One of the images I saw spreading after the news of Toriyama passing was the last page of the manga where he asked us to tackle life with as much energy as Goku did. Nobody is perfect. Toriyama included, but he was never striving to be perfect. He was simply a passionate, hard working man who wanted to share his passion with the world. It's just tragic that his passion may have contributed to his death. Which is way too common among mangaka, unfortunately.

Mr. Oda and Mr. Kishimoto are not the only manga artists who hold Mr. Toriyama in high esteem. Mr. Togashi was also a gigantic fan of Toriyama, and he has been a huge influence on Togashi's manga. There is an interview on UA-cam where Togashi refers to Mr. Toriyama as a god. He even credits reading Toriyama's works as the reason he has been so successful in the manga industry. Meruem was even inspired by two of the greatest villains in Shōnen, Freeza and Cell. Not to mention Meruem's relationship to Komugi is also reminiscent of Majin Boo's relationship with Mr. Satan. There are other similarities as well. The section about incompleteness allowing for greater interaction was a bit eye opening for me. I never really considered it that way before, although I only noticed this trend in more recent video games. Dragon Ball itself seemed too fundamental for me to imagine viewing it in the same light, so I didn't think about it like that until watching this video.
As a viewer, I knew that works having incomplete ideas prompted people to fill in the blanks themselves, but I saw it as a flaw. People spending time projecting their ideas into a series that they don't own and eventually have to abandon and move on from. If an idea hasn't been fully realized, or not realized at all, that's a mistake on the behalf of the creator, and people doing the work themselves seemed bad because that work should've already been done by the creator before releasing it. (Obviously, this doesn't really apply to manga/anime because of poor work conditions, but they also weren't the type of people I had in mind when coming up with this.)
I didn't really consider that a flawed work allowing people to invest themselves in it works as a bridge to have them start thinking creatively and acts as inspiration to help them make something of their own later down the line. Or that as a creator, it can be appealing to have people attach to a work and have it influence and help them long after their initial viewing.
Still, I don't think creative works should leave valuable ideas out so a subset of readers can put together their own stories. Not everyone can afford to exercise the creativity needed to do this for even one story, let alone if many of them do the same. Not every story needs to, or even can, play an integral role in someone's life. Maybe one or two, or even a handful of works can do that for someone, but just about everyone who reads or watches or experiences stories is going to leave most of them as is, even if all of them have that capability. Maybe they don't even need to be incomplete to have that ability.
People trying to make the best version of their stories that they can, and trying not to miss out on any valuable ideas, is what leads to the one in a million masterpieces that we have now.

If you are reading this I never wanted to disrespect anybody and I just wanted to share a mental picture I had in my head that might amuse somebody and make them happy as well as praise Plague in a way only a complete stranger can do. I hope this interaction was a positive one.

I, even with a heavy cultural and personal connection to dragon ball still consider it not to be that good as a whole, even bad past the namek saga.
That being said, Toriyama is undoubtedly one of the most influential artists in human history. You could argue he had a comparable impact on his industry as the beetles.
He was not only revolutionary and extremely influential, but also very much himself. His art style is one of the most recognizable ever and every single artist who has experienced his work is influenced by him in some way.
I'm really glad that after the immediate shock where people talked about their personal connections to his work, everyone started talking about his influence over art in the world because I think he should be considered one of the most important artists in the history of mankind.

Most of the Dragonball stuff past the Namek/Freeza saga feels like it is tacked on just because Dragonball had gotten so popular by that point, so Toriyama felt compelled to continue. The Cell and Buu sagas did have a lot of intrresting ideas, however.
I mostly just appreciate Akira Toriyama's unique art style. I wish I was able to draw at least 1/4 as good as he could.

One of the traps is when ppl have kids, whether their on purpose or it just happens, you either get that improvement or like I've seen ppl fall victim to, their not ready and it changes everything but in a negative way.
Time will flow passively, you got time but make sure it's when you're ready.
The majority of ppl understood your last video even without the intro not being something outwardly negative.

Yes, Toriyama said he wasn't supposed to be a hero, but if that was his goal I think he failed. Goku has just done too many heroic things by default. Maybe Toriyama meant "not a typical hero". But for a long time it always seems to me like his view of his own work has always felt a little off from the way audiences interprets it. I love his work to death, may he rest in peace, but I feel differently about his work than he does.

I've been rewatching dragon ball Kai right now after a very long time and right now at the very beginning of the android saga. There's this scene where Trunks explains how Bulma just slept with Vegeta after breaking up with Yamcha leading to Trunks being born and Goku basically says, "yeah, she's always been that kind of woman".......Then in DBS Goku suddenly forgets what a kiss is.

