i hear about this a lot. how men feel like they cant express their feelings. im a woman so i cant fully relate, obviously. so i find it so interesting. Why would a man belittle another man for expressing emotion or feeling? thats absurd to me. feelings are feelings and men and women both have them.
This is such a healthy parent child dynamic. I can tell the son is very comfortable and open with him, but also has respect. The dad is not trying to be a friend. He's a FATHER. He provides guidance, live, support, and redirection when necessary. Children WANT this, need this, and it's so refreshing to see.
No, I think he is friends with his dad. I don't tell people I'm not friends with shit like that... I'm friends with my parents but I still respect them and the fact that they are my elders, and as I minor I did everything they told me to do. However, I was and still am friends with them... I'd probably never respect them if I wasn't.
You misunderstand me. I didn't say that they weren't friends, or that the dad was not friendly with his son. I simply said he's not TRYING so hard to be that. In a healthy parent child relationship where love, support, and trust are the foundation its natural that a child may even come to recognize there parent as their BEST friend. But I feel some parents forget the importance of rearing a child, and how critical guidance is, ESPECIALLY in our dark, confused world today.
When I was a kid I was embarrassed when my dad walked me to school and held hands everyday. One day, I released my hands and my dad got the hint so he stopped. In 2016, I held my dad's hands till he passed away from heart failure. Looking back, I wish I never did that when I was a kid because I loved him very much. We need to cherish our parents every moment so that we never regret:((
Zra J Sorry for your lost, but don’t be regretful. It’s natural for children to want to become independent of their parents at a young age. You were young & inexperienced. Like you said, IF you had the knowledge back then, but you didn’t. The good thing is you held his hand & stood by his side in time of need & expressed your unconditional love for him. This is what matters.
Don't beat yourself on that one. I'm a dad myself and when my kids started to pull that stunt on me, I wasn't offended, I rather felt butterflies because I was witnessing my kids deploying their wings and standing on the edge of the nest. I had the proof that I was raising them right to be independent and autonomous, and it was just a first step. They love me, I love them and your father's feelings towards were just the same, never doibt it! Stay safe!
There was such a subtle moment in this video but I loved it. Cyrus is explaining what goals he has and how he can achieve it. Cyrus says, "wait, you graduated from college right?" and Calvin responds, "Yes". And Cyrus continues on his list... "graduate college" etc. This boy definitely sees his father as a role model and this was such a nice way to show it.
Heather Deitchman Thats sweet but thats not what he said. He said "graduate from college, you do graduate from college right" he was making sure that is the correct terminology for finishing college, like that there could be a different term for it so he was checking if he was saying it correctly. Thats why his dad smiled like that and said yes because he is young and it was cute that he had to check if he was right. Hes only in 8th grade despite looking much older, but anyway thats what was said.
Hmm, upon further reflection from your comment he did seem to say "Wait, you graduated from college" but he just misspoke and said "graduated" instead of "graduate" which changes the meaning. I still think he wants to be like his dad though!
I definitely think he wants to be like his dad, I’m sure both of his dads. I loved the moment where he said, “Because where I came from, I don’t remember, but I know it would’ve been a bad place, and I know that you basically saved me from that situation- and *other dad’s name*! But now, basically, it’s like I’m a younger you now.” And then explains how they both came from unstable situations and got adopted into loving families, and both overcame hard things as families. But he was so quick to add that his other dad also saved him, there’s very much equal love there, and comparison to being a younger version of his dad was really heartwarming.

