I don't have a technical job like yours, but I find myself moving back towards analog things, or perhaps older digital tech that has no connectivity. I think whatever high trust society we may have had is being attacked from both ends.
Me, too. I find that I miss the little things, like an analog pc keyboard where touch sensitivity and key pressure are real things, not just an on/off key interface.
The future is spiritual - Proverbs 2:21, 22, Psalm 37:11, 29, Mathew 5:5. Fascinating video, sadly it probably won't reach too many people, most likely probably only those who are already thinking it. Still, very important. I'm in data science and i know very smart people in computer science who also understand all this. All this interconnectedness will be our society's undoing if it fails. We can joke about becoming Amish, but the Amish have been affected indirectly. They prefer to buy hay vs. harvesting it, because it's easier. And other similar conveniences replace their self-sufficiency. It's one thing to live like the Amish because you're used to it and you're set up for it. It's quite another to suddenly be thrust into it by some systemic disruption. Won't work for most. Lots of food for thought in this topic.
I agree wholeheartedly..... Things aren't better with digital!! It's not sustainable either as you state. Back twenty years ago life was more secure in every way. We are getting pilfered every time you turn around. Subscribe for this that and the other for a monthly fee for everything under the sun. Ridiculous.... I see us going back also. How do we get there ?? It's not going to be easy. Or is it. We have ourselves hooked up to a phone too hard. Put it away!!
You probably just need a cad drawing viewer license not an editing version. The cost difference is often an order of magnitude. A lot of this has been caused by companies like Autodesk increasing subscription fees to the point of extortion for their customers. Once a company standardizes on their drawing file format and generates millions of drawings the switching costs are huge. Autodesk exploits this to the max and forces the kind of crazy reactions from customers who turn all those licenses off and see who cry’s loud enough to get turned back on…

Digital isn't necessarily an improvement over analog technology, and old systems often outperform the 'new and improved'. Consider how much worse modern open TV signals come in, with glitching, freakish overlaps and extended freezes, over the occasional snow we used to get. Or remember how much clearer phone reception was with older, plug-in dial telephones. Inferiority is being engineered into systems on purpose.

cancelling Audacity was a PITB. I had to repeatedly contact them to cancel, meanwhile I kept getting charged month after month. It finally stopped.

If those in "authority" want "us" to go digital, we're going digital. They don't care how it affects your life, as long as it makes theirs easier.
