@Niniene I doubt that. Stelmane was a personal thrall, something Mindflayers(especially lone ones) keep for companionship, like pets. @@gagapandega1668 While true, its still ultimately his desire. You're convincing him because of his risk aversion, not because he doesn't want to do it.
@@Keromimiit’s his risk aversion that precisely reveals that this wasn’t his ultimate goal, he, from start to end, just wanted the brain to leave him alone, controlling the Brain is one way to make sure it doesn’t fuck with him, but it’s the riskier option thus why he doesn’t choose it from the start
@@Firefly11O3 Not sure what to tell you when he literally tells you he thought it through and is only not doing so because he thinks he'd lose. He's blunt and matter of fact about it. Sure, he didn't craft a long term plan for this result as some sort of ultimate 5d chess, but he's pragmatic and the opportunity arises. Either way you're not convincing him its morally good or bad like most attempts at persuasion-- instead you're convincing him that the consequence he's afraid of won't come to pass should he attempt it. Its akin to the concept of law and how certain people would do shitty things if they didn't have the threat of consequences to keep them in check. No different than going up to an Accountant who thinks they could easily commit insider trading, embezzlement or the like and going No Mr. Accountant the Githyanki IRS won't be able to catch you haha you've got this. You're affirming their intrusive thoughts. Except he's a Mindflayer so its probably a very well fleshed out thought.
Isn't that true for all of them, though? Oh, make Shadowheart good. Make Gale no longer want to become a god. Make Astarion no longer want to become a vampire lord.... I guess you could argue a *couple* of the endings aren't simp. But the vast majority require literally convincing a party member to not do what they've told you the entire game they want. Arguably this is pretty much the same. Just instead of convincing Shadowheart to not become a dark justiciar, you're convicing the Emperor to dominate the brain.
@@Niniene Actually, you don`t have to persuade Shadowheart. When she meets Nightsong, if you keep quiet, she will make the decision to throw the spear away all on her own. That`s character development for you. And i don`t think you understand what simp means. In this ending, you willingly become someone else`s puppet. You choose to become Emperor`s b***h, when you could take all the power for yourslef, because you couldn`t hurt papa Squiddy. Your examples with Shart, Gale and Astarion make no sense since you don`t put their interests above your own, and those choices barely concern your character.
The obvious is that this isn't the default Emperor ending. You have to MAKE him do this. It's a bit like saying, "How can you love Shadowheart when that bitch wants to kill her parents?" Like, sure, it's a possibility, but it's not the default. (Actually, it kinda is there...but...)
@@Niniene It directly says that it would've done it itself, the only thing stopping it being the chance that the Gith might stop it. It is fully willing to execute the Grand Design. The emperor has no moral qualm with that action. Only logistical. Combine this ending with the fact that the Emperor was willing to just turn on you if you are unwilling to kill the one person that might lead the Githyanki to a more peaceful life. It manipulating you by showing you a less repulsive body and constantly begging you to become one of its kind. This is just proof that the Emperor is just another manipulative ghaik like the rest of them.
@@reniorjd You can only tell the illithid to ignore the risks. If there was no danger from the Githyanki the Emperor would have done exactly this without giving you any say.
@@senittoaoflightning4404 maybe but considering that not only does he have to be told so he also first suggest that a member of the party becomes an illithid to control the brain. No matter how much you try and justify as him want only power the truth is that it not a primary concern to him until he is convinced otherwise.
Ah, yes. The enthralled ending. Where Tav is STILL under the influence of the Emperor's alluring personality. But we all know, of course, he's just manipulating you so he may sit on the throne. ALONE. If anyone's still wondering why he chose to call himself The Emperor, this ending makes it clear once and for all what his true plan was from the start.
Now the Emperor's motives have become more clear than just the ending with him sitting on the throne. Before this, I didn’t understand why the Emperor was helping us, but after we free Orpfius, he takes the side of the big brain. With this ending, it became clear that he was acting out of a desire to gain more power, and when his entire plan failed, he wanted to create a new plan in an attempt to prevent the hero's plans. If the protagonist couldn't, I'll try another time, the Emperor probably thought. It was this ending that put together the missing puzzle in the game's plot.
He makes it explicitly clear that he believes freeing Orpheus will directly lead to him getting killed BY Orpheus. And to be fair, Orpheus' initial reaction is indeed to express his total fury at the party for taking advantage of his imprisonment. It's only after he's freed that he can calm down and see things more logically, and he only does so after you specifically turn against your ally to protect him. If he hadn't seen you do that, he might not have been able to see you in a different enough light to come around on.