I've said this in other comments about the man but I think people are misguided comparing him to Stan Lee or Osamu Tezuka. I compare Toriyama moreso to someone like George Lucas or Matt Groening. Stan Lee and Osamu Tezuka changed comics in their nations, but Lucas and Groening and Toriyama changed culture itself.
There's validity in the term "you don't understand what it was like before _______". Those fundamental works of fiction that change the landscape forever and even how we approach things within the genre itself. Cinema altered completely after Star Wars hit, it created the blockbuster, the cultural epic and made sci-fi and fantasy mainstream. Likewise The Simpsons altered TV comedy forever. All those comedies that don't use laugh tracks like the office and Malcolm in the middle and scrubs? Thank Simpsons for that.
Dragon Ball is the same thing. It introduced magic systems in the form of battle systems into the genre kinnikuman and Fist of the North Star created. It made a stunning Bildungsroman out of a story inspired by the monkey king and Jackie Chan. It incorporated comedy and serious drama into a singular story which was exceedingly rare before dragon ball began. Transformations, time skips to show our growing protagonists, heel turning villains. Hell, in his love for Ultramans spacium beam and the want to replicate it for his own protagonist, he ultimately created a move that every manga and video game aped off of. Every single giant laser beam ki blast you see a protagonist use owes Toriyama credit.
That, in my opinion, in the highest honor any creator can earn. He belongs with Dickens in that regard. I personally hated super for a lot of things (turning super saiyans into a bag of Skittles, completely rewriting Saiyan culture and just overall boring new design) BUT if I can forgive Lucas for the prequels and I can forgive Groening for modern Simpsons, I can definitely forgive Toriyama for Super.
So long you bird mountain you and thanks for all the fish. Wherever you are, I hope you finally have time to make those models you always wanted to plat with but never had the time.

its very obvious toriyama never cared about anime or manga is general to him manga was like only for comedy gags or like newspaper caricatures and you can see it in the the original series which was intended to be comedic eposidic mini adventures like tom and jerry but with martial art. it was japanese bad humor .but the only thing that captureed the attention the general audiance is the fight scenes and animations. so thats how DBZ was born .where the plot is just a justification for the fights. you can tell the author doesnt know how to write a serious story. basically it was just a money grab .but the first arc is still a classic and the namek arc arc was a decent conclusion to vegetas and goku backstories . this anime is not a great anime BUT its iconic and revolutionary for its time . the raw masculine energy and testosterone and grit in those fights and combat sequences and animation combined with the japanese soundtrack captured somrthing in common in all cultures all over the world you have to consider in that era there was nothing like that there were mech and adventure and magic and fanatsy animes but nothing like dbz with human or humanoid character moving in lightning speed and superhuman strength and fighting until they get all beaten down .sadly after namek dbz became a disgrace . the bad writing and plot holes and uncosistent and uncoherent power system became impossible to ignore . thankfully i was about 9-10 years old when i first watched it on tv back in the day and they aired up until a certain episode of namek.years later when i tried to see how the rest of the serie it was hard to watch i lost intrest in the cell arc and really struggled to finish the buu and dropped super quickly

I think the level of sacrifices made to become an "expert" really depends on where you set the bar for "expertise." Certainly it applies if you're looking to make a living at an entertainment profession like mangaka or rockstar, where the industry practices and consumer spending only support a very limited number of them. If someone wishes they were good at playing the piano, maybe just being good enough to play one of Mozart's piano concertos is good enough - or maybe they just want to play Dancing Mad from Final Fantasy 6 on piano - a level of skill that absolutely can be reached just by practicing for an hour a day over an extended period. Will that amount of practice make you into a virtuoso who can embellish, improvise, or otherwise add your own personal touch to a complicated piece of music? No, it won't, and it certainly won't be good enough to land them a job as a concert pianist, but I don't think that's even a consideration for most people. In my experience, "I wish I was good at X" is a hobby wish, not a career wish.
On the other side of the coin, there also needs to be an actual drive to improve; I've known people whose entire lives were arranged around World of Warcraft, but despite the staggering amount of time and brain space they spent on it, they were mediocre at best in terms of skill.

But i grow up and just stop carring about it like power ranger or spidrman i just tough i was to old for them, but ya know evetualy a did come back to those and those came back me Tobey came back ,and the original Ranger recently came back in a more yet still camp epecial
So where that leaves dragon ball, well i grow up enoug to see it as what it is a flaw yet entretenig show as a teen i may have hated super , and still do a bit but like what , being mad for a show only harms me so better make peace whit it Z and og db still exist and theres so mutch in this franshise to be mad for a show i didnt like
And i did find something to enjoy about it , is ending 10 i belive 70cm window , i cry whit that one , long story short, my aunt raise me when i was a child and when i lost her, i die a bit , all those child things loss menig to me including db , but thanks to that ending i reconected whit the franshise cause i brings me memories of my childhood , ones that i belive i couldnt recover
Learnig that That ending is supose to be the persepective of 40 year old Goku remiding about his granpha