Samantha you’re literally Lying. And what you’ve said is rooted in racist ideology. And is Gaslighting. People who don’t have issues are the ones who acknowledge our skin colour differences and are comfortable with that without negating the existence of someone. You need to ask yourself why you reacted negatively to this comment - it clearly triggered something in you that you need to deal With. Only white people say I don’t see colour. Erasure at its finest. And completely ignoring the lived and real experiences of black people
i cried watching this. knowing there are families out there like mine. me and my siblings were all adopted by my moms. i relate to this so much . i appreciate you guys making this video. xx
What was it like growing up with two mum's ? I ask because my partner and I always talk about having children but my biggest fear is the way other people will treat them. Even though I know it's nobodies business ....
Ingrid Ingrid I’ve always lived in an affluent/liberal town so i never felt ostracized or different. Growing up with 2 moms is great. Even though we’re not an average family I don’t think I missed out on much. I get asked “do you ever wish you had a dad?” a lot or “do you ever want to meet your birth parents” which I guess bothers me a bit just because why would I want a dad when my moms have given me everything a dad couldn’t or could? That’s only occasional. People mostly have a positive reaction like “you have two moms? That’s so cool!”. I think it is. :) id be happy to give u more info if u need it
mickiellah thank you that was my thoughts exactly why if our children look good they always say modeling or basketball there so much opportunity’s out there like been doctors we get brain power too
Maybe he might want to model. No not every kid can be a model or basketball player but they don't have to be doctors or lawyers. People can be truck drivers, trashmen, waiters. We need all kind of people.
Seventh grade is ALWAYS a trash year, for every single kid in history and for every single person who loves a 7th grader. At my school, the 7th grade teacher was never the same for more than 2 years - it's a room full of hormonal, angry little beasts. ;) But Cyrus, you are past that now, so it only gets better! I love this family. Bless them!! There is obviously a lot of love and support here, and it's lovely.
Apostrophe T I had to think back...7th grade was a trash year for me. New school, my favorite older cousin was away in Kuwait, I got behind in Math because my teacher picked and filed at her nails the whole class, and I had to make friends with some of the most boring 7th graders on the planet. 😴 But Yes, it gets better!
Apostrophe T it’s so true. Most trashiest! 😂 it’s like 6th grade year I planted my seed so I spent the year trying to get acclimated waiting on my seed to grow. 7th grade brought in a horrible storm that washed tat seed away. I was like a baby zombie. 8th grade year I bloomed and never looked back 😩
7th grade sucked! We still had junior high (7th, 8th, 9th), so youngest kids in the school, felt like we had to prove ourselves at a new school, our parents didn’t understand anything we said and what passed in 6th grade wasn’t going to work in 7th. It was awful. My only saving grace was that I was already friends with most of my upper classmates and everyone in my own grade.
MacKenzie Thomas lol no, kids need parents. The problem today is too many parents try to be their kids friend as opposed to their parent. You can and should have open dialogue with your kids but that line between parent and friend shouldn’t be blurred in my opinion. The biggest thing that helped me avoid trouble in life was having a father that was just that a father. Provided a lot of discipline but at the same time made it clear he loved me. When your a kid you hate the strict-ness and discipline but as an adult I look back thankful that I was raised that way. Just my thoughts
@@Kingkmf well my mom is both my parent and my friend and I'm doing great. She is one of my best friends and I'm a straight A student and I've never even had a detention. If I did anything wrong my mom would tell me and teach me right from wrong. She is someone I can go too when I am having a hard time which not many people can do with their parents. And I didn't have a super easy childhood either but I never let it effect me because my mom was their for me
@@mackenziethomas4840 right . I hate how, especially in the black community (I'm black, speaking from experience) people think that the worst thing you could do as a parent is try to be your child's friend. Like you said being a parent AND a friend is the perfect mixture. What they don't get imo js that once the child becomes an adult and independent he will need a friend more than a parent and the relationship needs to be there and healthy! No wonder why so many children cut contact with their parents when they don't 'need' them to solve a problem, because we were raised to only see them as problem solvers lol not as confidents and friends!! For a healthy relationship, we need to try and be both!!! Trust is cultivated with time not once your child is already old enough to be mature!!!
@@Kingkmf she did mention a parent AND a friend. Parents who can have an open dialogue with their children and still set down the law are awesome. That's what she meant. My mom is my friend as well as my parent and I'm comfortable when it comes to talking about stuff, while still acknowledging she is above me. My dad is more of a parent where he doesn't really interact with me as anything but a parent. I don't feel comfortable when it comes to talking about things with him. Being both a friend AND a parent helps kids feel more comfortable to talk about things and that's what's really important, especially today where bullying and mental illness have become so prevalent.
My parents were strictly parents with fun but once I hit a certain age they became both. There’s nothing wrong with being a parent and a friend. It’s about knowing your child and what is right for them in that moment. They also came to that point at different points in my life but it was exactly what I needed.
I can assure you..skin care or not it is natural...im almost very sure he is south Sudanese and yep its in their genes....perfect melanin inch after inch
I really dont see what being gay has to do with anything especially adoption or connecting with children/parents.... really. Its just an unnecessary detail.
‘I just love everything about you’. Words I dreamt that my father would have said to me growing up but never happened. Just proves fathers don’t have to be blood to truly be amazing. What an amazing family ❤️
The way he expressed his love for his son was one of the beautiful things I’ve ever, EVER heard. I learned how to express my own feelings better. Wow, thank you

