Wonder has won the Grammy for “Album Of The Year” three times, and is tied with Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon, and Taylor Swift for this landmark achievement. It's sort of surreal to see that much talent in one room. I especially find it almost funny to watch these great singers doing the "oooh" backups when any of them could easily be the soloist.
It's so unlikely that this can ever be replicated because today's "artists" would be afraid to sing in a group without autotune exposing just how mediocre most of the today's so called singing artists really are. Today they are about making a spectacle of themselves on stage and on social media but they lack singing chops.
I have seen the documentary on the making of this video a few times and I never saw or have heard anything close to what you said you heard and or saw. Cindy lauper never said the thing's that you stated. Quincy told everyone involved to leave their egos at the door, and all did. Jane Fonda was the narrator of the official documentary on this song. Thanks.
Cyndi has later stated in an interview that she was not very excited about the songs execution: In her opinion ,the female singers were not given enough attention. All the female singers appear only at the beginning of the song, and the male singers at the end. And yes, she is right.
I have watched so many of the reactions to this song, and I always always always want someone to be amazed that Harry Belafonte is standing in the back row. Personally, I think he should be front and center all of the time.
You can go on-line and research all of the names and the point in the music where each sings. Easy way to identify each singer and those in the chorus.
[from Wikipedia] "Wonder won 25 Grammy Awards[52] (the most ever won by a solo artist), as well as a Lifetime Achievement Award. His albums of the "classic period", Innervisions (1973), Fulfillingness' First Finale (1974) and Songs in the Key of Life (1976), all won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, making him the tied-record holder for the most Album of the Year wins, with three. He is also the only artist to have won the award with three consecutive album releases. He has been inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, Rock and Rock Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.[125][126][127] He has also been awarded the Polar Music Prize.[128] Rolling Stone named him the ninth greatest singer and fifteenth greatest artist of all time.[129][130] In June 2009, he became the fourth artist to receive the Montreal Jazz Festival Spirit Award.[131] In 2003, Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list included Innervisions at number 23,[132] Songs in the Key of Life at number 56 (promoted to number 4 for the 2020 edition),[133] Talking Book at number 90 (promoted to number 59 for the 2020 edition),[134] and Music of My Mind at number 284.[135] In 2004, on their "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list, Rolling Stone included "Superstition" at number 74 (promoted to number 12 for the 2020 edition), "Living for the City" at number 104, "Higher Ground" at number 261 (promoted to number 113 for the 2020 edition), and "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" at number 281 (promoted to number 183 for the 2020 edition);[136] additionally, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" was included into the 2020 edition at number 203."
When This came out, I bought the single, but watching these legends together is still just beautiful! (If you want to see another collection of exceptional talent, watch The Blues Brothers. Everyone from Aretha Franklin to Cab Calloway to James Brown and Ray Charles is in that!)
Not to mention there's also almost all of Michael Jackson's family in the singers as well except for Janet Jackson one of the people that you didn't recognize near the end of the song with that beautiful voice and bellowed was James Ingram and the one you also messed with Tina Turner was Billy Joel he looks totally different with no hair now and a goatee and moustache and also Diana Ross the three that sang together was Huey Lewis Cyndi Lauper and Kim Carnes who had a big hit in the 1980s
The whole point of this song was to draw public attention to the cause, not the artists. Instead, the fans and the media turned it into a competition among their favorites. This is what turned off a lot of people, not because of the song, nor because of the artists themselves. There are some times when we have to keep our eyes on the prize, and that prize ain't vocal pyrothecnics.
Complete credits in Wikipedia. All-stars 🌟 The powers that be did not permit Madonna to sing: they thought she was not good enough. But she did sing at Live Aid. Source: interview with Nile Rodgers. He did not sing in USA for Africa but he performed with Madonna at Live Aid. Sammy Hagar wanted to sing there but was not invited. His Bay Area friends Huey Lewis, Steve Perry and Lindsey Buckingham did sing. David Foster conducted an all-star 🌟 supergroup from Canada 🇨🇦 while Bruce Allen took care of the business side. Bryan Adams, Corey Hart, Geddy Lee of Rush, the late Gordon Lightfoot, RIP, Joni Mitchell, Anne Murray, Mike Reno of Loverboy and Neil Young were some of the singers. This is a good prompt to react to Bruce Springsteen. I think you would really like his best stuff. I suggest reacting to "Jungleland", either studio or Live. Springsteen also performed "The Ghost of Tom Joad" with Tom Morello at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Also, you should react to Bob Dylan (he was there), transformed song-writing and created "Folk-Rock". Try Dylan's studio "Tangled Up In Blue" or live "Like A Rolling Stone". Also, Dylan did first "music video" (1965) called "Subterranean Homesick Blues", considered the first "Rap-song" ever!