He destroys the githyanki because they are the only ones who can stop him. Although destroying Vlaakith is generally a good thing :). And by the way, the Emperor does not turn others into illithids, in fact, he has no goal to forcibly subjugate people who will serve voluntarily, which perhaps makes him the best ruler of the Baldur's gate 😄.
His main goal is survival. To survive with greater power? Sure, but you need to convince him to dominate the brain, he does not do it because again he is not certain of his own survival. If you let it play out, he just kills the brain. Letting Orpheus live is a threat to his survival, so instead of going 1 vs 5, he decides to switch side as he will become a thrall without Orpheus power anyway
This is the ending you get by rolling D20 persuation on him while he's riding on the high of destroying his former master. His default ending is him returning to his basement to do hedge funding in peace. His motives throughout the game are freedom and survival. He leaves if you free Orpheus because he believes Orpheus will kill him and you will be unable to stop him because the moment Orpheus decides to drop his protection, it's ghaik time for you. Also when you meet him as an enemy he's enthralled by the Brain, not fighting you of his own volition.
This wasn't his plan all along. You use the stones first, and he only takes them when you fail. After he saves the party by yeeting them back into the astral prism. Clearly he did not want any of that to happen. This just looks like mindflayers desire power and you tempt one into taking power. Nice going.
@@bbdf21 in this ending Tav is to him what Astarion/Minthara are to Tav when they say "let's rule together". One person sits at that throne and has absolute power over the rest - that's the evil endings' premise. What would Tav do if one of their companions lunged at them with a knife? (also note how Tav in this ending wants to kill him and take his power, not out of altruism for the people) In the meta sense Emperor is a reflection of the player. Not Tav, but you, the player. Which is why it's always funny to me how eager people are to impose double standards on him for everything that he says/does
@@hamsterpad3093 Nah, Tav is like Stelmane was to the emperor. A Puppet wich believes to act on their own accord when really, the emperor allways holds the reigns. He snaps Tav at the slightest sign of free thought.
@@bbdf21 He literally kills Tav only when Tav attacks first, it's in the video. Otherwise he never acts against Tav unless Tav screws him over first by freeing Orpheus. Tav always has freedom of thought, even in this ending. If he didn't he wouldn't have been able to attack the Emperor in first place. Also Stelmane wasn't a puppet/thrall. That's impossible in the lore - thralls are created by the collective effort of a mind hive and its Elder Brain, and are unaware of their enthrallment (Volo's Guide To Monsters 5e), nor does the game point to that if you know how enthrallment works. Stelmane was presumably dominated - a spell Tav can use on enemies in the game btw. The game gives you only a vague flashback and no explanation, but one of the adventure modules (Murder In Baldur's Gate) it mentions the mind flayer who dominated Stelmane did it for "inerrogation"

Not sure what you mean by "share his rule" because to me it looks like he does just that here?
Basically a simp ending
What’s gayer?
Homosexuality
Or
Ruling the world with the emperor
icl im ready to see the emperor apologists justify this
The obvious is that this isn't the default Emperor ending.
He doesn't do this until you ask him. Basically the main character is the bad influence on the emperor.
Nice going.
In the my last playthrough, I've decided to kill the Emperor. Good choice, that will be my default choice for the future
I still remember some people thinking betraying the emperor is wrong 😄
wdym, even in this D20 persuation check evil ending, he doesn't act against you unless you try to kill him
@@hamsterpad3093 He is taking the power all for himself lol. The only reason you need to convince him is him not being sure if that is even possible.
@@bbdf21 in this ending Tav is to him what Astarion/Minthara are to Tav when they say "let's rule together". One person sits at that throne and has absolute power over the rest - that's the evil endings' premise. What would Tav do if one of their companions lunged at them with a knife? (also note how Tav in this ending wants to kill him and take his power, not out of altruism for the people)
In the meta sense Emperor is a reflection of the player.
What we don’t see is right after this Vlaakith just casted Wish and obliterates the Elder Brain and now the Emperor has no Giga brain
She could've do that? Really?
@@straussenberg286
Yep and how does she use it in the game? Just to party wipe you in the crèche.
@@Videogal1993 I love that. It is just a perfect bit of characterization for her. She could just use wish for something useful, but instead uses it out of pettiness.
Just perfect to show her true nature.
@@straussenberg286 yeah if you mouth off at her in the Creché she casts it to instant game over you.
In her official 5e D&D character stats she has the Wish spell listed as one of the spells she can cast.
It should be added casting Wish is super risky as you can lose the ability to do so and all spells you cast for a while hurt the user and the caster’s physical strength are dropped drastically.