Wow! I love the way he can so concisely express the way he feels and wants, especially for a young boy. You can definitely tell his dads provide a very open and comfortable environment. I love it 💖💖💖
This makes my heart smile......so many positive feelings from this video. It has so many lessons that debunk perceptions about so many issues like gay men raising children, parenting, adoption, black men and their feelings, raising black teen boys in America....and the list goes on. One of the most powerful and positive imagery I've seen....I'm so touched by this♥️♥️
This is so sweet. You can really tell that the dad is a great parent based on how close they seem to be. And Cyrus seems like such a sweet and intelligent boy! It's unfortunate that there are so many kids in foster homes who have so much potential but are limited by their opportunities. This video makes me really consider adopting in the future if I ever plan to have kids.
Beautiful piece! As a South American adoptee I related to this in so many ways. My father and I had this moment after I had come out and my first two relationships, we covered every topic and turned over every stone and healed wounds. We get each other now and I love my father very much.
John - Thank you very much for sharing your own relation to this conversation. It is beautiful to hear your relation and connection has healed with your own father. Have you ever had a chance to ask similar questions to {THE AND} cards?
Lats talk about society always assumes black children are older than they are .... that's really dangerous. Lets stop centering white children as what "kids" are supposed to look like.
Is there a part 2??? I love their relationship it’s soo beautiful it makes me want to cry!! 😭😭😭 and I love how Calvin’s parental technique is so chill but firm in way and I can tell cyrus really respects that!
“Im a younger you”, he looks up to his dad, he knows his dad is in a good place and is doing good things. I could feel he was saying this with a goal in his mind to become the image of the good person his father is 💕
Wow, Calvin the glow in your face when you explain why you love your boy. Deep genuine love right there. You raising such a mentally strong human being. Well-done Calvin for appreciating your day and good job dad for , unconditional love.
Calvin, You're doing fantastic my friend. I love the dynamic between you two. I can see and feel the respect and love your family centers on. Thank you for being an excellent human. You've raised a sweet son.
That ending made me tearful. Cyrus's dads did SUCH a good job with him. I bet his dad loved hearing his appreciation and felt proud that he raised him to be able to reflect on that.
Omg... the Dad is a truly exceptional human being. You have your place in heaven Mr, if only there were more like you walking the earth. Wow, you authenticity, time and love for this child bounces off the screen. You brought tears to my eyes.
This was an amazing example that families are not defined by a persons sex or sexual orientation but rather by LOVE. Love is what makes up a family, it doesn’t matter if you’re female, male, a single parent, Black White Hispanic Asian purple green blue or red, it’s the love, care dedication trust and understanding. What a wonderful family!
Lol the need therapy because they have views that differ from yours ? Okay..... ppl can like and dislike whatever they want. The problem is when ppl feel that their preferences should control other individuals lives.
Sadly, most children from straight people just are not planning out and tried for. When you adopt a child, that is your absolute goal -- not getting off.
im a young lesbian adult and ive always wanted kids but this made me cry because raising a child and showing them the world and showing them real love, kindness, safety (especially to foster/adopted children) is something i undoubtedly want in this life. ive wholheartedly decided on foster care and adoption, even through all the hurdles and difficulties i want to make a difference in that child or childrens lives, i want to show them the true heart of family. im only 19 but when im older i cant wait to start my family. i cant wait to make a difference. 💖

