Okay, I looked it up. Basically a "milkshake duck" is someone who gains a lot of popularity but then something is "revealed" about them and their popularity drops instantly. "This duck has brought you 5 milkshakes free of charge!" *10 minutes later* "We have found out that the duck is racist"

Fun fact: Fabio himself claimed once that the goose simply struck a video camera on the ride, and a piece of that camera is what cut his nose. He seemingly felt that the park operators used the popular “direct impact” theory to cover their butts.

the same thing happened to "meta" in gaming terms, it's a term used to describe optimal strategies or overall tactics and such in a video game which came from an ancient Greek prefix, at some point people came to believe it stood for "Most Efficient/Effective Tactics Available" which is just completely made up

A milkshake duck is someone everyone thinks is cool and wholesome until people find out they've done something fucked up. "Everyone loves the new internet celebrity, milkshake duck!" "We regret to inform you that milkshake duck is racist."
The submarine in the early question was the H.L. Hunley, and Chilled was right: it was a Civil War submarine. It sank the USS Housatonic on February 17, 1864. The Hunley sank three times, leading to a total casualty count of 21 crewmen including her namesake inventor. The Hunley's only /actual/ deployment was to sink the Housatonic, which was the Hunley's third sinking itself. (The first was on a test deployment, for example). An examination of it in 2012 found that the Hunley was only about 20ft from the Housatonic when the torpedo impacted, which is why the Hunley sank for the final time.
The Hunley was located in 1995, raised in 2000, and is on display in North Charleston, South Carolina. The center it's kept in does tours on weekends where you can see the actual sub kept in a tank of water, or go inside a replica of the sub itself. I've seen it myself and its pretty neat. Its a lot smaller than you'd think though.
It killed its maker, too! It was a huge drain on resources but fascinating that they went for it.
Fun fact I recently learned from a lost media video: "Gremlins" is the movie that lead to the PG-13 rating being created. The movie was intended for a younger audience, but was too violent and gorey to be rated below R and the movie had to be redone. The original R-rated screenplay became lost media until recently.

The fact that NONE of you know about Frankie Goes to Hollywood's 'Relax' is astonishing to me. It was one of the biggest songs of the 80s in the UK!
The way that they're like "oh when do we get the hints" then immediately after it tells them and they are all distracted (I know it doesn't say exactly when they get the hints and it's probably still random but the timing of it all was still way too funny to not point out)

I know the feeling. I am guessing you are surprisingly young given what you just said. I turned 13 the year my dad's mom would have turned 100. She didn't make it, though she did meet me, passing a month or so before my first birthday.

I'm not a big Metallica fan so obviously I don't know their albums very well, but I could've sworn it was earlier than 1991. I'm probably confusing it with one of their other megahits in the mid-1980s.

Red Dawn was the first PG-13 movie, and the rating was created following the Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where parents complained that it wasn't just PG.

Interesting game...I think my biggest issue with it "as a game" is that the points are based on how many years off you are...but some of the ranges are so short that those questions end up being irrelevant overall. Would be better if points were somehow based on how far off relative to the size of the window given. Ultimately, all Jackbox games are more about just having fun than actually caring about points, but this seems like a pretty easy one to fix. I'm not a big history nerd, though, so I think I'll stick to the Jackbox trivia games that I already have.

xD I blinked when I saw Jesse Owens, and then all of the 1936 stuff just flooded my head.
Owens was treated better in *Nazi Germany* than he was treated in America. Made to enter the back gates for his awards ceremony (I know, that's fk'd.) But he, as well as the Harlem Hellfighters and the Tuskegee Airmen did a lot to change the minds (and hearts) of a lot of Americans back home over the years.
But you also gotta remind.. Xp shit was wild in the 1930s. (The 1940s was better, by large margins.) But it wouldn't be until the 1950s that civil rights began to get rolling again. (Woodrow Wilson tried to ban interracial marriages.) D:
But that's the past, it's completely fascinating to study it, see what can be gleamed, and how to teach it to young people today. Honestly it makes you proud to be an American. ;P We started out rough (British law really sucked.) And we kept to our values and have our society today, and we continue to progress. Slow and steady for the betterment of all. :D

the printing press came about to distribute information to the masses so it wasn't hoarded by the upper class. It was also used to mass produce bibles and was the biggest reason behind the success of the protestant reformation. the press was invented in the 1400s in Europe

38:07 There were multiple movies that caused the PG-13, but the only one I remember is Airplane, which is a PG movie, but there’s also giant titties taking up the entire screen for about three seconds, so it got the MPAA thinking, “Hm, we need another rating for movies that aren’t adult enough for R but also have titties on the screen for three seconds.” Thus, the PG-13 rating was born (four years after the release of Airplane, apparently).

this game is super fun but it wasn't the bolshevik revolution that toppled the empire, the february revolution deposed the royals and then the provisional government was in charge *until* the october revolution, where the bolsheviks deposed them and took power. from the stand point of the answer it's the same year, but the phrasing is just not great lol

Guess who was more racist than Germany for the '36 games? You guessed it! The US. Hitler only wanted to congratulate his own athletes but the IOC said he had to do all or none, so he choose none. But he did end up saluting Owens for his achievements. Owens also could stay at any hotel he wanted while in Germany! Which was odd considering back home he didn't have even close to this luxury. He couldn't even go through the front doors of the hotel he was staying at that was honoring the Olympic athletes. He had to use the back door. AND, FDR never hosted him at the White House. So who treated Owens worse?

Gotta admit; based on what I've seen of it so far, I'm already liking JPP 10 way more than JPP 9. About the only good game from 9 was Quixort - the rest were pretty much duds. Both games I've seen from 10 so far look like winners.
Gonna be honest, I always forget what day Guy Fawkes is because that rhyme makes it so easy to insert literally any day from 1st to 10th (and 12th) and any month between September, October, November and December. More commonly I mix it up with Pearl Harbor day and say "remember remember the twelfth of December" (I double checked and that isn't even Pearl Harbor day, which should be easy to remember since it's the same day Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released, December 7th, "remember remember the seventh of December")
