country around there, via Isulo, Ezira, and Umunze before turning back. I used to stay at my uncle's house in Isulo during holidays and I believe you passed it 23:00 on the left. This brings back memories, I haven't been back around there since 2003.
Ekwulobia has a reputation for having FRIENDLY, KIND, Natives that can HELP you. The Natives work peacefully and that is the reason for the PROGRESS seen there. Ekwulobia attracts non- Natives for settlement......Alex Ekwueme attended Central School Ekwulobia (then called St. John's Primary School Ekwulobia), then got Scholarship to Kings College Lagos, then got a Scholarship to University of Washington, Seattle, USA......I believe in the 1950s or early 1960s. In igbo,u spell as u pronounce.I think igbo states should consider to clamour for a change in how these names(of places) are spelt. Make it indigenous igbo spelling than the baptism name given to them by ndiocha.(just thinking out loud)
Ebere it's known as contraction in language. I don't think it's an ndi ocha thing because we do it with all Igbo proper nouns. For instance for most Igbo surnames, rather than using the long form as it is said in a sentence, we remove some redundant vowels and consonants to shorten the word and make it easier to spell. My friend's surname is Madubuko but should have been Mmadubuuko without the contraction. That double u there is unnecessary. Ekwulobia should have been Ekwulundiobia, a name they got because they received and took care of lots of refugees in their hometown during the Nigerian civil war etc.