I will pray for those around you who have to listen to your empty dull brainless words.. Have a Great day Sammy... Oh, here's one more quote for the road...lololol I LOVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEE THIS DYNAMIC. Young African American son, being guided and LOVED by a father that knew he would be a GREAT DAD because he had so much love to give ....and walked through those same steps being apart of the foster care system. MUAH!!! You guys are BEAUTIFUL!!! Cyrus is so handsome and flawless beautiful skin!!!
Samantha you’re literally Lying. And what you’ve said is rooted in racist ideology. And is Gaslighting. People who don’t have issues are the ones who acknowledge our skin colour differences and are comfortable with that without negating the existence of someone. You need to ask yourself why you reacted negatively to this comment - it clearly triggered something in you that you need to deal
With. Only white people say I don’t see colour. Erasure at its finest. And completely ignoring the lived and real experiences of black people
LOL
i cried watching this. knowing there are families out there like mine. me and my siblings were all adopted by my moms. i relate to this so much . i appreciate you guys making this video. xx
M
:) id be happy to give u more info if u need it
@@Tweetypi16 I'm curious for the same reason
@@acier4334 that's amazing thank you so much for letting me know! (: Yeah one more question. How did they explain it to you when you were younger ??
Why is no one talking about boys eyes? They are so pretty
Yeah, everyone is saying he is gorgeous tho, thats what i think they are alluding to
cherishdeb His skin, his smile, his "brightness" as a young man. That's what they are referring to. His eyes adds to his handsomeness.
Yes they are!
Angelina 16 Yes! They are beautiful :)
You see through to his sweet soul. Im broody now
When his dad said i love you, that baby did everything not to cry
“It’s like I’m a younger You, now.”

Everybody in these comments are being very loud about modelling as if that’s his end game. There’s more he can and will do.
mickiellah thank you that was my thoughts exactly why if our children look good they always say modeling or basketball there so much opportunity’s out there like been doctors we get brain power too
Maybe he might want to model. No not every kid can be a model or basketball player but they don't have to be doctors or lawyers. People can be truck drivers, trashmen, waiters. We need all kind of people.
He can still model and live a full life outside of it...atleast it would pay for clothing lol
His side job sweetheart
He is handsome. Would you be upset if someone said you should model?
Apostrophe T 7th grade was good to me. I however did go to school in the upper echelons...
Apostrophe T 7th grade was fun as hell
6th grade was the worst
I like that this father can be both a father and a friend which I think every kid needs
Both Dad and Son are gorgeous!! His complexion is simply stunning! What a beautiful family and story!

As a gay man thinking about my future goals and the family I hope to one day create... I really needed to see this.
Hope you get glad adopt and experience being a parent! Xx
Get pregnant don't adopt
And you will do it my friend .
Devlin Kane seeing this wow I wanna parent in the future
I really dont see what being gay has to do with anything especially adoption or connecting with children/parents.... really. Its just an unnecessary detail.
‘I just love everything about you’. Words I dreamt that my father would have said to me growing up but never happened. Just proves fathers don’t have to be blood to truly be amazing. What an amazing family ❤️
His face is symetric as hell...damn!
I LOVE the question “What could we do about that?”
He’s such an empowering father. Melts my 💛
The way he expressed his love for his son was one of the beautiful things I’ve ever, EVER heard. I learned how to express my own feelings better. Wow, thank you
The beauty of unconditional love.
When I was 13 I couldn’t wait to be an adult graduate and travel, I am now 25 wishing I was 13 again not having a stress or bill in the world 😭
Wait 10-15 more years and you will start trying to relive and connect with your childhood again, in a positive and not a reckless way.
Real talk
1. Cyrus is GORGEOUS!! 2. I LOVE this father - son dynamic. Thank you for showing this love.
It's hard for me to fathom that dad's like this exists