Great video, how many do you still not know? Every time I see this I feel a serious nostalgia, realizing just how many of those amazing artists are no longer with us and I try to imagine the younger artists of today setting their egos aside and coming together in person like this.
My husband got to see Stevie Wonder in concert in the '70's. Not only is he a musical genius, but he danced on the stage, to within 8 inches of the edge of the stage! God-given talent.
You neeeeeeeed to do Hall & Oates "Sarah Smile"! They are the epitome of Blue Eyed Soul. You will loooove Hall & Oates. They have your feels dialed the f up. These boys do Soul the way ZZ Top do the Blues. I love your shit, man. Keep it up!
A phenomenal bastion of talent putting their efforts for a beautiful cause. This song brought sixties idealism into a reality, albeit briefly, in the eighties. I still have my 45RPM from April 1985.
A lot of great artists are not in the Hall of Fame that deserve it. Like every other honor out there it’s politics, not merit that drive the organizing bodies decisions.
I was watching something that said that when Prince didn't show up they asked Huey to do his part. He had to do that cold, no time to practice like every one else.
How could you not know Lionel Ritchie ??!! In my opinion he’s given way more to the culture and the industry than Ray has - he’s phenomenal - and a brilliant writer He’s in my top 5 artists off all time
@TheDivayenta I totally get it. What's worse is they can't i.d.them as.if they were one off pop artists.. when in reality most are rhe most legendary and talented voices of all time. I heard one kid asking how the scratchy voiced old man ever had a career.. Dylan. He didn't know about DYLAN!!! That literally hurts my heart lolol
I was waiting for you to mention Paul Simon of Simon & Garfunkel but I guess so you have forgotten him cause I know it's been a while since you've listened to Sound of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water 😅
Another reaction where you Don’t recognize the lyrical, genius, Bob Dylan I don’t know how people let that get past them, the greatest songwriter in the history of music.
The conductor, Quincy Jones, a fatherly friend of Michael, told everyone: Check your Egos at the door! Everyone followed, exept Michael and btw. Cindy Lauper. Love the song but I'm still pissed. Not so much about Cindy. She had only a half line.. But Michael is blown up more then Ray Charles. Don't mind, 40 years ago....
Yeah, they knocked this out in 5 hours at AnM Studios in Burbank. His Royal Purpleness was invited, but declined, no reason given. There's a documentary on UA-cam about it and it's really good.👍

You are right about Stevie Wonder! What an outrage! This is one of those people who could literally do an entire album by themselves if they wanted to take the time! (And I mean literally playing every instrument, singing all the vocals and tracking it obviously). The only others that come to mind are Prince and McCartney!
Thank you for your reaction! I have to comment, it's not that Cyndi Lauper didn't want to be there. I saw that little clip of the 'making of; you're talking about where MJ was getting a tad irritated about the pitch of the vocals, yes. But she was also wearing a lot of jewelry. She started taking off her earrings and necklaces, bracelets because it was interfering with the sound. It was funny! Watch the finished version, notice she's not wearing a lot of jewelry. And yes, after rehearsing they got the vocals just the way MJ wanted them. :)
You need to hear SUN CITY. It's about APARTHEID in South Africa back when it was still in place. Sun City was a resort snd s bunch of artists got together against playing that venue. It gave me chills. Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Bono from U2, Pat Benatar, Hall & Oates ( you MUST react to their music)... I've forgotten who else. Look up the history, the video used to give chills.
You didn't know Bob Dylan, one of the leads here. I recommend, Hurricane by Bob Dylan. Based on a true story. Story of boxer Rueben Carter. Also, the guy before Tina Turner, is James Ingram. I recommend, Somewhere out there. A duet with Linda Ronstadt. Link here, ua-cam.com/video/Smc5FHbZtG4/v-deo.html
Stevie has won the Grandaddy of all lifetime achievement awards from the Grammys, in 1996. Any other would be a downgrade. He's been to the mountain top. There is no promised land left to experience.
Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, and Cyndi Lauper standout the most to me. Have you not reacted to Kenny Loggins or Billy Joel yet? Not even Steve Perry or Journey? My gosh. You have no idea what you're missing

Stevie has won a few lifetime achievement awards! And what lifetime achievement award has Jennifer Lopez gotten?? Cuz I missed that. I know she got the MJ video vanguard.
Every time I see a reaction of this I put out the same challenge. React to one song for each solo artist in the video. No one has been able to do it. Yes, there have been subsequent generations (2010) who tried to revive the song to a more current crisis. But no one can produce the incredible reaction and raise the same $$$. This started in the UK by Bob Geldof and the super group BandAid singing Do They Know It’s Christmas in 1984. This one was great too. Then Harry Belafonte started to organize it here in the US in 1985. Not a generation before or a generation after could make such an impact culminating in the LIVE AID concert in July 1985. Truly a momentous act of selflessness from all walks of life. $250M raised by record sales and concerts in US and UK. Unfortunately only 5% actually made it to those starving. The rest was confiscated by rebels who bought weapons with it. So sad.
Cyndy Lauper kept having to take her jewelry off because they causing noise and screwing up the song. There was a sign outside saying to let their egos at the door. Why was Michael all glammed up then? It's special that all these famous singers came together to help others and watching the UA-cam making of this video you see that they were helping each other out too, to make the song. No egos.
This is how misinformation is spread! Cyndi Lauper never said she didn't like the song. There is a video up on UA-cam titled, Did Cyndi Lauper Hate We Are The World? Take a look at that video. It seems to me she was saying she wasn't completely on board with the name of the song, not that she didn't like the song. Whenever and wherever there is a cause to help someone, you can be sure this woman will be there! For people who think she didn't want to participate in this charitable effort, you don't know Cyndi!
The greatest song. Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel.Lionel and Micheal wrote wrote the song. Stevie song with Bruce, much more the 5 seconds. Sad you did not recognize the great talents. Never heard Cindi did not like the song. You only like Black artist. Sad all are great!!
I didn't care for it when it came out, but I was a rebellious teenager who was getting into Hard Rock and Metal. So, it felt too cheesy. As I've matured, I've come to appreciate it, but there are two aspects I still can't get behind. Steve Perry should have been given Bruce Springsteen's parts. And why the hell was Dan Akroyd there?
He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, and in 1999 he was awarded the Polar Music Prize for lifetime achievement by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music. That year he also became a Kennedy Center honoree. In 2005 Wonder received a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement.
Stevie received the Lifetime Achievement award in 1996. A lifetime of work had already been shared by then. He seems to have shared enough of his musical genius for two lifetimes.

And Smokey freakin Robinson - as synonymous with Motown success as Berry Gordy - is just in the choir.
Stevie Wonder has won several lifetime achievement awards. First one back in 1996. EDIT: And he deserved ever one of them.
Who ever that dude is on that hip hop podcast is misinformed. Stevie Wonder has a Grammy lifetime achievement award.
You can go on-line and research all of the names and the point in the music where each sings. Easy way to identify each singer and those in the chorus.
You are sooo right about which stratosphere Stevie Wonder is in compared to the others you mentioned. Different planet really!
Stevie won a Grammy lifetime achievement award 1996
So looking forward to seeing your reaction to this ❤
He won a Grammy lifetime achievement award back in 1996. Also Kennedy Center Honors in 1999.
Chills every single time I watch this!
He has been inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Music Hall of Fame, Rock and Rock Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame, and has received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.[125][126][127] He has also been awarded the Polar Music Prize.[128] Rolling Stone named him the ninth greatest singer and fifteenth greatest artist of all time.[129][130] In June 2009, he became the fourth artist to receive the Montreal Jazz Festival Spirit Award.[131]
In 2003, Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" list included Innervisions at number 23,[132] Songs in the Key of Life at number 56 (promoted to number 4 for the 2020 edition),[133] Talking Book at number 90 (promoted to number 59 for the 2020 edition),[134] and Music of My Mind at number 284.[135] In 2004, on their "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" list, Rolling Stone included "Superstition" at number 74 (promoted to number 12 for the 2020 edition), "Living for the City" at number 104, "Higher Ground" at number 261 (promoted to number 113 for the 2020 edition), and "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" at number 281 (promoted to number 183 for the 2020 edition);[136] additionally, "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)" was included into the 2020 edition at number 203."
