In regards to the 'Ashley Book of Knots'... this is indeed a fabulous work that anyone interested in knots should own. However, please keep in mind it was written shortly before modern synthetic lines became available, and as Clifford Ashley sadly passed away shortly after, was never updated taking them into account. Some (but not all) great old knots, that served man so reliably since antiquity... just don't do well in modern synthetics... sad but true. For more please see the Wikipedia 'Ashley Book of Knots' entry. They also have an entry for 'Clifford W Ashley'. Also note that the 'Internet Archive' includes a complete freely viewable/searchable copy of the Ashley Book of Knots. There's a link under the 'External Links' heading at the end of the books Wikipedia entry.
@@JasonsKnotChannel Doesn't relate to terminology at all... just that you'd mentioned Ashleys book. Yes, there are fabulous books... works by Brion Toss[1] are some! He takes into account real world practical applications and modern materials[2]. Some titles are 'Knots', 'The Riggers Apprentice', 'The Riggers Locker' & 'The Rigging Handbook'. They are more nautical & rigging oriented, but do cover a great selection great everyday pratical knots, simple easy to remember tying methods, uses, pros, cons cautions etc. [1] Sadly, Brion recently passed away. [2] But has little coverage of 'exotics'... like Dyneema etc... unless he updated some of his books that I'm not familiar with.

Very good, but should differentiate between a "turn" and an "round turn." The distinction is very important, at least for sailors!
