At the time they had to use an outhouse up until around 1963 or 65. And of course plumbing was available back then,It's just they were too poor. Even in the snow and freezing cold, anyone that had to go to the bathroom had to go to the out house out back. Our family is white. But I'm sure the black folks it happened much more to them. Also, my mom lived in a house that only had one bedroom but my grandmother had six kids. It wasn't until my mom was around 18 that they got another house with more bedrooms. If you wanted a bath then you had to do the painstaking task of heating up the water on the stove and then filling it into the tub. Any water you want in the house you have to go out to the well and bring it in