I have never heard of anyone doing that.
Cyndi Lauper was NOT out of tune. Weird that they said she was.
She wasn't out of tune but all of her jewelry kept interfering with the sound so she had to remove it all.
Complete credits in Wikipedia. All-stars 🌟
The powers that be did not permit Madonna to sing: they thought she was not good enough.
Suggested video 📹: Northern Lights perform Tears Are Not Enough.
When a legend like Smokey Robinson accepts to "only" do chorus you know this matters.
Evidence of how powerful, beloved and successful a movement can be when it's all about mutual inclusivity.
Great video, how many do you still not know? Every time I see this I feel a serious nostalgia, realizing just how many of those amazing artists are no longer with us and I try to imagine the younger artists of today setting their egos aside and coming together in person like this.
I always love hearing Diana singing and then Dionne . Two of the greatest female singers ever.. even to this day
My husband got to see Stevie Wonder in concert in the '70's.
Awesome! Stevie Wonder is a national treasure in my opinion. FYI, he won a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996.
I was watching something that said that when Prince didn't show up they asked Huey to do his part. He had to do that cold, no time to practice like every one else.
How could you not know Lionel Ritchie ??!! In my opinion he’s given way more to the culture and the industry than Ray has - he’s phenomenal - and a brilliant writer
He’s in my top 5 artists off all time
Someone should make a video with all the names shown as they sing. Would help the reactors out!!!!❤
There's a list of who and when they sing. I just don't know how to share it on here
Being I'm 51.. I can literally name everyone of them. Lol
@@joshythehand2960 so can I - but I hate seeing them straining to ID the singers.
@@joshythehand2960 yup. That’s why it would help them to see the singers ID’d.
The amazing Stevie Wonder always takes me to church just like the incredible Ray Charles does💯💓
Stevie won the Grammy Life Time Achievement Award in 1996.

Your outraged for nothing ! He's been recognized with lifetime achievements from many countries! Legend!
YES!!! No one ever talks about that one but it’s a GREAT protest song!
Some of the artists might not have liked it or didn't have a good time but they did something good and this will always be Epic 🤷♀️❤
Quincy Jones did not compose it. It was composed by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie.
❤❤❤
I was 16 when this was released in 1985. It brought me to tears and still does😢.
You could do a great reaction series taking a hit from each of these artists.
I completely agree about Stevie Wonder. Love him
I think he was was awarded 8, not including the Icon Award and so many more
100% regarding Stevie. He is just so incredibly talented.
The song served it's purpose. So many records were sold to raise money to help the starvation in Africa.
Link here,

Stevie Wonder received a lifetime achievment award in the 90's. I don't know where you got the idea that he hadn't received one.
Michel Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote the song. Directed by Quincy Jones.
Hall&Oates, Dan ackroyd, Kenny Loggins, Latoya Jackson ,Stevie ,RAY CHARLES,Springsteen!
Stevie had hits in the 80s. One with Paul McCartney and one with MJ. I think he had one or two solo hits.
Steve Perry made a song for this charity event album. 😊
Dude, Diana Ross did this shit in a mink coat. You can see it in the choirs scenes!
Stevie Wonder Won a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996
Stevie Wonder won the lifetime achievement award in 1996
Check out the Stevie Wonder song "I just called to say I love you" that was #1 for 3 wks in Oct. 1984.
Stevie has won a few lifetime achievement awards! And what lifetime achievement award has Jennifer Lopez gotten?? Cuz I missed that. I know she got the MJ video vanguard.
MJ and Lionel Ritchie composed... Quincy Jones conducted.
So sad.
Odd... Because I think its that Cindi Lauper moment that lights it up into the finale.
No egos.
Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song
3:40, you're welcome!
Who cares what Cindi thought. Find the short where Michael can't stand her part. It's hilarious.
I’m pretty sure that today’s artists are incapable of putting their egos aside to raise money for the famine in Africa!! It’s a shame!
Bob Dylan was out of tune.
Always is
Bob Dylan and Ray Charles had to be there. They are Legends.Wheres Elton and Gladys Knight?
