A Great Day Trip on the NS/CSAO Lehigh Line (2/28/2015)

- On this last day of February, taking advantage of the good (but cold) weather, I made a day trip to Jersey along the Lehigh Line. This was the first weekend after I returned from a two-week vacation in China to celebrate Chinese New Year. While still having some leftover jet lag, I figure spending some time trackside would help a bit.
I began the day at Three Bridges, NJ on the NS side of the Lehigh Line. Not much trains action between 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM but one train to point out was intermodal NS 21M with a Ferromex SD70ACe. I then headed five miles west to Flemington, NJ at Stanton Station Rd. Three trains passed within a half hour there before a long lull sets in (I believe I missed an empty tanker NS 67Z and may be intermodal NS 211).
Then I made my way back east past Manville and Bound Brook to Piscataway at the Prospect Ave crossing (my first time there), which is a very popular spot for many local railfans. Train action picked up a bit starting with mixed freight NS 33K with an RS3L ex-Conrail C40-8W leading the way followed by a rerouted empty tanker K485 with CEFX and Canadian Pacific. Later in the day Conrail local MA-80 slowly headed west with NS GP38-2 and CSX GP40-2 closely followed by autorack NS 15J with NS & CSX on the opposing track. The train to finish off the day was in my opinion quite a surprise, intermodal NS 25V led by the Penn Central heritage unit #1073. As you can hear in the video, as soon as the head end passed by, someone next to me got very excited!
Anyway, what I thought was going to be a rather slow day turned into a great day!
*Note: I'm really really NOT GOOD w/ train symbols. I try to get as many as I can through my scanner or asking other railfans around me (if any).*
I think it sure is good to find the Ferromex on this train, really rare :D! And did you end up seeing the Operation Lifesaver Dash 9 leader on NS 21M?
I have seen the CEFX AC4400CW on my way to EB Games at Leslie and York Mills in December of 2018.
I see some ex-Conrail Dash 8 variety on NS 212 (Standard cab and wide cab).
Great video! I have yet to see any of the NS Heritage units myself. I think I would foam too!!
chessie0414 Thanks! It seems the NS heritage units right now like to traverse some the northern trunk lines (Pittsburgh Line is a great example) and maybe coal country around West Virginia.
Excellent Video ... Enjoyed every minute of it ... : o)
Excellent video Allen.
***** Thanks, Hans!
很冷喔,感謝你提供精彩的影片。
亞米克斯-Apple 老爹 感谢你的留言!是的,那一天确实是很冷,而且这个冬天雪也下了不少。
Awesome catches!
Raillashup Productions Thanks!
-.-) So Conrail #MA-80 is very slow, huh? I'm going to miss trains here.
._.) Maybe NS 5637 and CSX 4415 are gonna drop off the train here @ Prospect Avenue.
`_′) Please, MA-80! Continue your work here!
I caught an NS I12 on December 26, 2015 with an operation lifesaver engine, did you see him on the lehigh line?

What does Ferromex stand for?
Good video.
MultiMusicianman Thanks!
I always like seeing videos of trains, but what always gets me is when almost NONE of the trains have friendly crews. And it seems like it happens to the same railfans, why is that? Me and my friend get friendly crews a lot, but there are others I am subscribed to that have almost no instances where there was a friendly engineer. Do you know why?
Yoshi the Railfanner I don't really mind that to be fair...