Gay men are incredible fathers
Right?!
My dad is like this, I live with both parents
Wish my dad would take some fuckin’ notes lmao
This young man spirit is strong....i see it
fortified by the love of his father!
That is one gorgeous child! And he is so intelligent. Any parent would be proud to have him as a son. I wish him all the best.
Melanin popping! The glow is so natural.
Imagine what a kinder & gentler World we'd have if only more children had such a loving, interested, genuine, & respectful Father like Calvin...I have no doubt that Cyrus will grow up to a be a fine young Man his Father will be especially proud of...Bless this Family...This is such an encouraging & heartwarming story to share...Thank you kindly, "The Skin Deep"...
“Just say friends” haha
It's so cute how easily embarrassed they are at that age lol
Wow! I love the way he can so concisely express the way he feels and wants, especially for a young boy. You can definitely tell his dads provide a very open and comfortable environment. I love it 💖💖💖
His father sounds like an awesome dad!!
This makes my heart smile......so many positive feelings from this video. It has so many lessons that debunk perceptions about so many issues like gay men raising children, parenting, adoption, black men and their feelings, raising black teen boys in America....and the list goes on. One of the most powerful and positive imagery I've seen....I'm so touched by this♥️♥️
Thank you so so much for your comment!!
So handsome and that skin tone!!! Model status!!
“Your Boys”, “uh, you can say friends”, soooo cute!!😂😂
His son is loved, that's a huge blessing!!! Makes me want to adopt and love a child.
I think it's cute how he gets embarrased in a nice way by his dad ("don't say my boys, just say my firends")...it's cute
dmcarden lmao I know ☺️
Cutest and shy
He is very intelligent and there is so much more for him to do than model. I am not saying there is anything wrong with modeling.
Iris Bradley Thank you! He is more than a pretty face.
Agree
This is so sweet. You can really tell that the dad is a great parent based on how close they seem to be. And Cyrus seems like such a sweet and intelligent boy! It's unfortunate that there are so many kids in foster homes who have so much potential but are limited by their opportunities. This video makes me really consider adopting in the future if I ever plan to have kids.
the son is so intelligent and handsome and great dad too
He really does look like a model.
If thats u on the pic then you look like a model too..

“Im a younger you”, he looks up to his dad, he knows his dad is in a good place and is doing good things. I could feel he was saying this with a goal in his mind to become the image of the good person his father is 💕
Exactly. I can't imagine having that confidence to say such thing about my dad looking into his eyes. These two have something very special about them
Calvin raised Cyrus right. He is a good dad.
I love this. Especially knowing that Cyrus’s story could have gone the other way due to the foster system. this is a true blessing
Wow, Calvin the glow in your face when you explain why you love your boy. Deep genuine love right there. You raising such a mentally strong human being. Well-done Calvin for appreciating your day and good job dad for , unconditional love.
This is such a healthy father and son relationship. I'm try this with my boys I love this channel
Dang he could be a model.. Watch out Tyson Beckford... Your replacement is coming thru.. What a beautiful child... Bless his heart..

There's space for black models to coexist at the same time though. No need to replace whoever.

This really makes me want to adopt
don't it though
yeah im adopting for sure 1 asian kid, 1 white kid and 1 black kid
The Cyberninja why does race matter?
