    Another stellar video Martyn 😊 of all the channels, I keep such a close eye on yours for the content updates always, we are kindred spirits on our timing for this journey, you are however, FAR more seasoned than me in terms of the hobby but it’s great watching the growth on UA-cam.

      Thanks Hylt. Yes it does feel like we're on parallel yet very different tracks, which is kinda cool. I'll probably talk about this in an upcoming video but I am in no way seasoned in this. I only started showing my progress after a year of learning about this hobby and then 6 months of building on my own in a garage. You've showed your learning journey right from the start, which is a very brave thing to do. But in doing so it is very inspiring to other people wanting to step into this great hobby.

    Just discovered your channel, the layout is looking good! I'm exactly the same with repetitive tasks, they drag me down! Regards, Chris.

      Thanks Chris. Likewise with your channel, have just seen your videos about JMRI. May have a few questions for you when I’m in a position to think about automation!

    Whoa, this is fascinating. If I can recover from a health problem this is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking at doing here. Split level, multiple location. Love the idea of the heritage line, anything goes there :) The Southern Mainline has me thinking, is it based on the Brighton mainline? makes me think of Quarry/Merstham Tunnel area?

    • @DonningtonCastleModelRailway
      @DonningtonCastleModelRailway  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks! The layout is very much a pastiche of ideas and locations. I guess there are strong hints of West Berkshire in there as features near Donnington Castle are included. Also slight themes from Basingstoke and Reading areas where Southern and Western come together. The tunnel does have hints of the South Coast about it with the chalk, but its more been designed based on the physical constraints of the layout than any strict prototype. The heritage line is separate so other people in the family can run older DC models and as you say it gives excuses to run anything. Look forward to seeing what you build next!

      @@DonningtonCastleModelRailway thanks, what you are doing is brilliant. Certainly will be following. What size is your layout?

    • @DonningtonCastleModelRailway
      @DonningtonCastleModelRailway  9 місяців тому

      Its just smaller than half a double garage. I can just squeeze round the back and sides to access those areas. I probably should measure it at some point and get exact measurements!

    Thanks Martyn. Really enjoying the channel and following your progress. I'd be interested to know what height clearance you have where the heitage line runs under the main lines. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks Andrew. I showed some of the measurements in an episode of Track Talk although they were more focused on the retaining walls. I’ll get the tape measure out and try and find the lowest point for you.

      On the left hand side of the layout, where the bridge will be, the smallest clearance between the top of the rails and baseboard is 60mm. The cork and track are roughly 7mm so just under 70mm from top of baseboard to bottom of baseboard.

    Hi Martyn.
    500 plus subscribers isn't an excellent result.
    Treat yourself to some "64 litre Really Useful Boxes" to house your empty boxes.
    Also purchasing 4x "Torri Laser Stock Trays Only" ready to assemble to fit the 64 litre boxes.

      When I started out I wasn’t sure if anybody would be interested in watching me learning how to build a model railway for the first time. So to get to this point is unexpected and really humbling.
