- Vinyl (Sony PS-X5) - Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
Turntable: Sony PX-X5 Direct Drive
Phono Cart: Grado Red
Preamp: Rega Fono Mini
Stereo: Marantz 2235b
Notes -- Here's a recording from the fabled George Peckham cut of Led Zeppelin IV. You can find a Peckham by examining the run-out grooves on the record. Look for "Porky" or "Pecko Duck." Fortunately, these are very easy to find in used record shops. This is the best and most dynamic Zeppelin you'll ever hear.
The turntable is my dependable Sony PS-X5 Direct Drive, and the phono cartridge is a Grado Red. The phono preamp is the Musical Fidelity V-LPS (w/PSU), and is connected to a Marantz 2235b stereo receiver.
I've learned that not all Porky Zeppelin IV's sound alike. Some pressings are better than others. The best thing to do is just sample records until you find one that sounds good to you. Also, you need to examine your stereo system. What is your turntable and phono cartridge? Perhaps it's time for an upgrade? If you want a punchy, dynamic sound, I'd recommend the Audio Technica 440mla, or Ortofon 2M Blue.
so here's my question, my vinyl copy sounds JUST like this (a Porky's Prime Cut ;P) and the only thing that aggravates me is that it just sounds so dull to me. I'm really intrigued, because basically every other vinyl I own sounds sonically superior to any other format in which it's been issued, but sadly Zep IV just never did it for me in vinyl. It's sound seems very compressed to me, and I wonder could it just be me or are there better copies available?
SO, I WAS ONLY 9 LOL :D
But i agree with you great track, great album
I WAS 15.S, WHEN THAT CREATED... CLASS!
